Book excerpt: The purpose of the workshop described in this document was to consider the possible environmental impacts of petroleum exploration activities in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence and Sydney Bight ecosystems. There were presentations and discussions of information regarding the geology, physical oceanography, zooplankton, chemistry, marine plants, the nearshore environment, marine mammals, marine fish, invertebrates, and diadromous fish in the 2 areas of interest. In addition there were presentations and discussions of generic information on the potential impacts of seismic surveys, exploration drilling and other activities related to offshore oil and gas exploration.
