Book Electricity Market Reform in Norway

Download or read book Electricity Market Reform in Norway written by E. Magnus and published by Springer. This book was released on 2000-05-15 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Norwegian deregulation was, together with the British, a pioneer forerunner in the restructuring of European electricity industry. The Norwegian and British model both had their distinct features: the British was based on privatisation, structural change and gradual opening up of the market. The Norwegian model did not change ownership or structure, but relied heavily on a radical opening of the market way down to household consumers. The Norwegian model also developed a more advanced pool system based on actual bidding both on the supply and demand side. The Norwegian model also triggered the first regional integrated competitive power market in the world. The book draws on a wide range of applied research and gives a unique summary of the Norwegian experience in English.

Book Power System Economics

Download or read book Power System Economics written by Ivar Wangensteen and published by Akademika Pub. This book was released on 2011-12-31 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written as a textbook for students of engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). It is designed for the Power Markets course which is part of the Energy and environment masters programme and the recently established international MSc programme in Electric Power Engineering. As the title indicates, it deals with both power system economics in general and the practical implementation and experience from the Nordic market. Some of the subjects covered: Restructuring/deregulation of the power supply system; Grid access including tariffs and congestion management; Generation planning; Market modelling; Ancillary services; Regulation of grid monopolies. Although it is written primarily as a textbook for students, readers outside the universities may also find the book interesting. It deals with problems that have been subject of considerable attention in the power sector for some years and it addresses issues that are still relevant and important.

Book Capacity adequacy in the Nordic electricity market

Download or read book Capacity adequacy in the Nordic electricity market written by Nordic Council of Ministers and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2015-08-26 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An increasing share of intermittent renewable generation and reduced profitability of conventional power generation has led to a growing concern for capacity adequacy in the Nordic electricity market (Nord Pool market area). It does not make sense to assess capacity adequacy for each country separately in the Nord Pool market area as it is highly integrated in terms of both interconnector capacity and market integration. Capacity challenges are rarely isolated to one country or bidding zone. This report analyses what market solutions may be used to manage capacity adequacy in the Nord Pool market area, and how an efficient transition to adequate market solutions could be achieved. The main analysis reveals several measures that would strengthen price formation and cost recovery in the Nord Pool market area, although in general, the market is already highly liquid and well-functioning.

Book Regional Electricity Market Design Regional Electricity Market Design

Download or read book Regional Electricity Market Design Regional Electricity Market Design written by Lindboe, Hans Henrik and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2016-10-24 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do current electricity market designs ensure a sufficient electricity supply at all times? This topic is currently the subject of intense debate across Europe, and several major countries such as Germany, the UK, France and Italy have decided that additional measures – so-called capacity remuneration mechanisms - are needed to supplement current market designs. This report describes and analyses the advantages and disadvantages of a range of measures proposed or currently implemented across Europe, and includes both best estimates of how the implementation of these measures will impact Nordic electricity prices as well as recommendations to the Nordic countries regarding a cost-efficient path to ensuring the Nordic security of supply.

Book Demand side flexibility in the Nordic electricity market

Download or read book Demand side flexibility in the Nordic electricity market written by Nordic Council of Ministers and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2017-12-12 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The organisation for the Nordic energy regulators, NordREG, has ordered this study to explore status of demand side flexibility among Nordic distribution system operators (DSOs). Demand side response is a question of mobilising potential flexibility in how and when end users choose to use energy, and how such flexibility can provide value to the network. Network value can be reduced or deferred investments, better system reliability or other system cost reductions. This report addresses concepts for utilising demand response and related regulatory issues. The report also includes an interview study among selected DSOs in the Nordic countries. This addresses current status, how flexibility can be a value for their business, what they see as barriers and planned activities relating to demand response.

Book Power Transmission Cost Calculation in Deregulated Electricity Market

Download or read book Power Transmission Cost Calculation in Deregulated Electricity Market written by Giorgos Stamtsis and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The restructuring of electricity industry towards a competitive market has resulted in essential changes at the operation of power market. This book illustrates the results of research work made as intersection between technique and economy. Cornerstones of this work are carried out in the fields of congestion and power system fixed costs. A contribution to the study of power losses cost is also included in this book. Considering the system congestions as a main reason for price volatility the book presents a method for the allocation of congestion component of nodal prices for energy to the market participants. Furthermore, a new method for the simulation of zonal pricing using nodal pricing algorithm, in order to assess the Norwegian market, is given. The last part of the book deals with the task of power system fixed cost allocation. For this purpose, game theoretical methods are used.

Book Demand response in the Nordic electricity market

Download or read book Demand response in the Nordic electricity market written by THEMA Consulting Group and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2014-09-10 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report provides input to a Nordic strategy on how to address consumer flexibility in a cost-efficient manner. The main recommendation is to focus on increased market efficiency in general and not promote specific measures on the demand side unless market failures are identified. Even so, it’s recommended that standard data formats on price signals to small consumers should be further assessed.
