Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "God does not play dice with the universe." So said Albert Einstein in response to the first discoveries that launched quantum physics, as they suggested a random universe that seemed to violate the laws of common sense. This 20th-century scientific revolution completely shattered Newtonian laws, inciting a crisis of thought that challenged scientists to think differently about matter and subatomic particles. The Dreams That Stuff Is Made Of compiles the essential works from the scientists who sparked the paradigm shift that changed the face of physics forever, pushing our understanding of the universe on to an entirely new level of comprehension. Gathered in this anthology is the scholarship that shocked and befuddled the scientific world, including works by Niels Bohr, Max Planck, Werner Heisenberg, Max Born, Erwin Schrodinger, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Richard Feynman, as well as an introduction by today's most celebrated scientist, Stephen Hawking.

Book excerpt: Chrology was conducted in various and generalize domain to catch all universe and his presence in one law. Over eighteen years of quest, these researches open a huge door to Rotam to discover a single and absolute law that governs all presence and existence of Universe. Chrology is the science of all sciences, unification of all human knowledge and show the whole universe in its different faces of existence. Chrology explain everything that the entire system of the universe allows us to access, understand that escape our standard methods. Chrology opens up a new conception and new ideas to add to our knowledge to understand how the absolute mysteries, the immeasurable beauties and the complexities of the universe must present itself to our access with a unique law.

Book excerpt: This volume includes papers originally presented at the 8th annual Computational Neuroscience meeting (CNS'99) held in July of 1999 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The CNS meetings bring together computational neuroscientists representing many different fields and backgrounds as well as experimental preparations and theoretical approaches. The papers published here range across vast levels of scale from cellular mechanisms to cognitive brain studies. The subjects of the research include many different preparations from invertebrates to humans. In all cases the work described in this volume is focused on understanding how nervous systems compute. The research described includes subjects like neural coding and neuronal dendrites and reflects a trend towards forging links between cognitive research and neurobiology. Accordingly, this volume reflects the breadth and depth of current research in computational neuroscience taking place throughout the world.

Book excerpt: The present book has for its object the presentation of the lectures which I delivered as foreign lecturer at Columbia University in the spring of the present year under the title: "The Present System of Theoretical Physics." The points of view which influenced me in the selection and treatment of the material are given at the beginning of the first lecture. Essentially, they represent the extension of a theoretical physical scheme, the fundamental elements of which I developed in an address at Leyden entitled: "The Unity of the Physical Concept of the Universe." Therefore I regard it as advantageous to consider again some of the topics of that lecture. The presentation will not and cannot, of course, claim to cover exhaustively in all directions the principles of theoretical physics.-The Author, Berlin, 1909.From the TRANSLATOR'S PREFACE.At the request of the Adams Fund Advisory Committee, and with the consent of the author, the following translation of Professor Planck's Columbia Lectures was undertaken. It is hoped that the translation will be of service to many of those interested in the development of theoretical physics who, in spite of the inevitable loss, prefer a translated text in English to an original text in German. Since the time of the publication of the original text, some of the subjects treated, particularly that of heat radiation, have received much attention, with the result that some of the points of view taken at that time have undergone considerable modifications. The author considers it desirable, however, to have the translation conform to the original text, since the nature and extent of these modifications can best be appreciated by reference to the recent literature relating to the matters in question.-A. P. Wills.
