During the war the organisation planned and executed thousands of covert operations behind enemy lines from North Africa to Europe to Asia. This publication reproduces the OSS' 1943 Morale Operations Field Manual. It describes the techniques used by OSS to damage the enemy's morale. Today we'd call it "Psychological Operations". This is near-perfect reproduction of the original publication with all wartime classification markings intact. With the originals all but extinct outside the US National Archives' OSS collection, this series is a must-have for any military scholar or for special operations or intelligence community personnel wishing to honor their heritage. The titles available in this series include: Special Operations Field Manual Operational Groups Field Manual Simple Sabotage Field Manual Secret Intelligence Field Manual Morale Operations Field Manual Maritime Unit Field Manual

Download or read book United States Army Third Infantry Division Directorate of Morale Welfare and Recreation written by Michael D. Hughes and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-11-22 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective in this work was to analyze the structure and organization in the operations of a military organization that supports one of the greatest Divisions of the United States Army, the 3rd Infantry Division. The history of Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division as it relates to civilians employees, soldiers, family members and the Ft Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield Community. Morale, Welfare, and Recreation history started on the battlefields of World War 1 were Salvation Army sisters and Red Cross volunteers ministered to the needs of soldiers. The focus of this work provided administrative aspects of public administration and its effects on military success. On October 18th, 2007 Chief of Staff of the Army General George W. Casey Jr, and Secretary of the Army Pete Green signed and unveiled the Army Family Covenant pledging to support its soldiers and families, and active guard and reserve organizations with funding programs to deliver a quality of life commensurate with their service and sacrifices to the nation. It is this commitment that propelled and motivates this organization. The Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation exists because the United States Army states it is committed to the wellbeing of the community of people who serve and stand ready to defend the nation and enhance the lives of soldiers, their families, civilian employees and military retirees. In all organizations there will be transition, changes and improvements within their environments I hope with this work I have opened the minds and hearts of those brave men and women who love the military and the United States of America. With god on our side who can defeat us.

Book excerpt: “Surprising and remarkable…Toggling between big ideas, technical details, and his personal intellectual journey, Greene writes a thesis suitable to both airplane reading and PhD seminars.”—The Boston Globe Our brains were designed for tribal life, for getting along with a select group of others (Us) and for fighting off everyone else (Them). But modern times have forced the world’s tribes into a shared space, resulting in epic clashes of values along with unprecedented opportunities. As the world shrinks, the moral lines that divide us become more salient and more puzzling. We fight over everything from tax codes to gay marriage to global warming, and we wonder where, if at all, we can find our common ground. A grand synthesis of neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy, Moral Tribes reveals the underlying causes of modern conflict and lights the way forward. Greene compares the human brain to a dual-mode camera, with point-and-shoot automatic settings (“portrait,” “landscape”) as well as a manual mode. Our point-and-shoot settings are our emotions—efficient, automated programs honed by evolution, culture, and personal experience. The brain’s manual mode is its capacity for deliberate reasoning, which makes our thinking flexible. Point-and-shoot emotions make us social animals, turning Me into Us. But they also make us tribal animals, turning Us against Them. Our tribal emotions make us fight—sometimes with bombs, sometimes with words—often with life-and-death stakes. A major achievement from a rising star in a new scientific field, Moral Tribes will refashion your deepest beliefs about how moral thinking works and how it can work better.

Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1979, is an analysis of the wartime Ministry of Information, responsible for the maintenance of public morale. How was it that British morale remained high, yet the department responsible was so bad? This book examines the domestic work of the Ministry and offers an unprecedented insight into the mind of both government and people during the war. It answers key questions: How did a government department assess and set about maintaining morale? How did it handle the social and political questions associated with morale – post-war social reform, press freedom and censorship, the nature of the Soviet regime? How sound in fact was civilian morale, on the basis of the secret Wartime Intelligence reports then available? One of the most fascinating aspects of this book is the Ministry’s constant internal debate on how its responsibilities should best be carried out. It is a key work of research on the political, psychological and mass communications problems facing a society at war.
