The Holy Spirit empowers us, guides us, and enables us to grow and endure in our relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ. Often the most misunderstood member of the Trinity, the person of the Spirit continues to attract attention today amidst church revivals and renewals. In this new edition of his classic Keep in Step with the Spirit, J. I. Packer seeks to help Christians reaffirm the biblical call to holiness and the Spirit s role in keeping our covenant with God. Packer guides us through the riches and depth of the Spirit s work, assesses versions of holiness and the charismatic life, and shows how Christ must always be at the centre of true Spirit-led ministry. A new chapter explores Christian assurance. With abiding relevance and significance, Keep in Step with the Spirit sets forth vital knowledge for healthy and joyous Christian living, through understanding and experience of God the Holy Spirit. Here is a book for every serious believer to read and re-read.

Book The Movement of the Holy Spirit

Download or read book The Movement of the Holy Spirit written by Dr. Coffia M. Rose and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2021-03-29 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of creation, man and woman are created as two spiritual beings. However, sin came into the world and exposed the nakedness of man. Evil and wickedness have now become a part of man’s nature. The serpent that tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden was known to be the devil. However, he came under disguise then exposed the forbidden fruit when he tempted Eve. Eve failed in the temptation, which exposed man to his sinful nature. Although we are living in a physical world, there is spiritual wickedness that keeps taking place without the natural man’s understanding. Almost every day, there’s violence, killing, and all kind of evil that continues to plague the earth. This is why the scripture tells the readers, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Eph. 6:12, KJV). However, the word of God gave the believers some spiritual weapons to counter the devil’s wicked devices, such as the helmet of salvation, the sword of the spirit, the breastplate of righteousness, the gospel of peace, and the shield of faith (Eph. 6:14–17). This is why the word of God, the Holy Spirit, is our protection.

Book I Believe in the Holy Spirit

Download or read book I Believe in the Holy Spirit written by Michael Green and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2023-09-28 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do we understand the Holy Spirit? Though countless Christians through the ages have confessed “I believe in the Holy Spirit,” the Spirit has often remained an elusive figure, relegated to the fringes of many Christians’ faith. Yet the charismatic movement made the Holy Spirit the focus of heated controversy. In this second edition of his widely popular book, Michael Green explains the biblically rooted doctrine of the Holy Spirit. He also discusses baptism and the gifts of the Spirit and addresses the dynamic, ongoing work of the Spirit today. Enriched by Green’s extensive pastoral and personal experience, I Believe in the Holy Spirit remains one of the most readable and balanced books on the third person of the Trinity.

Book The Holy Spirit as Person and Power

Download or read book The Holy Spirit as Person and Power written by Rob Yule and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-01-10 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In just over one hundred years, the Pentecostal-charismatic movement has transformed world Christianity. Noted for their rediscovery of spiritual gifts and commitment to world evangelization, 700 million Pentecostals and charismatics now account for more than 27 percent of the global Christian movement. The Pentecostal-charismatic movement has been more noted for its activism than for theological reflection. But this may be changing. The Holy Spirit as Person and Power challenges traditional theology to take account of what has been disclosed in the dynamism and variety of charismatic experience. The author is a theologically trained practitioner, impacted in midlife by a transforming experience of the Holy Spirit. He has been a hands-on leader in the renewal movement. Now, in his later years, he reflects on the meaning of the grace imparted to the church by the renewing activity of God's Spirit. This is not the work of an enthusiast claiming a new revelation. Rather, the author draws attention to many nuances in the Bible's description of the Spirit that have been overlooked in traditional pneumatology. By relating these insights to Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, and evangelical theology, he has produced a book with ecumenical implications for all branches of world Christianity.

Book excerpt: In August 1986, Alice Auma, a young Acholi woman in northern Uganda, proclaiming herself under the orders of a Christian spirit named Lakwena, raised an army called the “Holy Spirit Mobile Forces.” With it she waged a war against perceived evil, not only an external enemy represented by the National Resistance Army of the government, but internal enemies in the form of “impure” soldiers, witches, and sorcerers. She came very close to her goal of overthrowing the government but was defeated and fled to Kenya. This book provides a unique view of Alice’s movement, based on interviews with its members and including their own writings, examining their perceptions of the threat of external and internal evil. It concludes with an account of the successor movements into which Alice’s forces fragmented and which still are active in the civil wars of the Sudan and Uganda.
