Book excerpt: Introducing "The Mystic Agency," a spellbinding journey into a world where ancient myths entwine with the modern-day, promising a tale of intrigue, magic, and enigmatic secrets. At the dawn of India's independence, Mr. Venkateshwar Subramaniam encounters Draupadi, a woman with an extraordinary ability - she can see and converse with ghosts. But this is no ordinary meeting, and his agency is far from ordinary too; it specializes in the supernatural. Their first mission: a quest to locate the missing Soul Reaper of Lord Yama. Why Draupadi, you ask? Her unique gift holds the key to unlocking the mysteries that bridge the realms of the living and the dead. As she dives headfirst into this enigmatic case, she takes on the role of a manager in Mr. Bhattacharya's household, forging an unexpected bond with his widowed daughter-in-law, Sati. But that's just the beginning. The agency entrusts Draupadi with another task: the search for a person without a shadow. Meanwhile, the fates of two sisters intersect with the arrival of a stranger who is not what he seems – an immortal being with an agenda of his own. As these two seemingly unrelated stories unfold, the web of connections deepens. Uncover the true intentions of Mr. Venkateshwar Subramaniam in hiring Draupadi, the significance of the shadowless person, and the shocking revelation of Mr. Venkateshwar's real identity. The questions pile up: Why can Draupadi, a mere mortal, perceive the world of spirits? How do these diverse threads intertwine? The answers lie within the pages of "The Mystic Agency," the mesmerizing prequel to the original "Mystic Lawfirm". Prepare to be captivated as Indian mythology weaves itself into contemporary settings, where the immortal and the mortal collide in a dance of intrigue and mystique. Unravel the secrets, unlock the magic, and delve deep into the heart of "The Mystic Agency."

Book Mystic Moderns

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mystic Moderns examines the responses of three British authors—Evelyn Underhill (1875–1941), May Sinclair (1863–1946), and Mary Webb (1881–1927)—to the emerging modernity of the long early twentieth-century moment encompassing the First World War. As they explored divergent but overlapping understandings of what mystical experience might be, these authors rejected claims that modernity’s celebration of the secular and rational left no place for the mystical; rather, they countered, sensitivity to a greater reality could both establish and validate personal agency, and was integral to their identities as modern women. Their preoccupations with the dynamism of human connection drew on prevailing ideas of “vital energy” or “life force” developed by Arthur Schopenhauer and Henri Bergson in ways that channeled modernity’s erotic energy of change. By using their fiction to describe new, self-authenticating forms of mysticism separate from either the prevailing orthodoxy of establishment Christianity or the extreme heterodoxy of their era’s enthusiasm for paranormal experimentation, they also contributed to the rise of a generic concept of “spirituality.” Mystic Moderns thus offers historical perspective on contemporary claims for self-constructed, non-institutional spiritual experience associated with the claim “I’m spiritual, not religious.” Working as they did within the shadow of the First World War, Underhill, Sinclair, and Webb were, in the end, attempting to determine what might be of authentic value for a modern age marked by ubiquitous death. While not themselves utopian authors, each was touched by her era’s complicated hunger for the best of all possible worlds. Their constructions of how an individual should be and act in the midst of modernity thus simultaneously projected visions of what that modernity itself should become.

Book Electoral Dysfunction

Download or read book Electoral Dysfunction written by Victoria Bassetti and published by New Press, The. This book was released on 2012-09-04 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine a country where the right to vote is not guaranteed by the Constitution, where the candidate with the most votes loses, and where paperwork requirements and bureaucratic bungling disenfranchise millions. You're living in it. If the consequences weren't so serious, it would be funny. A concise handbook designed as a fact-filled companion to the forthcoming PBS documentary starring political satirist and commentator Mo Rocca, Electoral Dysfunction illuminates a broad array of issues, including: the Founding Fathers' decision to omit the right to vote from the Constitution—and the legal system's patchwork response to this omission; the battle over voter ID, voter impersonation, and voter fraud; the foul-ups that plague Election Day, from ballot design to contested recounts; the role of partisan officials in running elections; and the antidemocratic origins and impact of the Electoral College. The book concludes with a prescription for a healthy voting system crafted by leading voting-reform experts, whose agenda for change includes a call for universal voter registration and unform national standards. Published in the run-up to the 2012 election, Electoral Dysfunction is for readers across the political spectrum who want their vote to count.

Book The Letters of an Unexpected Mystic

Download or read book The Letters of an Unexpected Mystic written by Robert D. Flanagan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-07-20 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostle Peter is a pillar of the church whose writing has been overlooked until recently when scholarship remedied this gap, significantly elevating Peter’s letters. However, one critical area has been omitted. Within the Petrine writing is a robust, empowered, and beautiful mystical theology, which makes Peter an unexpected but vital Christian mystic. In exploring his love of artwork, German theologian and priest Romano Guardini developed the Threefold Seeing, which has been brought to light by Yvonne Dohna Schlobitten of the Pontificate Gregorian University. His unique method of viewing the artist, artwork, and observer develops a way of encountering the world and word. Instead of looking at the world or the biblical text through separate vantage points, the Threefold Seeing integrates all disciplines under greater view of God, the artist of all creation. The Letters of an Unexpected Mystic employs Guardini’s Threefold Seeing to encounter the mystic Peter and the Petrine mystical theology. The result is a book that provides its readers with a means to become the Christian Karl Rahner wrote about in 1971: “The devout Christian of the future will either be a ‘mystic,’ one who has ‘experienced’ something, or he will cease to be anything at all.”
