Book Access Management Manual

Download or read book Access Management Manual written by Kristine Williams and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Since the publication of the first edition of the Access Management Manual, the context for transportation planning and roadway design in the United States has been transformed. Transportation agencies and local governments are under growing pressure to integrate land use and transportation policy and achieve a more sustainable, energy-efficient transportation system. This second edition of the manual responds to these developments by addressing access management comprehensively, as a critical part of network and land use planning. The content is interdisciplinary, with guidance pertinent to various levels of government as well as to pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorized vehicles, including trucks and buses, and is strongly grounded in decades of research, engineering science, and professional experience. Greater emphasis is placed on appropriate location of access, and guidance is refined to provide appropriate consideration of context and community issues. Substantial updates aid state and local agencies in managing access to corridor development effectively. Specific guidance on network and circulation planning and modal considerations is included, as well as guidance on effective site access and circulation design. A chapter on corridor management reinforces these concepts with a framework for application of access management in different contexts, along with appropriate strategies for each context. There are also new chapters on network planning, regional access management policies and programs, interchange area access management, auxiliary lane warrants and design, and right-of-way and access control. The manual concludes with an extensive menu of access management techniques and information on their application"--Provided by publisher.

Book The Solar Corridor Crop System

Download or read book The Solar Corridor Crop System written by C. LeRoy Deichman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-06-12 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Solar Corridor Crop System: Implementation and Impacts presents a case-study format on the planning and implementation of alternative cropping systems designed to maximize incident sunlight and bio-support of all crops in a rotation system. The book describes the basic component of the system, an increased access point of incident sunlight between each row or pairs of rows that enables a more uniform vertical distribution of incident sunlight to chloroplasts within the entire corn leaf canopy. While the production environment and environment specific genetics determine the performance potential of this principle, by maximizing the principles that light is basic to crop yield, a solar corridor ultimately contributes to increased grain yield. Written by experts who were integral in the development of solar corridor systems, and providing real-world examples of the methods, challenges and future prospects, this book will be valuable for those seeking to increase yield-per-acre through both primary and cover-crops. - Introduces readers to the concept of alternative row-cropping and its implementation - Presents real-world experience, including challenges and solutions - Encourages research in maximizing photosynthesis impact on crop yield

This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis provides a theoretical literature review of a number of approaches to, categories of and different perspectives on environmental rights in general. As part of this review a number of generic elements is identified for the fulfilment of constitutional environmental provisions, generally. The literature review attends also to the notions of local environmental governance and 'local politics of pollution', amongst other concepts related to local government.Secondly, this thesis critically considersthe Constitution or Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany, 1949 (Grundgesetz) and relevant developments in Germany with reference to the European context and a local government case study on the municipality of Heidelberg. It considers also the Constitution of Namibia of 1990 and relevant developments in Namibia with reference to the African and Southern African contexts and a case study on the Walvis Bay municipality. The South African position is subsequently analysed, first with a focus on section 24 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, environmental law and related developments, then shifting the focus to the constitutional provisions on local government, local government law, related developments and the case of the Drakenstein Local Municipality.Thirdly, based on the lessons learned from and lacunae identified in all three of the countriesconsidered, this study concludes with a set of recommendations for the South African context.
