Book The Practice of Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

Download or read book The Practice of Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery written by D. Miller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few advances in cardiovascular medicine have so captured the inter est of physicians and the public alike as has coronary artery bypass surgery. Cardiologists who lived through the era of false hopes and frustrations of previous" operations" for coronary artery disease can fully appreciate what this major advance offers to their patients. The number of papers on this topic presented at national meetings attest to its popularity, but also make it increasingly difficult for anyone to assimilate all the data. Practitioners who must consider coronary artery bypass surgery for their patients may thus have difficulty in coming to some rational decision regarding the indications for the operation and its consequences. Depending on the "authority" that one reads, there is still some controversy as to which patients are candidates for coronary artery surgery. This monograph on the prac tice of coronary artery bypass surgery, therefore, comes as a welcome boon to cardiologists, surgeons, internists, and general practitioners who must consider referring their patients for such surgery. It presents a balanced and reasonable picture of the overall subject, in addition to containing important information on such topics as opera tive technique and economic impact. Dr. Miller has done an outstand ing job in bringing together in one text the important considerations related to the evaluation of patients, the natural history of coronary artery disease and the benefits and problems associated with bypass surgery.

Book Technical Aspects of Modern Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

Download or read book Technical Aspects of Modern Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery written by Mario Gaudino and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2020-11-08 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coronary surgery encompasses two thirds of all adult cardiac surgery cases. With the endless pursuit of better outcomes, modern coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) has become technically more complex in ways that are well beyond the training of the average cardiac surgeon. The old concept of "one-technique-fits-all" has been abandoned in favour of a specialized approach tailored to the individual patient. In fact, in recent years, there is a growing movement towards establishing coronary surgery as a super-specialization of cardiac surgery. Technical Aspects of Modern Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery aims to expand on both the basics and complexities of the technical aspects of coronary surgery. It serves as an up to date resource that illustrates and details the advancement and techniques in this field which may soon become a separate super-specialty. With a particular emphasis on illustrations, the book will be an essential reference book for both established surgeons that have no experience in advanced CABG, and the new generation of CABG surgeons. A complete and concise resource on all aspects of coronary surgery In-depth illustrative review of various coronary techniques Covers both current recommendations and well-established practices in the field

Book Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

Download or read book Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery written by Theo Kofidis and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 877 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Minimally invasive cardiac surgery(MICS) is an integral component of every future cardiac surgeon’s training. There continues to be a growing global demand towards less invasive surgical techniques. Both cardiologist and cardiac surgeon form "heart teams" to provide patients with novel, minimally invasive procedures, with all their benefits. Less invasive techniques are often complex and require special knowhow and skills. This book offers an innovative approach to learning, utilizing QR code technology, which refers the reader to essential audio-visual material, which, along with the didactic text, focuses on practical aspects of minimally invasive cardiac surgery. In modern Heart Teams, and with the advent of the hybrid era, surgeons will only be able to survive if they have state-of-the-art skills in less invasive technologies, which can be incorporated in the hybrid theatre and/or trans-catheter arena. This text accompanies the surgeon along this path, and provides clinical advice and practical solutions, beyond the necessary basic knowledge. Which courses to visit, which videos to watch, which centres to join for serious training? How best to exploit public and multimedia? How to consent a patient into a MICS procedure? How to set up a MICS program or practice? In the era of value driven outcomes, and a shift towards shorter and better patient journeys, MICS is a skill that no heart surgeon can be without. Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery: A Practical Guide is a teaching resource, reference book and manual written by surgeons who both operate and teach the procedures described within. Provides access to online resources via QR codes Includes links to videos and the e-version of the text Acts as a gateway to a huge choice of minimally invasive cardiac surgery materials

Book Return to Work After Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

Download or read book Return to Work After Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery written by P.J. Walter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I gave a presentation on return to work after heart valve replacement at the Tenth Congress of the German Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 1981, I was surprised by the relatively low level of interest that cardiac surgeons seemed to have in this subject. This stimulated me to intensify my research in this area and to extend it to patients with coron ary heart disease. Obviously, physiological and mechanical aspects of medical treatment are of special interest to the surgeon. For the majority of cardiac surgical patients, that is those with coronary heart disease, the technical problems of the operative procedure have been solved to a great extent. Many studies have demonstrated that, aside from reduction of symptoms, aortocoronary bypass operation can lead to improvement of cardiac performance un der stress conditions. However in spite of the technical solutions to hemodynamic problems, it has become very clear that the reintegration of patients into their social sphere has not been accomplished to the extent that might be expected, as exempli fied by the relatively low rate of postoperative return to work.
