Book The Chemistry of Chlorine Bromine Iodine and Astatine

Download or read book The Chemistry of Chlorine Bromine Iodine and Astatine written by A. J. Downs and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-05-04 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine and Astatine is a special edition that contains selected sections and addresses the needs of specialists in their respective fields. The text describes the general atomic properties of non-metals, particularly the halogens, as being the perfect series to study, both in physical and chemical terms. The book explains that the combination of the atomic properties implies excellent electronegativity values for the halogen atoms. The text also cites some behavior characteristics of halogens that are irregular, such as chlorine and bromine are similar but differ from fluorine on one side and iodine on the other. The book also compares the general methods of producing chlorine, bromine, or iodine by 1) oxidation of halide derivatives or 2) reduction of compounds of the halogens in positive oxidation states. The text then reviews the application of a complex valence theory that raises difficult questions about the bonding in halogen-oxygen molecules. The book also explains the biological behavior of astatine that accumulates in the liver or in the thyroid gland depending on the method of administration either as a radiocolloid or as a true solution. The book is suitable for molecular biologists and researchers, molecular chemists, and medical researchers.

Book Chemistry of the Main Group Elements

Download or read book Chemistry of the Main Group Elements written by Andrew Barron and published by Midas Green Innovations. This book was released on 2020-03-28 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main group elements represent the most prevalent elements in the Earth's crust, as well as most of the key elements of life, and have enormous industrial, economic, and environmental importance. In this regard an understanding of the chemistry of the main group elements is vital for students within science, engineering, and medicine; however, it is hoped that those who make political and economic decisions would make better ones (or at least more responsible ones) if they had a fraction of the knowledge of the world around them.

Book Sulfur Dioxide Chlorine Fluorine and Chlorine Oxides

Download or read book Sulfur Dioxide Chlorine Fluorine and Chlorine Oxides written by Colin L. Young and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-09-03 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solubility Data Series, Volume 12: Sulfur Dioxide, Chlorine, Fluorine and Chlorine Oxides presents the solubility data of the title compounds in pure liquids, liquid mixtures, aqueous solutions, and miscellaneous fluids and fluid mixtures. This volume is composed of five chapters and begins with definition of pertinent terms related to gas solubility. The first three chapters provide the critical evaluation of the solubility of sulfur dioxide, chlorine, and fluorine in inorganic and organic substrates. The last two chapters present the solubility values of chlorine monoxide and dioxide. This book will be of value to students and researchers.

Book excerpt: Chlorine is one of the most important inorganic basic chemicals It is not only an essential reaction component for the synthesis of numerous organic and inorganic chemicals and plastics, it is also of great importance for the production of pharmaceuticals, disinfectants, bleaches and insecticides. Everything you need to know about chlorine is described in this book. It provides a practical and up-to-date account of the scientific and technological basics for the production of chlorine and describes various applications and prospects for future developments. Current issues, such as environmental protection, occupational health and safety aspects, storage and transportation, economic aspects, quality specifications and analysis are treated in a competent and well-balanced manner. Chemists, chemical engineers and chemical process engineers in various industrial sectors, engineering companies, universities and government authorities will certainly profit from this comprehensive review.

Book The Geochemistry of Stable Chlorine and Bromine Isotopes

Download or read book The Geochemistry of Stable Chlorine and Bromine Isotopes written by Hans Eggenkamp and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-25 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides detailed information on the history, analysis and applications of chlorine and bromine isotope geochemistry. Chlorine and bromine are geochemically unique as they prefer to exist as single charged negative ions. For this reason isotope fractionation reflects mostly processes that are not related to changes in the redox state and this fractionation is generally modest. The book will describe the processes that are most easily detected using these isotopes. Also isotope variations, and processes that cause them, measured in oxidised species such as perchlorates and in organic molecules will be described in this book.

Book Chlorine Dioxide gas

Download or read book Chlorine Dioxide gas written by Stuart Dobson and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) exists as a greenish yellow to orange gas at room temperature. It is used in the paper and pulp bleaching industries as a sterilizing agent, in hospitals as a biocide in water treatment, and as an improving agent in flour. This document focuses on exposures via routes relevant to occupational settings principally related to the production of chlorine dioxide, but also contains environmental information. The health effects and environmental fate and effects of chlorine dioxide used in the treatment of drinking-water, together with those of halogenated organics produced by the interaction between the disinfectant and other materials present in the water are covered in a recent Environmental Health Criteria publication (EHC No. 216 2000) and are not dealt with in detail here. Chlorine dioxide is an irritant and it seems likely that health effects would be restricted to local responses. The few ecotoxicity data available show that chlorine dioxide can be highly toxic to aquatic organisms.
