Book The Mission of Adventist Healthcare

Download or read book The Mission of Adventist Healthcare written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beginning in December 1991, and concluding in December of 1996, Adventist healthcare leaders and Adventist church leaders have met annually to discuss a broad range of healthcare issues of mutual interest. HealthCare in the United States has changed so rapidly over the past number of years that it was important for this group to reassess why the Seventh-day Adventist Church continues to operate acute-care hospitals. Dr. Leland Kaiser served as facilitator during five of the six sessions. Before the final session in December of 1996, Dr. Roy Naden drafted a working document and than served as facilitator during the conference. The Naples Committee worked with him to summarize the thinking of the group and to bring the conference to a close. This document contains the result of the conference on: Defining and fulfilling the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist healthcare institutions in North America in the twenty-first century.

Book Holding on to What Is Sacred

Download or read book Holding on to What Is Sacred written by Randy Haffner and published by Florida Hospital Publishing. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Holding on to What is Sacred," written by Dr. Randy Haffner, lays out a persuasive visionfor how organizations can stay focused on their true values. The most intriguing aspect of the monograph is Dr. Haffner¿s concept of Confessional Identity. It seeks the spiritual heart of an organization¿s reason for being. Why? Because so much is at stake. Your employees need to know why you exist and why their efforts matter. Your customers need to know why you really care. Your leaders need to embrace your core convictions whole-heartedly or they will lose direction.

Book A Thousand Miracles Every Day

Download or read book A Thousand Miracles Every Day written by Jane Allen Quevedo and published by Teach Services. This book was released on 2003 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Thousand Miracles Every Day records some of the human-interest stories related to the development of Adventist hospitals from the late 1800s to the beginning of the 21st century. It chronicles the vision, sacrifice, dedication and overriding hand of divine providence in their histories. As a ministry, Adventist health care must always recognize its place in God's plan to care for those who are sick and hurting. In this context it continues to be a story of miracles--more than a thousand every day.

Book Adventist Heritage of Health Hope and Healing

Download or read book Adventist Heritage of Health Hope and Healing written by William C. Andress and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In mid-1800s America, in a milieu where thousands were dying prematurely from tuberculosis, dysentery, yellow fever, cholera, diphtheria, smallpox, and even malaria, God raised up a people with a salvific message, both physically and spiritually. In Adventist Heritage of Health, Hope, and Healing, readers will be spellbound by stories of: The fledgling Western Health Reform Institute which became the largest health care institute of its kind. The $5,000 miracle that led to the founding of Loma Linda University Medical Center, one of the nation's premier medical facilities in southern California. The China Doctor, Grandma Whitney, and the humble academician with three doctorate degrees, who have influenced thousands through an integration of practical religion and health. The prophetic Comprehensive Health Vision that outlines a 10-step program for adding years to your life. In this book, Dr. Andress explores little known historical connections that coalesce into a persuasive case for a Christian theology of healing and wellness. Throughout the book, personal anecdotes and illustrations provide a vivid and tangible portrait of a man seeking to better understand and live out the divine plan for health of body, mind, and soul. A compelling work.--John Wesley Taylor V, Ph.D Professor of education, philosophy, and research, Southern Adventist University If 'The health should be as sacredly guarded as the character' (Child Guidance, page 342), then this volume is as valuable as any work in theology. It is the heritage of all God's children to be healthy.--Arthur Mallon, teacher, author, and evangelist

