Download or read book Too Busy to Die written by Carl Reiner and published by . This book was released on 2017-03-20 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Carl made his first stage appearance at the age of six in "Six Who Pass While the Lentils Boil" at P.S. 92 in the Bronx, his mother Bessie told him " You were the best one." "Too Busy to Die" starts with that first reminiscence, then follows Carl's earliest forays into show business, in all of which Bessie continued to tell him that "You were the best one." Carl tells of how his career might have ended with that first performance at P.S. 92, had it not been for Franklin D. Roosevelt and Carl's brother Charlie, who showed him the newspaper ad announcing that the WPA was sponsoring free acting classes for aspiring actors. Carl takes us behind the scenes when he performed in summer stock and a touring Shakespeare repertory company. His career involved working with eccentric, sometimes outlandish, always colorful people and situations, and all this, while supporting his growing family. As Carl honed his dramatic skills he discovered, oft times through desperation or necessity, that his comedic skills could save the day, by merging both at every opportunity to great success.

Book Getting to Wow Silicon Valley Pitch Secrets for Entrepreneurs

Download or read book Getting to Wow Silicon Valley Pitch Secrets for Entrepreneurs written by Angelika Blendstrup and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-25 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Getting to Wow!" is the entrepreneur's practical guide to crafting a clear, compelling, credible pitch. Written by two Silicon Valley experts with many years of experience as entrepreneurs and investors, the big idea behind the book is that every time entrepreneurs talk or write about their startups they are pitching. Pitching is not limited to the formal slide deck presentation that most entrepreneurs concentrate on. The authors also point out that much of the advice entrepreneurs get about pitching is just plain wrong. (For example, contrary to the common wisdom, a pitch is not a presentation.) Throughout the book, they correct the "common wisdom" and offer the clear, unvarnished truth. The book's foreword, "Life's a Pitch!" is by Guy Kawasaki, former Apple Evangelist, co-founder of Garage Technology Ventures, and now Chief Evangelist at Canva. Guy makes the point that all of us are pitching, one way or another, every day. While the primary focus of the book is on developing your investor pitch, many of the principles of "Getting to Wow" apply to your sales pitch and to all of your marketing communications. Please note: The paperback version of the book is printed in black and white. If you want the full color experience, with the ability to zoom in on the nearly 100 slide examples that are provided, you might want to also download the ebook (Kindle version), which you can read using the Kindle app on your computer, your tablet, your phone, or your Kindle Fire. The book starts with an overview of "The Mind of the Investor," covers techniques for distilling your story into a very short, compelling "Wow statement," discusses the crafting of your slide deck in detail, offers advice on "Pitching with Impact," and ends with a detailed discussion of "The Inquisition," the question and answer part of your investor meeting. Finally, the appendix provides a treasure chest full of additional resources for entrepreneurs eager to accelerate their success. The book covers all the dimensions of pitching and is useful for everyone who is trying to promote their company.

Book The Happy Film Pitchbook

Download or read book The Happy Film Pitchbook written by Stefan Sagmeister and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An artist's attempts at achieving personal happiness, from meditation to pharmaceuticals Austrian-born, New York-based graphic designer, typographer and artist Stefan Sagmeister (born 1962) often tests and transgresses the boundary between art and design, through his imaginative implementation of typography. The Happy Film Pitch Book both documents Sagmeister's touring exhibition, The Happy Show, and anticipates his ongoing feature length film, The Happy Film. In both projects, Sagmeister undergoes a series of self-experiments (each experiment lasting three months)--with meditation, cognitive therapy, and mood-altering pharmaceuticals--attempting to improve his personal happiness. I am usually rather bored with definitions," Sagmeister says. "Happiness, however, is just such a big subject that it might be worth a try to pin it down." The Happy Show, Sagmeister's first museum show in the United States, documents his adventures in video, print, infographics, sculpture and interactive installations, most of which were custom-made for this exhibition. Here, Sagmeister offers his own witty and poignant thoughts and reasons for his ten-year exploration of happiness. Throughout the book, Sagmeister's trademark maxims serve as access points to a larger exploration of happiness, its cultural significance, our constant pursuit of it and its notoriously ephemeral nature.

Book On Startups Advice and Insights for Entrepreneurs

Download or read book On Startups Advice and Insights for Entrepreneurs written by Dharmesh Shah and published by Hyperink Inc. This book was released on 2012-12-09 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Note from the Author Hi, my name is Dharmesh, and I’m a startup addict. And, chances are, if you’re reading this, you have at least a mild obsession as well. This book is based on content from the OnStartups.com blog. The story behind how the blog got started is sort of interesting—but before I tell you that story, it’ll help to understand my earlier story. As a professional programmer, I used to work in a reasonably fun job doing what I liked to do (write code). Eventually, I got a little frustrated with it all, so at the ripe old age of 24, I started my first software company. It did pretty well. It was on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing companies three times. It reached millions of dollars of sales and was ultimately acquired. I ran that first company for over 10 years working the typical startup hours. When I sold that company, I went back to school to get a master’s degree at MIT. I’ve always enjoyed academics, and I figured this would be a nice “soft landing” and give me some time to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. As part of my degree requirements, I had to write a graduate thesis. I titled my thesis “On Startups: Patterns and Practices of Contemporary Software Entrepreneurs.” And, as part of that thesis work, I wanted to get some feedback from some entrepreneurs. So, I figured I’d start a blog. I took the first two words of the thesis title, “On Startups,” discovered that the domain name OnStartups.com was available, and was then off to the races. The blog was launched on November 5, 2005. Since then, the blog and associated community have grown quite large. Across Facebook, LinkedIn, and email subscribers, there are over 300,000 people in the OnStartups.com audience. This book is a collection of some of the best articles from over 7 years of OnStartups.com. The articles have been topically organized and edited. I hope you enjoy them.
