Download or read book The Only Way Out written by Katherine Brewer Ball and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2024-03-15 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Only Way Out, Katherine Brewer Ball explores the American fascination with the escape story. Brewer Ball argues that escape is a key site for exploring American conceptions of freedom and constraint. Stories of escape are never told just once but become mythic in their episodic iterations, revealing the fantasies and desires of society, the storyteller, and the listener. While white escape narratives have typically been laden with Enlightenment fantasies of redemption where freedom is available to any individual willing to seize it, Brewer Ball explores how Black and queer escape offer forms of radical possibility. Drawing on Black studies, queer theory, and performance studies, she examines a range of works, from nineteenth-century American literature to contemporary queer of color art and writing by contemporary American artists including Wilmer Wilson IV, Tourmaline, Tony Kushner, Junot Díaz, Glenn Ligon, Toshi Reagon, and Sharon Hayes. Throughout, escape emerges as a story not of individuality but of collectivity and entanglement.

Book The Only Way Out Is Within

Download or read book The Only Way Out Is Within written by Rohini Singh and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the years, conditioning—both internal and external—has taught you to suppress emotions, suspect others, live in a stilted manner, create dis-ease, and above all, inhibit yourself. Crafty culprits such as worry, fear, guilt, regret, anger, "nonforgiveness," self-pity, and hurt regularly trap you and trick you into joylessness. The ego delights in your inability to get rid of these negative emotions and plays games that drain you. The mind—like the cell phone you feel incomplete without—beeps, buzzes, vibrates, and sends you messages that tear you away from whatever you happen to be doing. Your concentration and focus are overwhelmed with too much data! If you’re afflicted by any of these conditions, you’re living in a disempowered manner and are leading an unsatisfying life. In this book, Rohini Singh will help you change all that. She explains how to keep the base of your well-being—the energy system—clean and clear, teaching you how to listen to your body and maintain your physical health. You’ll learn how to plug emotional leaks, stay away from emotional traps, and recognize the ego’s manipulations . . . and avoid them. You’ll discover the wisdom of "switching off" your mind in order to recharge it, realizing that the only way out is within.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of this book comes from the way I have lived my life - by flirting with it. Attachment bogs you down and limits you as an individual. I live life to the fullest, always looking to doing things I have not done before. All my learning comes from doing, not merely reading. This philosophy has helped me grow beyond the confines of education, profession and society, and explore my creative side. I seek expression in writing stories and making short films. Flirt with Life is my third book, after Faceless – The Only Way Out and An Anglo-Indian in Love. As with my previous books, there is a bit of me here too, but in the form of quotes, thoughts, observations and beliefs from a lifetime of flirting with being an engineer, entrepreneur, patent holder, son, husband, father, creator and love guru!

Book Prayer Is the Only Way out in This Broken World

Download or read book Prayer Is the Only Way out in This Broken World written by Florence A. C. O. Uzoechi and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many must have wondered why Satan came into this world, if you have asked this question or being in one way or the other intimidated by unknown occurrences then this book may help out of what you have imagined. (Spiritual genocide) This book explores the nature of mass destruction in the spiritual and in physical realms. Due to failure to recognize the word spiritual has made it difficult to understand things happening at the other side of our lives such as unreasonable deaths, injustice, if we can reason together this merciless threat to humanity without their consent could have been stopped. Also if a law may perhaps be a draft for these problems as was drafted for the real cases things could have been different. We cannot pretend there is no spiritual life and cannot pretend not to be aware of human suffering on the other side of the World. Things are not meant to stay the same forever, there have to be some changes and how can a change come to live? Unless human makes a move. We are his representatives here on earth, and he is not coming back so soon although, he is with us in the spirit, before he comes back we should at least play our part making some impact and speak up what God has taught us. • Author : Peter T. Coleman
  • Publisher : Columbia University Press

Download or read book The Way Out written by Peter T. Coleman and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-01 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The partisan divide in the United States has widened to a chasm. Legislators vote along party lines and rarely cross the aisle. Political polarization is personal, too—and it is making us miserable. Surveys show that Americans have become more fearful and hateful of supporters of the opposing political party and imagine that they hold much more extreme views than they actually do. We have cordoned ourselves off: we prefer to date and marry those with similar opinions and are less willing to spend time with people on the other side. How can we loosen the grip of this toxic polarization and start working on our most pressing problems? The Way Out offers an escape from this morass. The social psychologist Peter T. Coleman explores how conflict resolution and complexity science provide guidance for dealing with seemingly intractable political differences. Deploying the concept of attractors in dynamical systems, he explains why we are stuck in this rut as well as the unexpected ways that deeply rooted oppositions can and do change. Coleman meticulously details principles and practices for navigating and healing the difficult divides in our homes, workplaces, and communities, blending compelling personal accounts from his years of working on entrenched conflicts with lessons from leading-edge research. The Way Out is a vital and timely guide to breaking free from the cycle of mutual contempt in order to better our lives, relationships, and country.
