Book The Mysteries of Allah and His Muhammad

Download or read book The Mysteries of Allah and His Muhammad written by Fatai Badmos and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2016-12-02 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Mysteries of Allah and His Muhammad is indeed a scanty summary of a potentially great debate. However unwieldy or incomprehensible the actual details may be, certain contexts of the whole or part can always be identified for discussion. In the physique of mankind, Allah manifests. He does so on nature glaringly, just as is inferred from various sections of the book. Whilst He does, the divinity of a being “not more than a prophet” is also undoubtedly established. That co-joining of the One and Only Creator and a creation (a man, Muhammad), who coincidentally is most positively and negatively controversial, should interest those who consider man to be the meanest of God’s creations. That we may not discount knowledge of any sort, even that considered most sacrilegious (science), God’s inspiration to a mortal being (Muhammad) corroborates too many ideas put forth by scientists or intellectuals’ discoveries and postulations. What a mystery that the lightbulb, which in theory and description was already encoded in the Quran more than a thousand years ago, before one bulb ever rolled out in a factory! Only simple minds take things for granted and give no thought to the grandiose schemes of our world and its elements. This book serves as a jolt to those who oversimplify “what is” or the mysterious.

Book Islam and the Fate of Others

Download or read book Islam and the Fate of Others written by Mohammad Hassan Khalil and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-05-03 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can non-Muslims be saved? And can those who are damned to Hell ever be redeemed? In Islam and the Fate of Others, Mohammad Hassan Khalil examines the writings of influential medieval and modern Muslim scholars on the controversial and consequential question of non-Muslim salvation. This is an illuminating study of four of the most prominent figures in the history of Islam: Ghazali, Ibn 'Arabi, Ibn Taymiyya, and Rashid Rida. Khalil demonstrates that though these paradigmatic figures tended to affirm the superiority of the Islamic message, they also envisioned a God of mercy and justice and a Paradise populated by Muslims and non-Muslims. Islam and the Fate of Others reveals that these theologians' interpretations of the Qur'an and hadith corpus-from optimistic depictions of Judgment Day to notions of a temporal Hell and salvation for all-challenge widespread assumptions about Islamic scripture and thought. Along the way, Khalil examines the writings of many other important writers, such as Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, Mulla Sadra, Shah Wali Allah of Delhi, Muhammad Ali of Lahore, James Robson, Sayyid Qutb, Yusuf al-Qaradawi, Farid Esack, Reza Shah-Kazemi, T. J. Winter, and Muhammad Legenhausen. Islam and the Fate of Others is both timely and overdue.

In this three-volume study, illustrated with charts and maps, Hodgson traces and interprets the historical development of Islamic civilization from before the birth of Muhammad to the middle of the twentieth century. This work grew out of the famous course on Islamic civilization that Hodgson created and taught for many years at the University of Chicago. In the second work of this three-volume set, Hodgson investigates the establishment of an international Islamic civilization through about 1500. This includes a theoretical discussion of cultural patterning in the Islamic world and the Occident. "This is a nonpareil work, not only because of its command of its subject but also because it demonstrates how, ideally, history should be written."—The New Yorker

  • Author : Lesley Hazleton

  • Release : 2013
  • ISBN : 1594487286
  • Pages : 338 pages

Download or read book The First Muslim written by Lesley Hazleton and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2013 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Muhammad's was a life of almost unparalleled historical importance; yet for all the iconic power of his name, the intensely dramatic story of the prophet of Islam is not well known. In The First Muslim, Lesley Hazleton brings him vibrantly to life. Drawing on early eyewitness sources and on history, politics, religion, and psychology, she renders him as a man in full, in all his complexity and vitality. Hazleton's account follows the arc of Muhammad's rise from powerlessness to power, from anonymity to renown, from insignificance to lasting significance. How did a child shunted to the margins end up revolutionizing his world? How did a merchant come to challenge the established order with a new vision of social justice? How did the pariah hounded out of Mecca turn exile into a new and victorious beginning? How did the outsider become the ultimate insider?

Book The Mystics of Islam

Download or read book The Mystics of Islam written by Reynold A. Nicholson and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-24 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sūfism, the religious philosophy of Islam, is described in the oldest extant definition as 'the apprehension of divine realities,' and Mohammedan mystics are fond of calling themselves Ahl al-Haqq, 'the followers of the Real.' In attempting to set forth their central doctrines from this point of view, the author draws to some extent on materials which he has collected for a history of Islamic mysticism. This edition provides an easy approach to the study of Islamic mysticism. Apart what the general reader requires to be told at first about Sūfism; the book includes a large amount of material that will be new even to professional Orientalists. Dr. Nicholson sets before us the results of twenty years' unremitting labour, and that, too, with remarkable simplicity and clarity for such a subject; at the same time he lets the mystics mostly speak for themselves and mainly in his own fine versions from the original Arabic and Persian.

Book excerpt: The theological and political claims of Islam rest squarely on history. Islam will ultimately be victorious, so we are told, because modern Muslims are the direct heirs of a glorious vision for humanity mapped out by Muhammad, and those who conquered the great empires of Late Antiquity following him as their 'excellent example' (Qur'an 33:21) A lot will, therefore, depend on whether the history that is so deeply inspiring to the followers of Islam came down to us in an accurate and reliable way.If it can be proved that it did not, the entire Islamic theological edifice can be called into question. In his latest book Peter Townsend (author of 'Questioning Islam' and 'Nothing to do with Islam?') goes right back to the earliest years of the Muslim faith to ask some questions that are routinely ignored by those who are content to simply repeat the same old 'certainties' of standard Islamic history. The result of this research, drawing on the work of scholars from a wide range of disciplines, is a profile of the birth of Islam that is fresh, surprising and sometimes shocking.Journeying to 7th century Arabia with Townsend as your guide will cause you to look at Islam, its truth-claims and its place in the world with new eyes.

Book The Qur an

  • Release : 2008-03-18
  • ISBN : 1555849288

Download or read book The Qur an written by Bruce Lawrence and published by Grove/Atlantic, Inc.. This book was released on 2008-03-18 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A “timely and provocative” biography of Islam’s foundational text: “The history of the book is a map of the world we live in today” (Tribune-Review). Few books in history have been as poorly understood as the Qur’an. Sent down in a series of revelations to the Prophet Muhammad, the Qur’an is the unmediated word of Allah: a ritual, political, and legal authority; an ethical and spiritual guide; and a literary masterpiece that inspires devotion, passion, fear, and sometimes incomprehension. In The Qur’an, historian and Islamic Studies professor Bruce Lawrence shows precisely how the Qur’an is the embodiment of Islam. He describes the origins of the faith in seventh-century Arabia and explains why the Qur’an is memorized and recited by devout Muslims. Lawrence also discusses the Qur’an’s commentators and doubters and assesses its tremendous influence on today’s societies and politics. Above all, Lawrence emphasizes that the Qur’an is a sacred book of signs that cannot be reduced to a single, obvious message. It is a book that demands interpretation and one that can be properly understood only through its long and storied history. “An important work for those seeking to understand—and defend—Islam.” —Kirkus Reviews

This book is a sympathetic study and appreciation of the high ideals and motives of Mohammed and his followers, and consists of four parts: a description of Moslem life in town and village, some reflections and observations in the mosques, a book on the great feasts and festivals, and, finally, the great questions of Islam as interpreted through the Moslems themselves.
