Book Introduction to Modern Vehicle Design

Download or read book Introduction to Modern Vehicle Design written by Julian Happian-Smith and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-07-16 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introduction to Modern Vehicle Design provides a thorough introduction to the many aspects of passenger car design in one volume. Starting with basic principles, the author builds up analysis procedures for all major aspects of vehicle and component design. Subjects of current interest to the motor industry, such as failure prevention, designing with modern materials, ergonomics and control systems are covered in detail, and the author concludes with a discussion on the future trends in automobile design. With contributions from both academics lecturing in motor vehicle engineering and those working in the industry, "An Introduction to Modern Vehicle Design" provides students with an excellent overview and background in the design of vehicles before they move on to specialised areas. Filling the niche between the more descriptive low level books and books which focus on specific areas of the design process, this unique volume is essential for all students of automotive engineering. Only book to cover the broad range of topics for automobile design and analysis procedures Each topic written by an expert with many years experience of the automotive industry

Book The Motor Car

Download or read book The Motor Car written by Giancarlo Genta and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-01-06 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to automotive engineering, to give freshmen ideas about this technology. The text is subdivided in parts that cover all facets of the automobile, including legal and economic aspects related to industry and products, product configuration and fabrication processes, historic evolution and future developments. The first part describes how motor vehicles were invented and evolved into the present product in more than 100 years of development. The purpose is not only to supply an historical perspective, but also to introduce and discuss the many solutions that were applied (and could be applied again) to solve the same basic problems of vehicle engineering. This part also briefly describes the evolution of automotive technologies and market, including production and development processes. The second part deals with the description and function analysis of all car subsystems, such as: · vehicle body, · chassis, including wheels, suspensions, brakes and steering mechanisms, · diesel and gasoline engines, · electric motors, batteries, fuel cells, hybrid propulsion systems, · driveline, including manual and automatic gearboxes. This part addresses also many non-technical issues that influence vehicle design and production, such as social and economic impact of vehicles, market, regulations, particularly on pollution and safety. In spite of the difficulty in forecasting the paths that will be taken by automotive technology, the third part tries to open a window on the future. It is not meant to make predictions that are likely to be wrong, but to discuss the trends of automotive research and innovation and to see the possible paths that may be taken to solve the many problems that are at present open or we can expect for the future. The book is completed by two appendices about the contribution of computers in designing cars, particularly the car body and outlining fundamentals of vehicle mechanics, including aerodynamics, longitudinal (acceleration and braking) and transversal (path control) motion.

Book A Manual of Petrol Motors and Motor Cars

Download or read book A Manual of Petrol Motors and Motor Cars written by F. Strickland and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Petrol Motors and Motor Cars: Comprising the Designing, Construction, and Working of Petrol Motors IN view of the constantly increasing use of motor cars, it is un necessary to make any apology for the following work, which deals with the design of petrol motors from a practical and commercial as well as a theoretical standpoint. The data on which it is based are the result of long study and practical work, and the principles of construction of the motor car and of modern high-speed internal combustion engines are thoroughly investigated. The calculations necessary for determining the sizes of the various parts of a car at a given stress, and for calculating the stresses on actual cars and comparing them with those in other machines are also given without unnecessary complications and in such a form as may easily be understood. Book Modern Motor Car Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book Modern Motor Car Practice Classic Reprint written by William Hibbert Berry and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-03 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Motor Car Practice One approaches the writing of a preface of this nature with very mixed feelings. Since this work was first mooted, two years ago, many changes have taken place, and I am afraid that it has not been possible strictly to follow the lines originally laid down for the treatment of the book. During the War, of course, vast forward steps were made in scientific and technical matters. Actually, however, the motor industry and motor designs were in 1918 substantially as in 1914, because such matters as progress and economy were subordinate during the War period to steady and continued output and mechanical trustworthiness. At the same time we were justified in believing that the first year of peace would see almost revolutionary changes in design.
