Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I was asked to edit All the King's Orphans, I was honored, as I always am to do this work. Little did I know so much of the book would apply to me! Along the way, I started reading for what I could glean from the expansive knowledge contained in these pages. It explained so much about myself and why I do some of the things I do. This is one of those books whose pages will be underlined, highlighted, dog-eared, and coffee stained. If you do not find yourself in these pages, then you will learn how to love others who operate from an orphan frame of mind. So thankful for this book and Lynette's courage to write it. Sheila Harper, author of Survivor: A Journey Through Abortion and Back; founder and president of SaveOne *** Why am I different? Where do I belong? How did I get in this situation? What is my purpose? Who am I? These are the questions that plague many followers of Jesus. Though adopted into His kingdom, millions still carry the spirit of an orphanunwilling or unable to see themselves as true sons and daughters of the King of Kings. The orphan spirit manifests itself in various ways, but our Abba invites us to live free of care in the security of knowing who we are in Him.

This set of devotional readings springs from profound reflection over many years, but the tone is inspirational and popular. He writes: 'John is my favourite Gospel. In John's Gospel, Jesus is the Son who reveals the Father. He is presented to us as the one who came to show us what the Father is truly like. He says of himself that he is the only Way to the Father and the one who discloses the truth about the Father heart of God. Every verse of John's Gospel reveals the Father. 'Together we consider 366 texts and look at how they reveal the Father who has adopted us, embraced us in his family, and promised never to abandon us. The purpose of every daily study is to turn what we learn into the language of adoration.'

Book Tractates Gittin and Nazir

    Book Details:

  • Publisher : Walter de Gruyter
  • Release : 2012-02-13
  • ISBN : 3110898896
  • Pages : 785 pages

Download or read book Tractates Gittin and Nazir written by Heinrich W. Guggenheimer and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-02-13 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ninth volume of this edition, translation, and commentary of the Jerusalem Talmud contains two Tractates. The first Tractate, “Documents”, treats divorce law and principles of agency when written documents are required. Collateral topics are the rules for documents of manumission, those for sealed documents whose contents may be hidden from witnesses, the rules by which the divorced wife can collect the moneys due her, the requirement that both divorcer and divorcee be of sound mind, and the rules of conditional divorce. The second Tractate, “Nazirites”, describes the Nasirean vow and is the main rabbinic source about the impurity of the dead. As in all volumes of this edition, a (Sephardic rabbinic) vocalized text is presented, with parallel texts used as source of variant readings. A new translation is accompanied by an extensive commentary explaining the rabbinic background of all statements and noting Talmudic and related parallels. Attention is drawn to the extensive Babylonization of the Giṭṭin text compared to genizah texts.

Book Reclaiming Adoption

Download or read book Reclaiming Adoption written by Dan Cruver and published by Cruciform Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delight in God's delight in you. One of the ambitious dreams that Reclaiming Adoption and its authors share with the Apostle Paul is that when Christians hear the word adoption, they will think first about their adoption by God. This book is premised on the belief that behind the Parable of the Prodigal Son(s) is Scripture's teaching on adoption. The story of the Bible is that God the Father sent his only true and eternal Son on a mission, and that mission was to bring many wayward and rebellious sons home to glory (Hebrews 2:10) in order to adopt them into his family. That is the Story behind the story of the Prodigal Sons. If Christians learn to first think about their adoption by God, and only then about the adoption of children, they will enjoy deeper communion with the God who is love, and experience greater missional engagement with the pain and suffering of this world. Reclaiming Adoption can transform the way you view and live in this world for the glory of God and the good of our world's most needy.

Book Growing God s Family

Download or read book Growing God s Family written by Samuel L. Perry and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2017-06-13 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Illustrates the hidden challenges embedded within the evangelical adoption movement. For over a decade, prominent leaders and organizations among American Evangelicals have spent a substantial amount of time and money in an effort to address what they believe to be the “Orphan Crisis” of the United States. Yet, despite an expansive commitment of resources, there is no reliable evidence that these efforts have been successful. Adoptions are declining across the board, and both foster parenting and foster-adoptions remain steady. Why have evangelical mobilization efforts been so ineffective? To answer this question, Samuel L. Perry draws on interviews with over 220 movement leaders and grassroots families, as well as national data on adoption and fostering, to show that the problem goes beyond orphan care. Perry argues that evangelical social engagement is fundamentally self-limiting and difficult to sustain because their subcultural commitments lock them into an approach that does not work on a practical level. Growing God’s Family ultimately reveals this peculiar irony within American evangelicalism by exposing how certain aspects of the evangelical subculture may stimulate activism to address social problems, even while these same subcultural characteristics undermine their own strategic effectiveness. It provides the most recent analysis of dominant elements within the evangelical subculture and how that subculture shapes the engagement strategies of evangelicals as a group.