Book Three Adventist Titans

Download or read book Three Adventist Titans written by Albert Dittes and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2013 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, Seventh-day Adventists are known for their healthcare institutions and their work in the field of medicine, but it wasn't always that way. In the late 1800s and early 1900s the Adventist Church was still in its infancy, and the medical work was just getting started. As with the introduction of anything new, there were bumps in the road as the church embarked on the work of obeying the divine instruction to combine taking care of physical needs with gospel proclamation. But did the way need to be so rough? Three Adventist Titans: The significance of heeding or rejecting the counsel of Ellen White examines the lives of three prominent Adventist leaders-John Harvey Kellogg, physician at the Battle Creek Sanitarium; Arthur G. Daniells, president of the General Conference; and Percy Magan, founder of Madison College and later president of the College of Medical Evangelists-who each played an important role in founding the medical and evangelical work of the church. The book provides an in-depth look at the lives of these three men, their work in the church, their personal communication with Ellen White, their regard for the counsel of the Spirit of Prophecy, and their adherence or rejection of that counsel.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2012, Barack Obama became the first U.S. president ever to visit Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. This official state visit marked a new period in the long and sinuous diplomatic relationship between the United States and Burma/Myanmar, which Kenton Clymer examines in A Delicate Relationship. From the challenges of decolonization and heightened nationalist activities that emerged in the wake of World War II to the Cold War concern with domino states to the rise of human rights policy in the 1980s and beyond, Clymer demonstrates how Burma/Myanmar has fit into the broad patterns of U.S. foreign policy and yet has never been fully integrated into diplomatic efforts in the region of Southeast Asia. When Burma, a British colony since the nineteenth century, achieved independence in 1948, the United States feared that the country might be the first Southeast Asian nation to fall to the communists, and it embarked on a series of efforts to prevent this. In 1962, General Ne Win, who toppled the government in a coup d’état, established an authoritarian socialist military junta that severely limited diplomatic contact and led to a period in which the primary American diplomatic concern became Burma’s increasing opium production. Ne Win’s rule ended (at least officially) in 1988, when the Burmese people revolted against the oppressive military government. Aung San Suu Kyi emerged as the charismatic leader of the opposition and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991. Amid these great changes in policy and outlook, Burma/Myanmar remained fiercely nonaligned and, under Ne Win, isolationist. The limited diplomatic exchange that resulted meant that the state was often a frustrating puzzle to U.S. officials. Clymer explores attitudes toward Burma (later Myanmar), from anxious anticommunism during the Cold War to interventions to stop drug trafficking to debates in Congress, the White House, and the Department of State over how to respond to the emergence of the opposition movement in the late 1980s. The junta’s brutality, its refusal to relinquish power, and its imprisonment of opposition leaders resulted in public and Congressional pressure to try to change the regime. Indeed, Aung San Suu Kyi’s rise to prominence fueled the new foreign policy debate that was focused on human rights, and in that climate Burma/Myanmar held particularly large symbolic importance for U.S. policy makers. Congressional and public opinion favored sanctions, while U.S. presidents and their administrations were more cautious. Clymer’s account concludes with President Obama’s visits in 2012 and 2014, and visits to the United States by Aung San Suu Kyi and President Thein Sein, which marked the establishment of a new, warmer relationship with a relatively open Myanmar.

Book Seventh day Adventist Health Reform A Crucible of Identity Tensions

Download or read book Seventh day Adventist Health Reform A Crucible of Identity Tensions written by Richard B. Ferret and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-07-20 with total page 139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Seventh-day Adventist church, formally organized in America in 1863, is today one of the fastest-growing Protestant movements in the world and defines itself as a prophetic remnant, raised up and commissioned by God to teach and preach a final message of warning to the world before the imminent return of Christ. From its beginnings, however, a sense of failure was built into the success of the fledgling movement. In order to preserve the message (the imminent return of Christ), Adventists had to erect institutions based on continuity and permanence. A dilemma emerged: medical institutions built to be conducive for separation from the world faced a this-worldly reality filled with requirements from various state entities: registration, approval, and so forth. Thus, Adventist medical institutions confronted constant challenges to their denominational and theological uniqueness. The emergence of this dilemma between aspirations of separateness and this-worldly reality was especially evident in the battle for Adventism's sectarian identity, ethos, and future at the turn of the twentieth century--between Ellen G. White (a cofounder of the movement) and Dr. John H. Kellogg (an Adventist administrator and surgeon who sought to desectarianize the movement).
