Book The Modeling of Homogeneous Condensation in Free expanding Plumes with the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method

Download or read book The Modeling of Homogeneous Condensation in Free expanding Plumes with the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method written by Jiaqiang Zhong and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method is considered as the main tool in this work for the numerical modeling of homogeneous condensation in free-expanding plumes. To simulate condensation flow, we must address the processes of cluster nucleation, growth, decay and collisions with other clusters and monomers as well as the gas kinetics. Therefore, microscopic models including nucleation, sticking and non-sticking collision, and evaporation models need to be specifically developed and integrated into the traditional DSMC code to simulate condensation behavior in this work.

Book Accuracy Analysis for Kinetic Modeling of Homogeneous Condensation in Plumes

Download or read book Accuracy Analysis for Kinetic Modeling of Homogeneous Condensation in Plumes written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A model of homogeneneous nucleation based on first principles of the kinetic theory of gases, and developed for the direct simulation Monte Carlo method, is presented. Key parameters of the model, such as the binding energy and the heat capacity as function of cluster size, are given for argon and water. For water, two datasets are used, one based on quantum calculations of heat capacity and binding energy available in the literature, and the other based on the present molecular dynamics computations. The model is analyzed using the thermal bath relaxation problem, and applied to compute the water dimer terminal mole fractions in circular orifice expansion.

Book A Study Into Validating a Coupled Method of Characteristics and Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method Against Empirical Data

Download or read book A Study Into Validating a Coupled Method of Characteristics and Direct Simulation Monte Carlo Method Against Empirical Data written by Andrew D. Brown and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The following will outline the methodology and results of validating a coupled Method of Characteristics (MOC) and Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. This research focused specifically on modeling plume impingement, induced by Reaction Control System (RCS) thrusters that flew on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA’s) space shuttle Discovery. For each simulation, the continuum portion of the RCS thruster was simulated using MOC for solving hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) and computed with the NASA code, Reacting and Multi-phase Program (RAMP). The solution was then implemented as a starting condition into the NASA DSMC code, Direct Simulation and Monte Carlo Analysis Code (DAC). Typically, DSMC models rely on code-to-code validation for fidelity.
