Download or read book Equals in Learning and Piety written by Beverly Mack and published by University of Wisconsin Pres. This book was released on 2023-07-11 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equals in Learning and Piety is an intellectual history of the ‘Yan Taru (Associates) movement, a women-led Islamic educational organization that continues to this day in both northern Nigeria and in the United States. Drawing on extensive scholarship across disciplines including history, Islamic studies, anthropology, gender and women’s studies, and literary studies—and alongside rigorous ethnographic research and interviews with leading Nigerian Muslim scholars—Beverly Mack argues that this formidable Muslim women’s movement consolidated the religious and social order established by the Sokoto Jihad in the early nineteenth century. Mack shows how women scholars instructed rural Hausa and Fulani women in Muslim ethics, doctrine, traditions, and behavior that followed and replaced the traumatic experience of warfare unleashed by the Jihad. She shows that these unique social engagements shaped people’s agency in the dynamic process of social change throughout the nineteenth century. Women imaginatively reconciled Muslim reformist doctrines and traditional practices in Nigeria, and these doctrines have continued to be influential in the diaspora, especially among Black American Muslims in the United States in the twenty-first century. With this major investigation of a little-studied phenomenon, Mack demonstrates the importance of women to the religious, political, and social transformation of Nigerian Muslim society.

Download or read book Miracles Visions and Dreams written by Ramona E. Henegan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-08-18 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miracles Visions & Dreams, is a book of prophetic visions. It is a testimony of Gods intervention in our everyday life. I did not write my visions for fame or fortune or to let the world know of my greatness I am but one of The Fathers little ones. I want to let the world know that there is no secret what God can do, what he has done for others he will do for you. I hope that the stories in this book, which are all fact; give hope to the hopeless, encourage believers in faith. And most of all I hope and pray that it will point the way to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, Who Is the Door into heaven. This book also tells of a special love, between a grandmother and granddaughter.
Download or read book Jesus the Christ written by Thomas Sutton and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 1999-10-25 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was raised in a Christian home. I loved hearing stories about Jesus and his life here on earth. Growing up, I became less and less enthusiastic about my religion for several reasons. One critical reason was a natural process. As I matured, I became more aware of the hypocrisy of religion. You know -- Do as I say, not as I do. One day a week act like a Christian, and the other six days be selfish, greedy, and a bigot. At that time, my faith wasn't strong enough to endure. Now I know that if I look hard enough, I can find hypocrisy in anything. I pray that I've grown beyond the paradox. My book is an attempt to make the first four books of the New Testament easy to read. It's written in prose. In other words, it's a narrative of Jesus' life using the first four Gospels. My book combines Matthew, Mark, Luke and John into a chronological narrative of Jesus' life. It is written through the eyes of 'you,' as Peter. The book is Scriptural. It doesn't change, alter, or sensationalize the original versions of events. In some instances, I combine multiple versions of the same event into one. My inspiration for writing this book is to bring enthusiasm about Jesus to Christians and new revelations to non-Christians. Download or read book Crimean Tatar Folktales written by Imre Baski and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2024-07-22 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains Crimean Tatar folklore texts that had been collected by the noted Hungarian Turkologist Ignác Kúnos during World War I, specifically from Russian Muslim prisoners of war in Hungarian camps. The collection consists of 38 fairy tales and a partial version of the Chora-batir epic. The tales featuring padishahs, their sons, and naive boys, exhibit the enchanting diversity of Crimean Tatar folk imagination. The introductory study delves into linguistic aspects, then the next chapter explicates the transcription system’s phonetic nuances. It is followed by an English translation, which reflects Kúnos’ Hungarian translation in a much ameliorated and revised form. A sizable trilingual (Crimean Tatar–English–Russian) glossary follows covering the entire Crimean Tatar material collected by Kúnos. It becomes evident that dialectal features cannot be sharply separated across the tales since the Crimean dialects are highly mixed in character, distinguished only by the different proportions of northern (Kipchak) and southern (Oghuz) elements. The present volume, while preserving valuable pieces of Crimean Tatar folklore and offering linguistic insights, also opens a unique window into a distant time and culture.
