Book The Mystic Test Book Or the Magic of the Cards

Download or read book The Mystic Test Book Or the Magic of the Cards written by Olney H. Richmond and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long shrouded in the mystery the Destiny Cards system within these pages has been passed from trusted hand to trusted hand. Until recently each owner was required to sign a solemn agreement not to pass on the book, lend it or allow any copy to be made. A respectable enquirer would perhaps read a few passages under the eagle eyed supervision of their host. Within the mundane pack of 52 printed images lie 4 seasons, 12 moons, 53 weeks and the Joker bears a leap year. The Mystic Test Book by Olney H. Richmond is the absolute original in terms of codifying the sacred mysteries of the cards and it remains the very core of the discipline. Suitable for the cautious beginner but also allowing avenues of development for the more experienced seeker of truths. The parlance of the author is delightfully appropriate to his Victorian era, the moment when spirituality began to make itself known in the modern era, finding cracks in the rigidly rational system of the enlightenment and giving voice to the unusual and mystical. As a facsimile of the oldest available edition, this work is perfect in its imperfection. Allowing the reader to take the most authentic approach to find their appropriate representation in the pack of cards and their destined path. The work is comprehensive and should the reader delve further into it for answers, they are rewarded with secrets that make the veil between our banal realm of physical realities and level of comprehension seem thin. Book The Mystic Test Book

Download or read book The Mystic Test Book written by Olney H. Richmond and published by . This book was released on 1919 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Olney H. Richmond examines playing cards and their history, and how their symbolism and uses contain many sacred mysteries and mystical revelations which date back centuries. The Mystic Test Book is an eye-opening and exhaustively illustrated work of history, tracing the origins of playing cards and examining their unique appearance. Over 280 distinct images populate the pages of this unique manual, showing the permutations and kinds of playing card, the differences between the four suits - hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs. The author advances the 'destiny card' system, whereby cards can be used for predicting the future or for discovering meaning behind past events. To further explain, Richmond explores the astrological Zodiac and the well-known system of Tarot cards. As this book is primarily concerned with the traditional 4-suit pack of 52 playing cards, we are shown how these can be purposed to spiritual or fortune-telling ends. The relationships of the cards to astronomic phenomena - the movements of the planets, moon and sun - are elaborated upon. The author was part of a secret order who made it known that his writing services were required; thus, obscure and esoteric knowledge of the cards fortuitously found its way into the Mystic Test Book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The publication of this work was, we might say, forced upon us by the demand, before even a page of manuscript was prepared for the press. The demand was caused by members of the Temple, who recognized the necessity of a printed text book, from which they could study the meanings of the cards and their indications under the seven planets. These brothers and sisters naturally wished to perfect themselves in emblem reading as rapidly as possible, and they could not so perfect themselves, without a full and complete set of tables that they could study and refer to at will. The next trouble that arose was the question of expense, as, aside from the printing, engraving, binding, electrotyping and matters of that kind, the author's time was, and is now so valuable that the item far overbalances those mentioned. It was finally decided that the most feasible plan, was to get out enough copies to supply more than our immediate membership and to sell them to outsiders under certain restrictions.

This book was released on 2016-06-18 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the INTRODUCTION. The publication of this work was, we might say, forced upon us by the demand, before even a page of manuscript was prepared for the press. We only intended, at first, to get out a book of about one hundred and sixty pages to be bound in cloth. But the generous subscriptions forwarded to us caused us to change our mind and we began writing additional copy. We are so occupied with Temple work, that this extra labor, together with superintending the publication and proof reading, has caused considerable delay beyond the time first set. We are sorry for this, but it could not well be avoided. Please remember, friends, that the price charged for this book is not for the size nor the binding, nor the number of pages, but for the matter itself. The emblem delineation department is alone worth more than the price charged for the entire work. We have placed much other information in the book in addition to the tables of readings, in order to compensate our kind friends for the patient waiting and the numerous subscriptions they have procured for us. We certainly undertook the work at a time when the conditions were extremely unfavorable. We have been overrun with work in the Grand Temple, and down town shops engaged in the lines connected with book making are all full of World's Fair work. At last we have overcome the obstacles and here is the book which we hope will please you.

Book The Image of the City

Download or read book The Image of the City written by Kevin Lynch and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1964-06-15 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic work on the evaluation of city form. What does the city's form actually mean to the people who live there? What can the city planner do to make the city's image more vivid and memorable to the city dweller? To answer these questions, Mr. Lynch, supported by studies of Los Angeles, Boston, and Jersey City, formulates a new criterion—imageability—and shows its potential value as a guide for the building and rebuilding of cities. The wide scope of this study leads to an original and vital method for the evaluation of city form. The architect, the planner, and certainly the city dweller will all want to read this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since precious few architectural drawings and no theoretical treatises on architecture remain from the premodern Islamic world, the Timurid pattern scroll in the collection of the Topkapi Palace Museum Library is an exceedingly rich and valuable source of information. In the course of her in-depth analysis of this scroll dating from the late fifteenth or early sixteenth century, Gülru Necipoğlu throws new light on the conceptualization, recording, and transmission of architectural design in the Islamic world between the tenth and sixteenth centuries. Her text has particularly far-reaching implications for recent discussions on vision, subjectivity, and the semiotics of abstract representation. She also compares the Islamic understanding of geometry with that found in medieval Western art, making this book particularly valuable for all historians and critics of architecture. The scroll, with its 114 individual geometric patterns for wall surfaces and vaulting, is reproduced entirely in color in this elegant, large-format volume. An extensive catalogue includes illustrations showing the underlying geometries (in the form of incised “dead” drawings) from which the individual patterns are generated. An essay by Mohammad al-Asad discusses the geometry of the muqarnas and demonstrates by means of CAD drawings how one of the scroll’s patterns could be used co design a three-dimensional vault.

Book Meditations on the Tarot

Download or read book Meditations on the Tarot written by and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2005-08-25 with total page 688 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in a fully corrected edition, one of the true spiritual classics of the twentieth century. Published for the first time with an index and Cardinal Hans Urs von Balthasar’s afterword, this new English publication of Meditations on the Tarot is the landmark edition of one of the most important works of esoteric Christianity. Written anonymously and published posthumously, as was the author’s wish, the intention of this work is for the reader to find a relationship with the author in the spiritual dimensions of existence. The author wanted not to be thought of as a personality who lived from 1900 to 1973, but as a friend who is communicating with us from beyond the boundaries of ordinary life. Using the 22 major arcana of the tarot deck as a means to explore some of humanity’s most penetrating spiritual questions, Meditations on the Tarot has attracted an unprecedented range of praise from across the spiritual spectrum.
