Book The Modern School Superintendent

Download or read book The Modern School Superintendent written by Marvin Edwards and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An impossible job? That's what many have called the superintendency. With its growing and completing demands, it is a profession that can baffle even the most knowledgeable and well prepared. Public education resources have become more limited. There are new national and state testing requirements. Social issues are pulled into the schools and want more control over their operation. Add in politics and bureaucracy, and the end result is quite an unmanageable scenario. Unfortunately, more superintendents seem to be leaving the profession. Whether it is because of the demands superintendents face, the quality of preparation programs or a combination of both, the trend is a growing concern. Many superintendents are unprepared to deal with what they may encounter in running a school district. Yet the office is not all doom and gloom. Offering opportunities that are unavailable in many other careers, the superintendency is a position in which you will be taken seriously by others. And it is a profession in which one person, through skilled leadership, can make a difference by getting everyone to pull together and create a better environment for students. Surveys actually have shown that most superintendents would become superintendents again if they had the chance.

This book was released on 1930 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It is the purpose of this study to make a job analysis of the duties performed during a period of one year (1926- 1927) by a representative number of city superintendents of schools in the state of Texas. As a result of the analysis it is proposed to accomplish the following objectives: 1. To present data which may be used by superintendents as a basis for a comparison of their professional activities with those reported. 2. To furnish the basis for the establishment of courses specially designed for the training of city school superintendents. 3. To show the duties which are so infrequently and uncommonly performed as to indicate that their performance is not a standard part of the chief executive’s work. 4. To show the emphasis placed upon the importance and variety of those duties of the superintendent which have to do with his relationships as a community leader. 5. To determine the professional activities in which Texas superintendents are engaged, and to ascertain whether the duties most commonly performed are those which were considered of major administrative importance by a group of fifty judges who evaluated them. 6. To ascertain whether or not the size of the school enrollment is a major factor in determining the number and type of administrative duties performed by the city superintendents of Texas. 7. To ascertain whether or not the size of the weekly teaching load is a major factor in determining the number and type of administrative duties performed by the city superintendents of Texas"--Leaves xvii-xviii

This book reviews the long history of the urban superintendent's changing role, with special attention to the racial and ethnic politics of the cities since the 1970s. Book The City Superintendent and the Board of Education Classic Reprint

Download or read book The City Superintendent and the Board of Education Classic Reprint written by William Walter Theisen and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The City Superintendent and the Board of Education The problem of this study is to discover how lay boards of education provide for the administration of city school systems through professional chief executives. The study is concerned with an analysis of the practices of boards of education in cities of various sizes, together with an attempt to evaluate such practices. It is an attempt to discover what functions boards of education themselves perform, as a body or through their committees, what functions are delegated to executives, and how these functions are delegated. Questions which the study seeks to answer in part at least are: What are the duties that lay boards perform? What is the nature of matters receiving the attention of boards? What kind of data do they require as a basis for determining school policies? What functions are delegated to committees? What functions are delegated to executive officers? What is the form of administrative organization provided? To what extent do boards recognize professional leadership in administrative matters and in initiating school policies? Constructively the study seeks to discover the duties that are important for a lay board to perform as opposed to those that are trivial or that are professional and administrative. It seeks to discover those functions that should be delegated to the professional chief executive and his assistants and the scope of authority that should be given them. And, finally it seeks to discover how, with such functions delegated to professional executive officers, a lay board may exercise efficient control of the responsibilities imposed upon them by the state. 2. Criteria An effort will be made in this study to use objective measures as far as possible. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Child Law Policy and the School Superintendent

Download or read book Child Law Policy and the School Superintendent written by Richard D. Tomko and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2018-12-21 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook has been designed for a tool to be utilized by administrators currently in the field, those new and seasoned administrators who may be beginning their first year as a chief school administrator, Board of Education Trustees looking to examine the role of the school superintendent as chief school administrator, and those graduate students in educational leadership courses who are working within lectures to bridge the theory into practice as they prepare for leadership roles and standardized licensing exams that require a formidable knowledge of the world of the chief school administrator. As a proponent of having a strong knowledge base as it pertains to the broad scope of the core principals of child law and administrative policies in dealing with the day-to-day interactions of the “Office,” each chapter provides the reader with insight into an integral process pertinent to a topic paramount to the success of any leader who has elevated, or aspires as such, to the role of schools' chief in any district in the United States. As specific laws and protocols may be attenuated across borders, the basic concepts, theories, and obstacles remain the same. There is no one...or twenty books that can define and prepare a school administrator for every situation that he will face on any given day. However, there are specific areas of the job description that can be learned and used as a foundation for further investigation and inquiry into particular decisions and matters of interest. A true leader can never be too prepared for any mission, especially when she is charged with strengthening the future of the community and encouraging fortitude in her administrators, teachers, and students.
