Book The Minnesota Response

Download or read book The Minnesota Response written by George Wilson Morse and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book The Minnesota Response explains how Minnesota Extension responded to its mission and money crisis in 2004 with a sweeping restructuring. Breaking with 95 years of tradition, Minnesota Extension shifted from a county delivery model to a regional/county model. Regionalization, however, is the tip of the iceberg. Several other policies define Minnesota's new approach, including changes in funding sources, degree of specialization of the regional educators, more statewide program teams, development of business plans and public value statements, supervision of field educators by program specialists rather than geographic supervisors, new scholarship and promotion expectations, and new evaluation efforts. The Minnesota Response describes these policies and reports on their initial impacts on program quality, scholarship, access, and public support. As land-grant universities seek to rebuild programs based on 'best practices,' this book contributes valuable, experience-based insights into the choices available as Extension programs continue to evolve and respond. Michael V. Martin, Chancellor of Louisiana State University.

Book The New Midwestern Table

Download or read book The New Midwestern Table written by Amy Thielen and published by Clarkson Potter. This book was released on 2013-09-24 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Minnesota native Amy Thielen, host of Heartland Table on Food Network, presents 200 recipes that herald a revival in heartland cuisine in this James Beard Award-winning cookbook. Amy Thielen grew up in rural northern Minnesota, waiting in lines for potluck buffets amid loops of smoked sausages from her uncle’s meat market and in the company of women who could put up jelly without a recipe. She spent years cooking in some of New York City’s best restaurants, but it took moving home in 2008 for her to rediscover the wealth and diversity of the Midwestern table, and to witness its reinvention. The New Midwestern Table reveals all that she’s come to love—and learn—about the foods of her native Midwest, through updated classic recipes and numerous encounters with spirited home cooks and some of the region’s most passionate food producers. With 150 color photographs capturing these fresh-from-the-land dishes and the striking beauty of the terrain, this cookbook will cause any home cook to fall in love with the captivating flavors of the American heartland.

Book The Minnesota Pylos Project 1990 98

Download or read book The Minnesota Pylos Project 1990 98 written by Frederick A. Cooper and published by BAR International Series. This book was released on 2017 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1990 the University of Minnesota carried out an architectural survey of the standing remains of the Bronze Age Palace of Nestor, discovered by Carl Blegen in 1939 and excavated from 1952 to 1966. While the first stone-by-stone state plan of the building was being created, it became clear that some of the architectural assumptions about the structure and its history could not be correct. Over the next eight years the Blegen-period backfill covering the site was systematically removed so that a complete architectural plan could be prepared. The work was carried out using the protocols of an archaeological excavation. Although only backfill was removed, numerous unexpected finds were recovered, ranging from discarded Linear B tablets and wall painting fragments to roof tiles and pottery; in addition, a detailed study of the architecture revealed evidence for startling new conclusions about the structure of the palace and the history of the site. Part I - New Studies at the Palace of Nestor With contributions by Todd M. Brenningmeyer, Frederick A. Cooper, Joshua N. Distler, Caitlin Downey, Anne B. Hollond, Eleni M. Konstantinidi-Syvridi, George Otto Marquardt, Shawn A. Ross Part II - The Architecture of the Palace of Nestor by Michael C. Nelson
