Book excerpt: In reference to Paul's epistle to the Romans, Martin Luther penned, "It is really the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest gospel, and is worthy not only that every Christian should know it word for word, but occupy himself with it every day, as the daily bread of the soul. It can never be read or pondered too much, and the more it is dealt with the more precious it becomes, and the better it tastes." The present volume guides us into this "precious" epistle, presenting to us the wonders of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Here indeed is "daily bread" for the soul.

Book Faith and Obedience in Romans

Download or read book Faith and Obedience in Romans written by Glenn Davies and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-01-29 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is a fresh approach to Paul's Epistle to the Romans. Taking Paul's Jewish background seriously, it challenges the prevailing consensus that Paul's object in the first three chapters is to conclude that everyone is under the power of sin. Davies shows that in Paul's thinking there has always been a category of the righteous, those who live by faith and express their faith in obedience. Paul's indictment of Jews and Gentiles, therefore, is an indictment of only the wicked among Jews and Gentiles, not of the righteous.

Book The Insanity of Obedience

Download or read book The Insanity of Obedience written by Nik Ripken and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wise Sheep Among the Wolves All Christian disciples have one thing in common: as they carry the gospel across the ocean and across the street, persecution will become the norm for those who choose to follow Jesus. How believers respond in the face of persecution reveals everything about their level of faith and obedience. The Insanity of Obedience is a bold challenge to global discipleship. Nik Ripken exposes the danger of safe Christianity and calls readers to something greater. The Insanity of Obedience challenges Christians in the same, provocative way that Jesus did. This book dares you—and prepares you—to cross the street and the oceans with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Some of Jesus’ instructions sound uncomfortable and are potentially dangerous. We may be initially encouraged by His declaration, “I am sending you out.” But how are we to respond when He then tells us that He is sending us out “like sheep among wolves"? In light of the words of Jesus, how can modern day believers rest comfortably in the status quo? How can we embrace casual faith in light of the radical commands of Jesus which are anything but casual? Ripken brings decades of ministry experience in some of the most persecuted areas of the world to bear on our understanding of faith in Jesus. The Insanity of Obedience is a call to roll up your sleeves . . . and to follow and partner with Jesus in the toughest places on this planet. "We have the high privilege of answering Jesus’ call to go," Ripken says. "But let us be clear about this: we go on His terms, not ours. If we go at all, we go as sheep among wolves." Jesus gives us Himself. And He gives us the tools necessary for those who dare to journey with Him.

Book excerpt: Our story is unpolished, transparent, and comical. We are not perfect and have no intention to pretend we are. We are followers. We are still learning and sometimes learning happens through making mistakes. Our story is full of them. We Will Follow will point out the importance of the local church. The importance of surrounding yourself with other believers. I have a unique perspective with my unchurched background. I pray seeing faith from this perspective will help those in the church relate differently towards those that did not grow up in the church. We Will Follow is not just our story. It’s a story about God and how He has walked with us along the way. Each step of obedience was important in leading us in the right direction. Obedience is simply doing what He says and finding victory in the faith that follows. Obedience will lead to faith. It always does

Includes the following topics: * Original sin and inherited depravity * Election and predestination * Grace and mercy of God * Falling from grace * Imputation of Christ's sinless life * Faith only or obedient faith? Does Scripture teach that we are born totally depraved because we inherit Adam's sin, or are we free moral agents having the free will power to choose between good and evil? Are the elect chosen based on unconditional predestination, or is forgiveness conditional on our conduct? Did Jesus die as atonement for the sins of all people or just for a limited few? What is the relationship between law, faith, works, and grace? Can a child of God so sin as to be lost, or does the Bible teach the perseverance of the saints (eternal security or "once saved, always saved")?

Download or read book Radical Obedience written by Ollie Fobbs and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radical Obedience is about looking through the kingdom principles of our faith and developing a style of faith in Christ that is suitable for each of us, Radical Obedience is a series of books that will reveal the underscored word of God, to reveal things and thoughts that at least in my life had been over looked, or, overshadowed by a harsh lifestyle. After growing up in Richmond Virginia, the Lord said to me, move from this place and go back home, well my first thought, was; It is going to take more than God to get me back to North Carolina, then, the Lord took his hand off of me and crazy things began to happen, that was when I learned about Radical Obedience. This is too much to put into one book, so, I am putting it into 16 books, each one will deal with the possibility of all of us being able to develop Radical Obedience. Will it happen for everybody? I don't believe that it will, why? Because most readers read, just to be reading, they don't read to apply what was read, so in each of these books, it is a constant rotation of what was said, then repeated.

Book The Center is Jesus Christ Himself

Download or read book The Center is Jesus Christ Himself written by Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2021-04-02 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The polarization in the Church today can be traced back to a more fundamental crisis in theology, one which has failed to connect our mundane experiences and the mysteries of the Christian faith with the person of Jesus Christ. Ecclesial discourse on the so-called ‘hot- button issues’ of the day too often take place without considering the foundation and goal of the Church. And this is unfortunately due to a similar tendency in the academic theology that informs that ecclesial discourse. In short, much of post-conciliar Catholic theology is adrift, floating aimlessly away from the center of the Christian faith, who is Christ. The Center is Jesus Christ Himself is a collection of essays which anchor theological reflection in Jesus Christ. These diverse essays share a unified focal point, but engage with a variety of theological subdisciplines (e.g., dogmatic, moral, Biblical, etc.), areas (e.g., Christology, Pneumatology, missiology, etc.), and periods (e.g., patristic, medieval, and modern). Given the different combinations of sub-disciplines, areas, and periods, theology is susceptible to fragmentation when it is not held together by some principle of unity. A theology in which the person of Jesus Christ serves as that principle of unity is a Christocentric theology. Together, the essays illustrate not only what Christocentric theology looks like, but also what the consequences are when Christ is dislodged from the center, whether by a conspicuous silence on, or by a relativization of, his unique salvific mission. The volume is published in honor of Emeritus Professor of Systematic Theology at Boston College, Rev. Dr. Robert P. Imbelli, who dedicated his teaching and writing to bringing Christ back to the center of Catholic theological discourse.
