Download or read book French Women in Politics Writing Power written by Raylene L. Ramsay and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2003 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although more women in France have entered political life than ever before, the fact remains that there are fewer women representatives in the French parliament than there were after the Second World War. In a new and original approach, the author presents an overview and analysis of the emerging body of text by or on women who have held high political office in France. The argument is that writing about women and politics has not just described or reflected women's slow but now substantial entry into political life; it has played a major part in shaping the parity debate and its outcomes. Interviews with political women, such as Huguette Bouchardeau, Simone Veil or Edith Cresson, inserted in the text, demonstrate the emergence and circulation of a new common discourse focused on the issue of whether women in politics make or should make a difference. A close reading of the various texts examined in this book and their connection to new public counter-discourses in France suggest that a re-writing of power is indeed occurring.

This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Paternal State in France and Germany IT is almost an impertinence nowadays to remind a reader of past events; we travel so fast through life that Old scenes, if remembered at all, are remembered only as it were by their picturesque features, by their peculiarly Odd or extraordinary forms. Our allotted time is brief, and the past, with its cumbersome civiliza tion, is ever receding from our View. Nevertheless, we all know that nothing' happens by accident in human evolution; that there is a cause behind every phenoms non, be it a physical, a political, or a social one and we know that there is a law connecting the cause with the effect recorded in past annals. It has always struck me that the relations existing be tween some of the most important phenomena of French and German history, and their real, permanent causes, have never been sufficiently examined. If we all know, for instance, why the French nation overthrew its old absolute monarchy in 17 93, we seldom ask ourselves why a still more absolute and despotic republic, and, later on, an absolute and despotic empire, were substituted for it. Again, we all know that the modern French and German people, borrowing parliamentary forms from England. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book Mark Twain s Literary Resources written by Alan Gribben and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2024-10-15 with total page 1124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Alan Gribben, a foremost Twain scholar, made waves in 1980 with the publication of Mark Twain's Library, a study that exposed for the first time the breadth of Twain's reading and influences. Prior to Gribben's work, much of Twain's reading history was assumed lost, but through dogged searching Gribben was able to source much of Twain's library. Mark Twain's Literary Resources is a much-expanded examination of Twain's library and readings. Volume I included Gribben's reflections on the work involved in cataloging Twain's reading and analysis of Twain's influences and opinions. This volume, long awaited, is an in-depth and comprehensive accounting of Twain's literary history. Each work read or owned by Twain is listed, along with information pertaining to editions, locations, and more. Gribben also includes scholarly annotations that explain the significance of many works, making this volume of Mark Twain's Literary Resources one of the most important additions to our understanding of America's greatest author.

Download or read book Parallelism in Revolution written by Matthew C. Wells Ph.D. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005-10-14 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Read the book which predicted the rise of the radical Islamic right in Iran. Originally released in August 1999 under the title Democratic Transitions and the Weber/Freud Connection, the book noted that the government in Iran was in jeopardy of being usurped by radical right-wing forces. The predictions contained in this work were based on Dr. Matthew C. Wells theory of Political Parallelism. In light of recent political events (i.e., the triumph of the Abadgaran faction in 2004 parliamentary elections and the recent election of Iranian neo-con Mahmud Ahmadinejad to the presidency), this book has become all the more timely.
