Book Charismatic Renewal and Pentecostalism

Download or read book Charismatic Renewal and Pentecostalism written by Isidore Iwejuo Nkwocha and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-09-30 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Holy Spirit is a sine qua non in the life of the church and in all Christian life and experience. The importance of the experiential and praxis-oriented theology of the Charismatic Renewal and Pentecostalism cannot be overemphasized in the realization of the potentials of a Spirit-animated church. In fact, Charismatic Renewal in the Nigerian Catholic Church is an essential part of the changing face of the Catholic Church in Nigeria. This work is, therefore, using Charismatic and Pentecostal theology and praxes to argue for the renewal of the Nigerian Catholic Church. It avers that the praxis-oriented and experiential theology of the Charismatics and Pentecostals, which characterize them as Spirit-filled groups and churches, are enabling the Nigerian Catholic Church to realize the potentials of a Spirit-driven church. It upholds that the Nigeria Catholic Church through the Nigerian Catholic Charismatic Renewal, which is an indispensable part of the changing face of the Catholic Church in Nigeria, has wittingly or unwittingly begun the renewal of her pneumatological, ecclesiological, and liturgical doctrines and practices in accord with those of a truly Spirit-animated church.

Book Empowerment of the Catholic Laity in the Nigerian Political Situation

Download or read book Empowerment of the Catholic Laity in the Nigerian Political Situation written by Peter Chidi Okuma and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In light of this research work, the Vatican II Council remains a landmark, and its document Apostolicam Actuositatem (what we decided to call a 'Text of witness of actions' for the Catholic Laity), the Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity, inter alia Lumen gentium and Gaudium et spes, that border on the mission of the Catholic Laity in the human society, is a great achievement. After the Vatican II Council the Church saw the need to enhance and harness the witnessing message of the Council for the Catholic Laity mission in the Church and in the world. In the light of the foregoing this work is part of these efforts. We developed a 'hermeneutical model' via the political theology of Johann Baptist Metz in the light of the Vatican II Council message that becomes a challenge for concrete action of the Nigerian Catholic Laity in the existential socio-political situation of Nigeria.

Download or read book The Principle of Subsidiarity in Catholic Social Thought written by Simeon Tsetim Iber and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Principle of Subsidiarity in Catholic Social Thought: Implications for Social Justice and Civil Society in Nigeria provides a theoretical and practical framework for a just vision of society. It focuses on how support for individuals and social groups in Nigeria can foster the building of their communities through the practice of social justice. Social justice will ensure the building of trust across ethnic lines, challenge corruption, encourage accountability and servant leadership, protect minority tribes from larger ones, and promote grassroots self-help tribal, communal, religious, and non-governmental associations as agents of positive social change and development. These dynamics interact within a healthy federal structure that respects its constituent parts for the common good. This volume is recommended as a graduate text for courses in theology, religious education, and social philosophy, and for all interested in promoting the common good.

Book Reception of Vatican II in Nigeria Igbo Church with Reference to Awka Diocese

Download or read book Reception of Vatican II in Nigeria Igbo Church with Reference to Awka Diocese written by Innocent O. Dim and published by Peter Lang Pub Incorporated. This book was released on 2004 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work expresses the understanding of the Catholic Bishops of Nigeria/Igbo Church in interpreting Vatican II for the development and communion of the local Churches. The Second Vatican Council is the first council the Nigerian Church has ever experienced. Its influence made it possible that there has not been an organ in the history of Nigeria that is so theological about the development of the local Churches and so diplomatic and outspoken about the situation of the country like the Catholic Bishops_ Conference of Nigeria. The Reception of Vatican II in Nigeria/Igbo Church is ongoing dynamite for the better understanding and cooperation between the hierarchy and the laity. Since Vatican II the laity in Nigeria/Igbo Church breathe the air of aggiornamento and renewal and have a clear vision of their functions in the Church in which they also have full and responsible participation.

Book The Nigerian Nation and Religion

Download or read book The Nigerian Nation and Religion written by Hyacinth Kalu and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-06-15 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, which is the first of a-three-volume series of interfaith relationships in Nigeria, presents Nigeria as a multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation, with religion controlling almost every aspects of life. It highlights the deep-rooted religious divide in Nigeria and looks into various ways that we can move beyond the religious bitterness existing among the three dominant religions in Nigeria: African traditional religion, Islam, and Christianity, and live, work and co-exit peacefully with one another as sisters and brothers. Although this volume begins with the history of Nigeria as nation, its primary interest, and indeed, the interest of the entire series, is not with the politics, economics, and culture of the Nigerian people per se; its primary focus is the religion of the people. Hence, it is a study of African Traditional Religion, Islam, and Christianity in Nigeria. The focus is not the theological and dogmatic principles and faith life of these religions, nor the individual and various sects within these religions; rather these religions are studied from the standpoint of interfaith encounter and relationships, as a requisite for peace, unity and harmony in Nigeria.

Book excerpt: Pope John Paul II speaks in "Ecclesia in Africa" (1995) of the necessity for the church to inculturate itself into the cultures of the African peoples. This book shows what makes inculturation in Africa a necessity. Against the background of a socio-empircal study it becomes understandable, why in the history of mission, from a European-religious perspective much remains misunderstood and causes distress until today. The author focuses on the 'way of Inculturation" showing how a "rooting of the Gospel in Africa" could be possible and sustainable. Book The Integral Salvation of the Human Person in Ecclesia in Africa

Download or read book The Integral Salvation of the Human Person in Ecclesia in Africa written by George Maduakolam Okorie and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theology that ignores the concrete life situations of people and their improvement falls short of its task. The author seeks to develop a contribution to theology taking concrete African living conditions as its starting point in the light of the 'fullness of life' (Jn 10,10) by linking a personal with a pastoral-biblical reflection on the meaning of salvation. The work initiates a theological dialogue between the biblical notions of redemption-salvation and the teachings of the Second Vatican Council vis-à-vis the Nigerian culture. Going to the Semitic and Greek roots of 'salvation', the work shows how the Igbo language-culture can enrich and be enriched by it. Biblically, in the Old Testament, salvation is a gift of God covering bodily, social, personal and interpersonal well-being. The transition from the Old to the New Testament brings a change of meaning in so far as salvation is bound up with the person of Jesus and his care for the human person. Consequently, the thesis intends to contribute to the realization of integral salvation in the Nigerian context in the light of the Church's mission in Africa using Ecclesia in Africa as a reference.
