Book excerpt: The adventure story exposed the unique and outrageous cultures of Nigerians, with more emphasis on the Ibo speaking tribe in the eastren part of the country. Nigeria is known as the giant of Africa. The book also portrays the flambouyant lifestyle of wealthy Nigerians, a lifestyle which has been the major source of evil in this society, and has led our youngsters to the edge of committing all sorts of dubious crimes and atrocities to meet up with the standards, circulating fake business letters abroad with the intent to dupe, ritual killings for sacrifice, demonic cults, child trafficking and many more. These practises have tarnished ruined the image and reputations of Nigerians all over the world. In this country we love money more than we love our God. It's very disgusting and appalling to see our churches turn places of worship into money making entities, contrary to the doctrine of religion brought to our country many years ago by white people. It's been said that "money, power, and sex" are the roots of all evil. Sex crime is at an alarming rate in our higher instituations. Professors have turned female students into their sex slaves to give them a passing grade in their classes. Despite all odds, we still have our unique qualities.

Book excerpt: The Naked God is the brilliant climax to Peter F. Hamilton's awe-inspiring Night's Dawn Trilogy, a space opera that is “big, boisterous, and has something for everyone” (Science Fiction Weekly). As the Confederation begins to collapse politically and economically, the “possessed” insidiously infiltrate more and more worlds. Meanwhile, Quinn Dexter is loose on Earth, destroying the giant arcologies one at a time. As Louise Kavanagh tries to track him down, she manages to acquire some strange and powerful allies whose goals don’t quite match her own. The campaign to liberate Mortonridge from the possessed degenerates into a horrendous land battle, the kind which hasn't been seen by humankind for six hundred years. And finally, Joshua Calvert and Syrinx race to fly their starships on a mission to find the Sleeping God — which an alien race believes holds the key to overthrowing the possessed. "Elements of space opera, Straubesque horror and adrenaline-laced action make this a demanding, rewarding read." —Publishers Weekly on The Reality Dysfunction The Night’s Dawn Trilogy The Reality Dysfunction The Neutronium Alchemist The Naked God

Book excerpt: NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE In this striking debut from the author of the National Book Award winner Paris Trout, Pete Dexter chronicles a murder and its consequences in the fictional blue-collar Philadelphia neighborhood of God’s Pocket. Leon Hubbard makes other men nervous, talking to himself or anyone who will listen about the things he’s cut with his straight razor. So when he crosses the wrong guy on a South Philly construction site and winds up with his head caved in, everyone is content to bury the bad news with the body. Everyone, that is, except Leon’s mother—and a local newspaper columnist hoping the story will resurrect his career. Only a mother could love a man like Leon. But only an outsider could expect to change anything in God’s Pocket. Praise for God’s Pocket “Riveting . . . a first-class first novel . . . highlighted by superior writing, dialogue that rings true, and a highly believable background.”—Associated Press “God’s Pocket sings, snarls, mugs, wisecracks, buys you a drink, steals your wallet, and takes you home to meet the folks.”—Richard Price “My own favorite among Mr. Dexter’s work remains God’s Pocket, which I continue to admire for its rich, well-nigh Dickensian mixture of verisimilitude, real-life absurdity, horror and romance.”—Robert Stone, The New York Times Book Review “Rollicking . . . a tough Philadelphia neighborhood comes to life in these pages.”—Playboy

Book God s Hostage

Download or read book God s Hostage written by Andrew Brunson and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1993, Andrew Brunson was asked to travel to Turkey, the largest unevangelized country in the world, to serve as a missionary. Though hesitant because of the daunting and dangerous task that lay ahead, Andrew and his wife, Norine, believed this was God's plan for them. What followed was a string of threats and attacks, but also successes in starting new churches in a place where many people had never met a Christian. As their work with refugees from Syria, including Kurds, gained attention and suspicion, Andrew and Norine acknowledged the threat but accepted the risk, determining to stay unless God told them to leave. In 2016, they were arrested. Though the State eventually released Norine, who remained in Turkey, Andrew was imprisoned. Accused of being a spy and being among the plotters of the attempted coup, he became a political pawn whose story soon became known around the world. God's Hostage is the incredible true story of his imprisonment, his brokenness, and his eventual freedom. Anyone with a heart for missions, especially to the Muslim world, will love this tension-laden and faith-laced book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Selected as a "Top 10 Fall New Book Release" by theyoungfolks.com, God's Naked Will and other Sacrilege is an absorbing debut collection of stories, bold, risky, and entertaining--at turns erotic and hysterical--that are visionary, yet anchored in the details of ordinary, blue-collar life in the south of the United States. Within these pages faith collides with schizophrenia and demon possession, incest and deformity, devoted virgins and hired studs, illness and addiction, alternative life-styles and nude weddings, sexual choices and preferences, masturbation and voyeurism, cock-fights and executions, ministers and deacons. Each story packs a mean, unrelenting flurry of gut punches that prove to be brutal and unrelenting. From the precipitous bluffs of Mt. Nebo, to the treacherous inner city of Chicago, from the simmering waters of Hot Springs to the Kahlua colored waters of the Hatchie-Coon bottoms of the St. Francis River, from the death chamber at the Cummins Correctional Unit to a swingers resort on the Yucatan Peninsula, from frog races at the Toad Suck Ferry to cockfights in Puerto Moreles, from the reality of now to the surreal of the after-life, readers will find themselves transported through time and space and feel the primal urges, the carnal yearnings, and the spiritual convictions of these characters as their faith, heavy as a curse upon them, guides them through their ideas of right and wrong, of morality and depravity, of sexual release and moral responsibility.

Book The Naked Flame and the God Business

Download or read book The Naked Flame and the God Business written by S. J. Byrne and published by . This book was released on 2017-01-26 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Armchair Fiction presents classic sci-fi double novels with original illustrations. Veteran author S. J. Byrne spins the first tale, "The Naked Goddess." Robert Kelly came from wealth. He possessed incredible good looks, a quick mind, and was acknowledged as one of the most eligible bachelors around. However, what the public didn't know about young Robert Kelly was that he was also a government agent, embedded within the narcotics division. He had volunteered to dismantle a South American opium ring, a job that had previously left one agent dead and another stark mad. But there was far more to this job than quelling the simple threat of illegal narcotics. Kelly's research had led him to a startling fact: an undreamed of source of power lay within his grasp--and its root was of interplanetary origin! So Kelly went to South America. But what he found there was a mystery almost too twisted to solve, and at the heart of it all was a crazed religious zealot, a tiny alien intruder, a cache of priceless radioactive alien crystals, and a beautiful goddess, whose charms and beauty no man could resist! The second novel is Philip Jose Farmers, "The God Business." His name was Durham, known around Onaback as a meek-mannered college professor. But when Durham decided to label himself as a god-like character and take over the whole town, things got serious--especially when his efforts proved successful! All attempts to stop the plump, elderly professor had failed: bullets, bombs--all were ineffective. Even when military men were sent in to put a stop to his shenanigans, the only thing that happened was the men didn't come back! So what to do? Daniel Temper, with the backing of the President, was sent in to handle the job. Soon he and his companion, the beautiful Alice Lewis, were trekking toward Onaback, intent on taking the town back and eliminating the old man's power source. A tough thing to do, though, when you and your lovely companion are both completely nude and armed only with a tank of water!
