Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘The second coming of Jesus Christ is the core of the biblical worldview, the climax of the biblical message, the cornerstone of biblical theology, and the centrepiece of authentic biblical faith for the twenty-first century.’ At the heart of this bold opening statement by Stephen Motyer is the conviction that Jesus Christ is the ‘centre’ of the Scriptures, even though he only appears at the end. For the New Testament writers, Jesus Christ revolutionized their understanding of the Scriptures and gave them a new centre around which to interpret the work of God in the world – and the climax of that work is the ‘second coming’ of that same Jesus Christ. Jesus himself used the language of the Scriptures to promise his ‘coming again’, the ‘coming of the Son of Man’. Hence we need the whole of Scripture to understand what the second coming means for us today. The fact that the Bible ends with the prayer ‘Come, Lord Jesus!’ (Revelation 22:20) is deeply appropriate. The second coming is the ‘end’ of the biblical message, its ‘omega point’, its grand finale, the denouement when all the players in the drama of earth history, both human and angelic, are gathered in the drawing room to hear the Master unpack the plot and give the verdict. Motyer’s comprehensive, stimulating study is divided into two parts. Part One, ‘The biblical frame’, examines three Old Testament passages and lays the foundation for Part Two, ‘New Testament hopes and visions’, which explores a series of key texts. He focuses on the second coming, rather than on millennialism or the ‘end times’, in order to provide the fundamental biblical theology that must underlie our whole sense of God’s future for his world.

Book Three Views on the Millennium and Beyond

Download or read book Three Views on the Millennium and Beyond written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2010-08-10 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there biblical evidence for a thousand-year earthly kingdom (the Millennium) ruled by Christ before the fulfillment of the new heaven and new earth? Revelation chapter 20 seems to suggest so, but few books of the Bible are so difficult to interpret. And a discussion of the Millennium branches out into many other theological questions about the end times (eschatology): Are these the last days? What must happen before Jesus returns? What part does the church play? This Counterpoints volume compares three views of the Millennium: Premillennial: Christ will come again before this kingdom is established. Postmillennial: our present age represents that kingdom and that the church is and must move toward the fulfillment of this kingdom. Amillennial: a future Millennium is not a literal kingdom, and when Christ returns, he will usher in an immediate new heaven and new earth. Robert B. Strimple, Kenneth L. Gentry Jr., and Craig A. Blaising offer their perspectives, giving their exegetical reasoning. Each of them then responds to the views held by their peers in a respectful and informative setting, making it easy for you to compare their beliefs and gain a better understanding of how this aspect of Christianity's great hope--the return of Jesus--is understood by the church. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

Book Evidence from Scripture and History of the Second Coming of Christ

Download or read book Evidence from Scripture and History of the Second Coming of Christ written by William Miller and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2014-09-15 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In presenting these Lectures to the public, the writer is only complying with the solicitations of some of his friends, who have requested that his views on the Prophecies of Daniel and John might be made public. The reader is therefore requested to give the subject a careful and candid perusal, and compare every part with the standard of Divine Truth; for if the explanation the writer has given to the scriptures under consideration should prove correct, the reader will readily perceive that it concerns us all, and becomes doubly important to us, because we live on the eve of one of the most important events ever revealed to man by the wisdom of God--the judgment of the great day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am sending forth a new and enlarged edition of this volume, I have nothing to add or withdraw. I see nothing in the state of the Church or the world to make me alter the opinions on prophecy which I expressed tweleve years ago. I can only say, I am more and more convinced, as I grow older, that to keep our eyes steadily fixed on the second coming of Christ is one great secret of Christian Peace. If this volume helps any one reader to cultivate the habit of looking at Christ's coming again, as well as Christ crucified, and Christ interceding, I shall be satisfied -J.C Ryle

Book The Certainty of the Second Coming

Book excerpt: The Second Coming of Jesus is the capstone of Scripture. But how does it relate to other teachings of the Bible? In what way are doctrines that launched the Protestant Reformation foundational to the certainty of the Advent. Ed Zinke connects the dots to reveal not only a coherent system of truth we can trust, but a reliable God we can love. He shoiws that doctrine is not an end in itself, but a means of understanding the One who is coming for us. This is a full-message book. - Foreword, Introduction, Is Christianity Christian?, The Authority of the Bible and the Certainty of the Second Coming, Creation and the Certainty of the Second Coming, Of Relative Truths and Redemptive Symbols, The First Coming Prepares for the Second Coming, Salvation and the Certainty of the Second Coming, The Sanctuary and the Second Coming, Such a Cloud of Witnesses and the Second Coming, The Witness of the Remnant and the Second Coming, Should Our Nineteenth-Century Prophetic Schema Be Revised, The Certainty of the Second Coming, The Millennium, the Destruction of the Wicked, and the New Earth, God Reveals His Righteousness
