Book The Prodigal System of Forgiveness and Reconciliation

Download or read book The Prodigal System of Forgiveness and Reconciliation written by J. Emmett Beam and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-04 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In today's world, relationships and lives are destroyed by conflict, greed, deception, betrayal, abandonment, abuse and other cruel acts of violence. Stories of Ponzi schemes, unethical financial dealings, infidelity, gang violence and terrorism are common place in the news. Such acts result in financial ruin, divorce, physical pain, emotional trauma and even death of loved ones. Our first instinct is to pay back evil for evil and take our own revenge. Yet is that the best course? This book explores and examines some tough questions, including: - Is it possible to recover from the loss, grief and trauma resulting from an injustice? - Will post-traumatic stress plague a victim of violence forever? - How can relationships be restored after betrayal or adultery? - Is it possible to forgive someone who has cruelly or violently injured us? - Can we actually "love our enemies" as instructed in the Bible? - Can we get forgiveness from God after committing violence, infidelity or murder? - Is there a key to personal healing, no matter what someone has experienced? The good news is there is a key to personal healing and a way to recover from the losses, grief and traumas of life. And it's called forgiveness. The Parable System of Forgiveness and Reconciliation provides a practical, proven method of forgiving anyone for any type of injustice. It also describes how to restore and reconcile broken relationships. This invaluable resource will help you do one of the hardest things you'll ever do for your own personal healing: forgive someone who has betrayed, abused, violated, or committed a violent offense against you or a loved one.

Book Forgiveness Reconciliation and Restoration

Download or read book Forgiveness Reconciliation and Restoration written by Martin William Mittelstadt and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2010-08-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although history is replete with tales of revenge, Christian forgiveness provides an alternate response. In this volume, Pentecostal scholars from various disciplines offer their vision for forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration. The essayists offer long-overdue Pentecostal perspectives through analysis of contemporary theological issues, personal testimony, and prophetic possibilities for restoration of individual relationships and communities. Though Pentecostals remain committed to Spirit-empowered witness as recorded in Luke-Acts, these scholars embrace a larger Lukan vision of Spirit-initiated inclusivity marked by reconciliation. The consistent refrain calls for forgiveness as an expression of God's love that does not demand justice but rather seeks to promote peace by bringing healing and reconciliation in relationships between people united by one Spirit.

Book Repentance and Forgiveness

Download or read book Repentance and Forgiveness written by Matthew E. Burdette and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconciliation is at the heart of the Christian faith. It is what God accomplishes by the incarnation of his Son, by Jesus’ cross, resurrection, and exaltation: that all people be drawn to God in Christ, and, in being so drawn, drawn into fellowship with one another. The good news of reconciliation is, therefore, also a call to repent and to receive forgiveness, and then, concomitantly, to forgive. The present volume endeavors to reexamine these most fundamental Christian claims. These essays, which were first presented at the 2017 annual Pro Ecclesia conference, return to the biblical sources to help us understand reconciliation afresh. The authors raise questions about repentance and forgiveness from various perspectives: Jewish, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant. They also consider our present-day context, what has been called the “technoculture,” as well as the practice of repentance and forgiveness. With contributions by: Stephen Westerholm Ellen T. Charry Dominic Langevin, O. P. Peter C. Bouteneff Brent Waters John P. Burgess

Book The Parable of the Prodigal Son

Download or read book The Parable of the Prodigal Son written by Mark Roberts-Seymour and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the parable "The Prodigal Son" attributed to Jesus by the Synoptic Gospel writer Luke - a father has two sons. The word prodigal means "wastefully extravagant"), becomes destitute and he dies and is reanimated. He makes his way home expecting his his father is likely to no longer recognize him. The father welcomes him back and celebrates his return. The older son refuses to participate. The father reminds the older son that he should still celebrate the return of the younger son because he was 'dead' and is now found.A portion of this parable deals with death and reconstitution, specifically the 32nd verse of Luke 15. The Vulgate translation of the highlighted text from the Koine Greek is: "quia frater tuus hic mortuus erat et revixit." This is best translated into modern English as "because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again". English substitutions might also render this as; deceased, departed or passed on. If the meaning was that the prodigal was lost, removed, detached, parted from or estranged - the appropriate Koine or Latin word would have been employed, rather than 'dead'. This distinction is paramount to the meaning of the parable as Christ intended it to be understood. Death is death - but victory over death is possible, and integration into the community [family] is also possible. As with the Elias-John the Baptist transmigration acknowledgement of Jesus - this parable deals on several levels with death, reanimation, recognition and reconciliation. It also chastises the hubris of the older son who clings to avarice and the Mosaic law at the expense of mercy.

Book The Prodigal s Wilderness When the wrong Path Really Is the Right Path

Download or read book The Prodigal s Wilderness When the wrong Path Really Is the Right Path written by Sue White and published by . This book was released on 2018-12-21 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PARABLE OF TRANSFORMATION: Much has been written regarding Luke Chapter 15 and there's been a great debate regarding which theme(s) should be considered and which one(s) ignored; however, this book will take a different approach by viewing it as a parable of transformation. The wilderness (or desert) is the place where transformations occur. As you read through the Bible, you'll see that God had many of the heroes of the faith participate in their own wilderness adventures, for example: Moses and the Israelites, David, Elijah, John the Baptist and even Jesus. They were all transformed by their desert experiences. The desert is God's preferred learning laboratory for believers. All believers will likely spend some time in the wilderness, in God's "boot camp." Some will enroll multiple times. But, the bottom line is this: God is still in control and he has a plan to conform you to his image (Rom. 12:2) so that he can have greater fellowship with you. God is sovereign even when you're in the midst of a wilderness experience and feeling scared, confused or overwhelmed. The wilderness may seem like it's the "wrong" path, that you've gotten lost or strayed from God, but he can redeem even the most crooked path and use all of your experiences along the way for good (Rom. 8:28).In the end, the "right" path ultimately brings you closer to God whereas the wrong path ultimately takes you further away from him. You can't really tell until you get to the end of the path. People in your life may be critical of your life choices, but in reality, they may not be seeing God's hand at work in your life, invisibly, behind the scenes. Consequently, you need to be true to yourself and trust God to bring you home, and he will!
