No doubt we have been taught that our lives are on a linear path, but like our innate drive to search for an entity greater than ourselves, we are given the desire to search out the main reason we are here. We are given the desire to search for the reason we exist and for who we are. We study our environment and other organisms. We can normally make some connections on their purpose. Think about our sun, which is a relatively small star. We know that the sun gives off several different types of light, but what is its purpose? Is it just to give off light so that green plants containing chlorophyll""responsible for the absorption of light to provide energy in the presence of water and carbon dioxide""produce glucose through the process called photosynthesis? Does my career indicate who I am? Of course not! We know that there are many different careers""authors, comedians, actors, doctors, lawyers, astronauts, singers, preachers, teachers, construction workers. We are destined to fulfill a certain purpose while here on earth. So what is your purpose? If by happenstance I can focus your attention on why you are here, then over half of the battle is already won. Then you must scribe to understand your purpose. Start by asking yourself, "Who am I? Why am I here? What is my destiny?" It is my desire to prepare methods for believers to use in preparation for their Christian life and relationship with Christ by providing guidelines for prayer and communion with God. "That you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness" (Ephesians 4:22 "" 24).

Lives in Transition examines individual experiences within such collective histories during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This collection brings together sources from Europe, North America, and Australia in order to advance the field of quantitative longitudinal historical research. The essays examine the lives and movements of various populations over time that were important for Europe and its overseas settlements - including the experience of convicts transported to Australia and Scots who moved freely to New Zealand. Any object that enters in our field of perception is an objective reality that has weight, density; it is also inert or alive. When we make this question, we realize that it has meaning because science has taught us is that total reality is not the one we perceive at first glance. It suffices to look below its external surface to discover a hidden reality not observable at first glance. One question normally opens the door to other questions. If this is true, one can ask, “Why is it important for me to become aware of those levels of reality if the immediate one is sufficient for my daily performance? How does this question help to clarify why we are designed the way we are?” The latter question immerses us immediately in the field of meaning; the why of things and events. This is another level of personal reality that we must investigate if we want to obtain the full picture of what we claim is real. This is the intention of this essay, to explore the different levels of objective and subjective reality in order to obtain a holistic perspective of ourselves and the world we live in, so that we can accept its diverse levels of reality at the same time that we give it the respect it deserves so that all of us can share and live on Earth, our one country.

What began as a few scattered institutions in the mid-eighteenth century grew to 579 public and private asylums by the 1940s. About one out of every 280 Americans was an inmate in an asylum at an annual cost to taxpayers of approximately $200 million. Using the writing of former asylum inmates, as well as other sources, Writing Mad Lives in the Age of the Asylum reveals a history of madness and the asylum that has remained hidden by a focus on doctors, diagnoses, and other interventions into mad people's lives. Although those details are present in this story, its focus is the hundreds of inmates who spoke out or published pamphlets, memorials, memoirs, and articles about their experiences. They recalled physical beatings and prolonged restraint and isolation. They described what it felt like to be gawked at like animals by visitors and the hardships they faced re-entering the community. Many inmates argued that asylums were more akin to prisons than medical facilities and testified before state legislatures and the US Congress, lobbying for reforms to what became popularly known as "lunacy laws." Michael Rembis demonstrates how their stories influenced popular, legal, and medical conceptualizations of madness and the asylum at a time when most Americans seemed to be groping toward a more modern understanding of the many different forms of "insanity." The result is a clearer sense of the role of mad people and their allies in shaping one of the largest state expenditures in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries--and, at the same time, a recovery of the social and political agency of these vibrant and dynamic "mad writers."
