Book High Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers

Download or read book High Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers written by A.L. Kovarskii and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-02-03 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers is devoted to covering all areas of high-pressure polymer materials science. Topics addressed include the synthesis of polymers, changes in reactivity, structural transformations, molecular dynamics, relaxation processes, deformational properties, chemical modification, and the effect of shock waves and shear stresses. The authors' contributions reflect over 60 years of Soviet study in the field of physico-chemistry conducted at the major former Soviet Institutes of Chemical Physics, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. Fundamental topics such as compressibility of polymers, polymerization under pressure, viscoelastic/deformational properties, and polymer modification are discussed with an eye toward materials development for improving physical models and methods of calculating the changing parameters of materials under pressure. The book is a valuable reference to data on mechanisms of physical and chemical processes, in addition to new experimental data for improving physical models and methods of calculating changes in material characteristics under compression loads. High-Pressure Chemistry and Physics of Polymers will be an important reference for graduate students and practicing professionals in polymer chemistry and polymeric materials.

Book Handbook of Industrial Polyethylene and Technology

Download or read book Handbook of Industrial Polyethylene and Technology written by Mark A. Spalding and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 1671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides an exhaustive description of polyethylene. The 50+ chapters are written by some of the most experienced and prominent authors in the field, providing a truly unique view of polyethylene. The book starts with a historical discussion on how low density polyethylene was discovered and how it provided unique opportunities in the early days. New catalysts are presented and show how they created an expansion in available products including linear low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, copolymers, and polyethylene produced from metallocene catalysts. With these different catalysts systems a wide range of structures are possible with an equally wide range of physical properties. Numerous types of additives are presented that include additives for the protection of the resin from the environment and processing, fillers, processing aids, anti-fogging agents, pigments, and flame retardants. Common processing methods including extrusion, blown film, cast film, injection molding, and thermoforming are presented along with some of the more specialized processing techniques such as rotational molding, fiber processing, pipe extrusion, reactive extrusion, wire and cable, and foaming processes. The business of polyethylene including markets, world capacity, and future prospects are detailed. This handbook provides the most current and complete technology assessments and business practices for polyethylene resins.

Book The Effects of Oxygen on the Polymerization of Ethylene in the Presence of Supported Chromium Oxide Catalysis

Download or read book The Effects of Oxygen on the Polymerization of Ethylene in the Presence of Supported Chromium Oxide Catalysis written by John W. Eldridge and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The polymerization of ethylene over a supported chromium oxide catalyst was studied first in the complete absence of oxygen and then with controlled amounts of oxygen (60 to 600 micro mole/g catalyst) present. The catalyst was prepared by impregnating a microspheroidal silica-alumina (87 - 13 wt. %) with a dilute solution of chromic acid. This raw compound was then activated by heating it in vacuo at 550C. The data indicated that the inhibitory effect of oxygen involved the chemisorption of some oxygen containing species which could in time be displaced by an excess of ethylene. A comparison of the molecular weight distributions of the products with the rates of polymerization at shutdown suggested that higher rates of reaction cause local heating within the reactor, thereby increasing local rates of chain transfer and broadening the distribution.
