Download or read book The Natural Gas Industry 1921 Vol 15 Classic Reprint written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-10 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Natural Gas Industry, 1921, Vol. 15 Natural gas is becoming scarce, the demands for natural gas are now greater than the available supply. When the present supplies are exhausted w must go back to the more expensive and inferior manufactured gas. The use of natural gas is not an inalienable right but a privilege enjoyed by about ten per cent of our entire population in the United States, and used in a most extravagant and wasteful manner with no regard for the future, and not appreciated until it is gone. The above statements showing that the natural gas supply is being depleted in present gas fields, is simply a repetition of what has taken place in former gas fields. I shall call your attention to a few important cases where former prolific gas fields are now extinct. The Findlay field in Ohio was once a noted gas terri tory. Today little or no natural gas is produced there from. A few years ago Indiana. Which had refused to admit that the gas supply was exhaustible until too late, was forced to abandon the use of natural gas. Today. Indiana gets what little gas it has from other states. Book Operational Aspects of Oil and Gas Well Testing

Download or read book Operational Aspects of Oil and Gas Well Testing written by S. McAleese and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-03-10 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well Testing is recognised by many operating oil and gas companies to be the most hazardous operation they routinely undertake. Therefore, it is of great importance that such operations are extremely well planned and executed. This handbook covers all the major "Operational Aspects of Oil and Gas Well Testing" and uses a structured approach to guide the reader through the steps required to safely and effectively plan a well test operation under just about any circumstances world wide.Safety procedures and well testing recommended practices are rigorously addressed in this book, as are the responsibilities of those persons involved in well testing operations. Perforating equipment, drill stem test equipment and bottom hole pressure gauges are discussed in detail in the book. There is also a very valuable section on sub sea equipment, an area often not well understood even by experienced engineers who may have been primarily involved with land or jackup rigs. A major part of the book is the detailed coverage of the equipment and instrumentation that makes up a surface well testing package. It also covers operational and testing related problems such as, hydrates, wax and sand, and offers the reader some possible solutions. There are useful chapters on sampling, onsite chemistry, coil tubing and nitrogen operations and basic stimulation as they relate to well testing. Finally there is an extensive section of appendices covering useful engineering calculations and there is a complete example of a detailed well testing programme.

Book A Handbook of the Petroleum Industry Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Handbook of the Petroleum Industry Vol 1 of 2 Classic Reprint written by David T. Day and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 982 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Handbook of the Petroleum Industry, Vol. 1 of 2 Wherever petroleum occurs in nature, natural gas is generally found in the same locality or region. Gas, however, is less restricted in its distribution than is oil, and numerous gas pools exist where no petroleum occurs in close proximity. Because of the relationship of natural gas to petroleum, the two substances must, to a consider able extent, be considered together. Both petroleum and natural gas are among the great industrial resources of the world and the countries which possess them in large quantities are exceedingly fortunate. The fact that these substances have not yet been developed in a particular locality is rarely proof of their absence, as no year passes without the discovery of new and often unsuspected fields or pools. The occurrence of oil and gas is widespread, no stratified rock being so young, and scarcely any so old, as absolutely to preclude their existence. Consequently, any country in which geological conditions are favorable is warranted in exerting every effort and undertaking great expense to investigate and determine its resources in petroleum and natural gas. In this outline of the occurrence of petroleum the numerous references made use of are given credit where possible. In addition to those specifically mentioned there are certain general sources of information, such as the report of S. F. Peckham entitled, The Production, Technology and Uses of Petroleum and its Products, in volume 10 Of the Tenth Census of the United States, 1880, pages 1-319' A Treatise on Petroleum by Sir Boverton Redwood, London, 1913, three volumes; Petroleum Mining and Oil Field Development, by Arthur Beeby Thompson, London, 1916, 648 pages; the annual statis tical reports in the Mineral Resources series of the United States Geological Survey, by David T. Day, S. H. Shotwell, Joseph D. Weeks, F. H. Oliphant, W. T. Griswold and John D. Northrop, and many other Geological Survey references of a general nature. In this chapter the word oil is frequently used as being sufficiently synonymous with petroleum for the subject matter in hand. Book The Natural Gas Industry in Appalachia

Download or read book The Natural Gas Industry in Appalachia written by David A. Waples and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2005 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The large scale, practical uses of natural gas were initially introduced by innovators Joseph Pew and George Westinghouse for the steel and glass industries in Pittsburgh, and local gas companies evolved from individual wells to an interstate supply network acquired by Rockefeller's Standard Oil interests. Natural gas is now a prevalent part of American markets and is filling the critical void left by a lack of new coal, oil, and nuclear power facilities. This vital American enterprise began in the Appalachian states as an accidental and underestimated by-product of the oil rush of 1859. This book explores the evolution and significance of the natural gas industry. Early chapters discuss the first natural gas discoveries in the 1800s, the ways in which entrepreneurs used the fuel, the consequent displacement of the manufactured gas industry, and the expansion of the Appalachian natural gas network-largely initiated by Standard Oil interests-into major regional markets. Later chapters discuss the growth of the Appalachian drilling industry, the first wooden and metal pipelines, the development of gas compressor engines, the pioneering of gas storage fields, and the genesis of gas marketing for lighting, heating, cooking, and industrial use. The concluding chapter describes the growth of the Appalachian natural gas industry since its major source of supply shifted from local wells in the 1950s to new discoveries of natural gas in the southwestern United States and the Gulf of Mexico. The conclusion also describes the impact of gas shortages and the government regulation that affects the industry to the present day.

Book North American Natural Gas Markets

Download or read book North American Natural Gas Markets written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report sunnnarizes the research by an Energy Modeling Forum working group on the evolution of the North American natural gas markets between now and 2010. The group's findings are based partly on the results of a set of economic models of the natural gas industry that were run for four scenarios representing significantly different conditions: two oil price scenarios (upper and lower), a smaller total US resource base (low US resource case), and increased potential gas demand for electric generation (high US demand case). Several issues, such as the direction of regulatory policy and the size of the gas resource base, were analyzed separately without the use of models.
