Book excerpt: When your actions to save millions from the Tyranny of the Corporations lead to everyone wanting to enact their own brand of revenge against you or those you protect, could you step up and continue to fight for what's right? The effects of the Nano Liberation continue to reverberate around the world, bringing down some of the mightiest Corporations and creating further repercussions and victims. Nano Technic has been put under government control, and the Corporations former paramilitary arm, including its agents and operators, have been handed over to the authorities, but they're not going down without a fight. A large group of them break free to pursue a misguided agenda against the government, and it's Frankie's job to hunt them down and stop them before they create an international disaster. Meanwhile, cyborg mercenary Hellion is back, and out for Frankie's blood. If that wasn't enough, the effects of the Nano Liberation are about to get a whole lot more personal for Frankie as her parents get caught up in the unfolding events. Frankie must hunt down these former corporate operative terrorists while avoiding Hellion's attentions and negotiating the mess that is her personal life, before something gets out of control and kills her or creates an international incident. Everyone is out for vengeance, and only Frankie stands in their way. Book The World of Prometheus

    Book Details:
  • Author : Danielle S. Allen
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2009-01-10
  • ISBN : 1400824656
  • Pages : 465 pages

Download or read book The World of Prometheus written by Danielle S. Allen and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-10 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Danielle Allen, punishment is more a window onto democratic Athens' fundamental values than simply a set of official practices. From imprisonment to stoning to refusal of burial, instances of punishment in ancient Athens fueled conversations among ordinary citizens and political and literary figures about the nature of justice. Re-creating in vivid detail the cultural context of this conversation, Allen shows that punishment gave the community an opportunity to establish a shining myth of harmony and cleanliness: that the city could be purified of anger and social struggle, and perfect order achieved. Each member of the city--including notably women and slaves--had a specific role to play in restoring equilibrium among punisher, punished, and society. The common view is that democratic legal processes moved away from the "emotional and personal" to the "rational and civic," but Allen shows that anger, honor, reciprocity, spectacle, and social memory constantly prevailed in Athenian law and politics. Allen draws upon oratory, tragedy, and philosophy to present the lively intellectual climate in which punishment was incurred, debated, and inflicted by Athenians. Broad in scope, this book is one of the first to offer both a full account of punishment in antiquity and an examination of the political stakes of democratic punishment. It will engage classicists, political theorists, legal historians, and anyone wishing to learn more about the relations between institutions and culture, normative ideas and daily events, punishment and democracy.

Book Black Prometheus

Download or read book Black Prometheus written by Jared Hickman and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Prometheus myth, for several reasons became a crucial site for conceptualizing human liberation in the immanent space of a finite globe structured by white domination and black slavery. The titan's defiant theft of fire from the regnant gods was translated through a high-stakes racial coding either as an 'African' revolt against the cosmic status quo that augured a pure autonomy, a black revolutionary immanence against which idealist philosophers like Hegel defined their projects and slaveholders defended their lives and positions. Or as a 'Caucasian' reflection of the divine power evidently working in favor of Euro-Christian civilization that transmuted the naked egoism of conquest into a righteous heteronomy-Euro-Christian civilization's mobilization by the Absolute or its internalization of a transcendent principle of universal Reason.
