Download or read book Dwarf Galaxies Keys to Galaxy Formation and Evolution written by Polychronis Papaderos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-04-23 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dwarf galaxy research constitutes an extremely vibrant field of astrophysical research, with many long-standing questions still unsettled and new ones constantly arising. The intriguing diversity of the dwarf galaxy population, observed with advanced ground-based and space-borne observatories over a wide spectral window providing an unprecedented level of detail, poses new challenges for both observers and theoreticians. The aim of this symposium was to bring together these two groups to exchange ideas and new results on the many evolutionary aspects of and open issues concerning dwarf galaxies. The main topics addressed include: the birth of dwarf galaxies: theoretical concepts and observable relics across wavelengths and time, the morphological, structural and chemical evolution of dwarf galaxies, possible evolutionary connections between early-type and late-type dwarfs, the star formation history of dwarf galaxies and its dependence on intrinsic and environmental properties, the origin and implications of starburst activity in dwarf galaxies, the fate of dwarfish systems born out of tidally ejected matter in galaxy collisions.

Download or read book Gas and Galaxy Evolution written by John Eugene Hibbard and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 960 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Papers from a May 2000 conference explore the role of gas in galaxy evolution, starting with the early universe, continuing through recombination, galaxy formation, and re-ionization, and ending with the local universe. Emphasis is on the interplay between galaxies and their environment, with examination of questions surrounding residual gas signatures of the formation process around galaxies, the possibility of galaxy evolution along the Hubble sequence, and lessons to be learned about the history and fate of galaxies from the structures of their gaseous envelopes. The book includes some 200 H1 and optical images of optically weird galaxies, and of optically normal galaxies with weird H1. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documen tation ofthe literatme concerning all aspects of astronomy, astrophysics, and their border fields. lt is devoted to the recording, summarizing, and indexing of the relevant publications throughout the world. Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts is prepared by a special department of the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union. Volume 40 records literatme published in 1985 and received before February 15, 1986. Some older documents which we received late and which arenot surveyed in earlier volumes are included too. We acknowledge with thanks contributions of our colleagues all over the world. We also express our gratitude to all organiza tions, observatories, and publishers which provide us with complimentary copies of their publications. Starting with Volume 33, all the recording, correction, and data processing work was dorre by means of computers. The recording was dorre by om technical staff members Ms. Helga Ballmann, Ms. Mona El-Choura (t), Ms. Monika Kohl, Ms. Sylvia Matyssek. Ms. Karirr Burkhardt, Ms. Susanne Schlötelbmg, Mr. Mar tin Schlötelburg, and Mr. Stefan Wagner supported om task by careful proof reading. lt is a pleasure to thank them all for their encomagement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book recounts results obtained via the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) on comets, in the close environment of pre-main sequence stars, in the interstellar medium, and in the final stages of stellar life, using molecular hydrogen, ubiquitous crystalline silicates, water and ices. ISO has enabled investigation of the fuelling mechanism of galaxies, and new understanding of luminous infrared galaxies and their role in shaping present galaxies and in producing the cosmic infrared background.
