Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mining Industry in the Territory of Alaska During the Calendar Year 1915 The output of placer gold showed a slight decrease over 1914, which was partly due to the partial exhaustion of the placers, but also to the fact that many of the operators owning ground tributary to the line of the Government railroad prefer to await the comple tion of the road, when comparatively cheap coal may be obtained, rather than to pay the present excessive price for wood. As the cost of fuel for thawing frozen placers constitutes a large part of the total mining cost, the delay is warranted. The output of placer gold for 1915 is valued at as compared with in 19143' More than 30 gold dredges were busy in the summer of 1915, and the construction of several new ones was started. The value of the output from dredging declined slightly, being in 1915 and in 1914. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Mineral Resources of Alaska

Download or read book Mineral Resources of Alaska written by Alfred H. Brooks and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mineral Resources of Alaska: Report on Progress of Investigations in 1916 This volume is the thirteenth of a series of annual bulletins treating of the mining industry OI Alaska and summarizing the results achieved during the year in the investigation of the mineral resources of the Territory. In preparing these reports the aim is prompt publication of the most important economic results of the year. The short time available for their preparation does not permit full Office study of the field notes and specimens, and some of the statements made here may be subject to modification when the study has been completed. Those interested in any particular district are therefore urged to procure a copy of the complete report on that district as soon as it is available. This volume, like those previously issued contains both pre liminary statements on investigations made during the year and summaries Of the condition of the mining industry, including statistics of mineral production. It is intended that this series of reports shall serve as convenient reference works on the mining industry for the years which they cover. Lack of funds prevents a visit to every mining district each year by a member of the survey, and therefore the data used in preparing the summary on mining development are in part based on information gleaned from various reliable sources. Book Alaskan Coal Problems Classic Reprint

Download or read book Alaskan Coal Problems Classic Reprint written by Walter L. Fisher and published by . This book was released on 2015-09-27 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Alaskan Coal Problems The accompanying address, in slightly different form, was delivered by the Secretary of the Interior before the American Mining Congress at Chicago, III., on October 27, 1911. It embodies, in addition to the results of the Secretary's personal examinations in Alaska, results of investigations conducted by the director and certain engineers of tho Bureau of Mines during the summer of 1911, and of more extensive investigations, covering several years, made by geologists of the Alaska division of the United States Geological Survey. The facts brought out in the address relate to the mining conditions and the possible mining operations in tho two more important Alaskan coal fields, namely, tho Bering River field and the Matanuska field. Many of the problems involved in tho efficient mining and utilization of the coal in the two fields mentioned and in other Alaskan coal fields come within tho province of the Bureau of Mines, since this bureau is not only authorized to carry on investigations relating to methods of mining and to the utilization of fuels, but is also charged with the inspection of mines in Alaska. Among those who are most interested in these mining problems and who should be most helpful in their proper solution are the engineers and the coal operators of the country. There will necessarily be some delay in the formal publication of the data collected by the Bureau of Mines; consequently, this statement by the Secretary of the Interior is now published by the bureau to meet tho large demand for immediate information. The statement gives a summary of information concerning the quality of the coal in the two fields discussed and of the problems involved in the mining and utilization of this coal. It is accompanied by a map of Alaska, prepared by the United States Geological Survey, showing the distribution of the various coal fields. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mineral Resources of Alaska: Report on Progress of Investigations in 1914 The arrangement and manner of treatment in this volume are the same as in those previously issued. First, papers of a general char acter are presented, followed by those treating of special districts, arranged geographically from south to north. This bulletin contains eighteen papers by eight authors. One of these papers deals with administrative matters, one is a general summary of the mining industry, one treats of the future of the placer-mining industry, and the remainder deal more specifically with the mineral resources Of cer tain districts. In the geologic papers emphasis is laid on the con elusions having immediate interest to the miner. These conclusions are discussed here briefly, but will be more fully treated in reports now in preparation. The need of prompt publication requires that the illustrations in this volume be of the simplest kind. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
