Book The One Year Father Daughter Devotions

Download or read book The One Year Father Daughter Devotions written by Jesse Florea and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2012-09-21 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As girls enter their tween and teen years, it’s especially important for them to have an open and growing relationship with their father. Unfortunately, this is often the time when parental relationships are strained. The One Year Father-Daughter Devotions can foster communication and understanding; and it’s a wonderful way for a father to bond with his daughter during a crucial point in her life. Each of the 365 devotions begins with an introductory story, then daddy-daughter time provides discussion questions, activities, or other practical applications of the daily lesson. A “What’s the Word” section gives a related Bible verse to help bring God’s Word alive as father and daughter apply the Scripture to their lives. Written by three fathers, the devotions have a tone that is conversational and relatable: the authors use everything from flavored potato chips to the Etch-A-Sketch game to share truths about God’s Word and to help fathers and daughters relate to each other.

Book Uncompromising

Download or read book Uncompromising written by Hannah Farver and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2011-05-01 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ask any girl on the street what womanhood is about, and you’ll get a blank stare in return. No one knows. Young women are devoid of vision beyond popularity, material wealth, a cute boyfriend or a dream career. Even in Christian circles, significant questions are often left unanswered: What’s the point of purity? Modesty? Femininity? What’s biblical womanhood? Most of all, girls wonder at the longing in their souls for something greater. Uncompromising: A Heart Claimed By a Radical Love cuts straight to the heart of young womanhood. Rather than setting up rules, it pulls at the desire in every woman’s heart to live a life of purpose, fully surrendered to His radical love. Written in an edgy teen voice, Uncompromising is a collection of “field notes” from the author’s own search for answers…and the story of how she stumbled upon the one Cause worth dying for. Contains study questions for group or individual use.

Book Changing the Way You Think

Download or read book Changing the Way You Think written by Sheldon Malone and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-12-30 with total page 759 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was during an isolated tour of military duty that the author Sheldon Malone was led to compile these devotionals written over the years into a one-year devotional book designed to encourage readers to look at Gods Word from a whole new perspective by changing the way they thought. It was not until he changed his thinking that he truly began to see the transforming power of God manifested in his life in tangible ways. This is precisely why we have to allow God to expand our territory and horizon by permitting Him to change the way we think through His Word. As you read each devotional, this authors prayer is that you will find strength and encouragement to allow God to propel you into higher heights and deeper depths in the things of the Kingdom. The Word of God may just give you a different perspective as it encourages you to change your thinking in order to achieve a new mindset.

Book Genes in Development

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eva M. Neumann-Held
  • Publisher : Duke University Press
  • Release : 2006-01-27
  • ISBN : 0822387336
  • Pages : 385 pages

Download or read book Genes in Development written by Eva M. Neumann-Held and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2006-01-27 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of scientific advances such as genomics, predictive diagnostics, genetically engineered agriculture, nuclear transfer cloning, and the manipulation of stem cells, the idea that genes carry predetermined molecular programs or blueprints is pervasive. Yet new scientific discoveries—such as rna transcripts of single genes that can lead to the production of different compounds from the same pieces of dna—challenge the concept of the gene alone as the dominant factor in biological development. Increasingly aware of the tension between certain empirical results and interpretations of those results based on the orthodox view of genetic determinism, a growing number of scientists urge a rethinking of what a gene is and how it works. In this collection, a group of internationally renowned scientists present some prominent alternative approaches to understanding the role of dna in the construction and function of biological organisms. Contributors discuss alternatives to the programmatic view of dna, including the developmental systems approach, methodical culturalism, the molecular process concept of the gene, the hermeneutic theory of description, and process structuralist biology. None of the approaches cast doubt on the notion that dna is tremendously important to biological life on earth; rather, contributors examine different ideas of how dna should be represented, evaluated, and explained. Just as ideas about genetic codes have reached far beyond the realm of science, the reconceptualizations of genetic theory in this volume have broad implications for ethics, philosophy, and the social sciences. Contributors. Thomas Bürglin, Brian C. Goodwin, James Griesemer, Paul Griffiths, Jesper Hoffmeyer, Evelyn Fox Keller, Gerd B. Müller, Eva M. Neumann-Held, Stuart A. Newman, Susan Oyama, Christoph Rehmann-Sutter, Sahotra Sarkar, Jackie Leach Scully, Gerry Webster, Ulrich Wolf

Book Homology Genes and Evolutionary Innovation

Download or read book Homology Genes and Evolutionary Innovation written by Günter P. Wagner and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-07-10 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A major synthesis of homology, written by a top researcher in the field Homology—a similar trait shared by different species and derived from common ancestry, such as a seal's fin and a bird’s wing—is one of the most fundamental yet challenging concepts in evolutionary biology. This groundbreaking book provides the first mechanistically based theory of what homology is and how it arises in evolution. Günter Wagner, one of the preeminent researchers in the field, argues that homology, or character identity, can be explained through the historical continuity of character identity networks—that is, the gene regulatory networks that enable differential gene expression. He shows how character identity is independent of the form and function of the character itself because the same network can activate different effector genes and thus control the development of different shapes, sizes, and qualities of the character. Demonstrating how this theoretical model can provide a foundation for understanding the evolutionary origin of novel characters, Wagner applies it to the origin and evolution of specific systems, such as cell types; skin, hair, and feathers; limbs and digits; and flowers. The first major synthesis of homology to be published in decades, Homology, Genes, and Evolutionary Innovation reveals how a mechanistically based theory can serve as a unifying concept for any branch of science concerned with the structure and development of organisms, and how it can help explain major transitions in evolution and broad patterns of biological diversity.
