Book The Montessori Method and the American School Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Montessori Method and the American School Classic Reprint written by Florence Elizabeth Ward and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Montessori Method and the American School The Montessori Method has been given so much publicity by the American press that its peculiarities have become quite generally known, and one who attempts to describe them further is in danger of repetition. It is my aim, however, simply to offer to those who have a practical interest in its intimate details some of the impressions received through an investigation of the Method at first hand, as well as some results of experiments made among children with whom I work daily at the Iowa State Teachers College. The talks herein published are the substance of discussions conducted with classes, following my return from Rome. It is not their purpose to crystallize attention upon some one feature of the equipment or upon some one element of the method, but rather to promote the study of the principles underlying the entire equipment and the entire method. All pedagogical history proves that reforms in education develop slowly. It would be a curious anomaly if the Children's House did not conform to this law of evolution. Its best friends are those who willingly submit it to the comparisons possible because of work done in the exceptionally good home, good kindergarten and good primary school of to-day, and to the tests that the psychological laboratories are urging for all educational procedure. Book The Montessori Method and the Kindergarten Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Montessori Method and the Kindergarten Classic Reprint written by Elizabeth Harrison and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-25 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Montessori Method and the Kindergarten Any estimate of Madame Montessori's work, to be of practical value to the mother or teacher, will necessarily involve a comparison between the Montessori method and that Of the kindergarten, since the kindergarten is the only system of organized educational work for young children that has so far received general recognition. It is important to remind ourselves, however, that the welfare of the little child is Of far more significance than the mere settlement of rival claims between the kindergarten and Montessori. Only by taking this larger view of the subject can we come to any just or satisfactory estimate of Dr. Montessori's education of young chil dren, and that will'be the chief consideration in this bulletin rather than an extended account Of her psychological view, which is not new. It will be necessary to show, however, how the latter has shaped the former. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Kindergarten and the Montessori Method

Download or read book The Kindergarten and the Montessori Method written by Martha Maclear and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Kindergarten and the Montessori Method: An Attempt at Synthesis Dear Madam: - Yesterday I had practically all of your entire manuscript, "The Kindergarten and the Montessori Method," read aloud to me. I liked both the style and the matter very much. You certainly have a very happy, fluent and lucid way of expressing your ideas, and naturally the conception of bringing together the ideas of Froebel, Montessori and genetic psychology and experimental psychology struck me as a desideratum I had long been waiting to see. I regret to say that as I have mislaid your first letter I do not recall with certainty exactly what you expected of me in sending your manuscript. If it was to get my reaction to it, you have it above. If it was to have it printed in my journal, I regret to say that it is much too long and a little outside the field my journal is coming more and more to commit itself to. As to chances of publication for the kindergarten article, in book form, I am afraid my opinion would not be worth very much. I think the effect of the present war is depressing upon all publications and tends to make houses more careful. Book The Montessori Method

  • Author : Maria Montessori
  • Publisher : Transaction Publishers
  • Release : 2013-10-01
  • ISBN : 141285282X
  • Pages : 427 pages

Download or read book The Montessori Method written by Maria Montessori and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maria Montessori's method of educating children, which she details in this book, is based on a conception of liberty for the pupil; it entails formal training of separate sensory, motor, and mental capacities; and leads to rapid and substantial mastery of the elements of reading, writing, and arithmetic. The Montessori Method is important because it springs from a combination of sympathy and intuition, social outlook, scientific training, intensive study of educational problems and the author's unusual experience as a teacher and educational leader. Following opening statements from J. McV. Hunt and Jaan Valsiner, Maria Montessori discusses topics including pedagogical methods used in the children's houses, discipline, diet, gymnastics, manual labor, education of the senses, intellectual education, methods of teaching reading and writing, language in childhood, and teaching of numeration. This classic volume in the education of children takes on urgent relevance for parents, teachers, and administrators in all parts of our society. The suburban mother seeking an environment of "structured freedom" for an imaginative, quick-learning pre-schooler; the educator jolted into awareness that slum children are irreparably handicapped by cultural impoverishment before the age of six; explorers of "new" techniques of teaching reading, of programmed instruction and learning by conditioning and reinforcement-by-approval--all these are instructed by Maria Montessori's theory and the reports of her work in the Casa dei Bambini in the slum quarter of Rome.

Book The Montessori Principles and Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Montessori Principles and Practice Classic Reprint written by E. P. Culverwell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Montessori Principles and Practice Plato did a great disservice to humanity when, by banishing from geometry. All instruments save the ruler and compass, he crystallised a new distinction between the real and the ideal, between the practical and the intellectual life. In this he was but following, in his own aristocratic way, the highest conceptions of the Greek mind - for the Greeks were a slave owning race. Thus arose the unhappy divorce between thought and action, between liberal knowledge and useful knowledge, which has always, sooner or later, sapped the vitality of thought itself. And although the renaissances of European thought have in every case been due to the influence of the Greek writings, inspiring great minds with the Greek passion for the exercise of the pure intellect, yet they have always occurred in connection with an intense interest in the actual problems of life. And even in the Universities them selves, in proportion as that interest has declined, and the curriculum has been given a purely disciplinary character, there also thought has lost its vitality.
