Book excerpt: This book covers a broad spectrum of issues shaping the current paradigm of minerals sector governance. The ultimate aim of the book is to understand trends and developments in mineral law and policy occurring at international, regional, cross-border and in some selected cases at national level and also to identify some of the challenges lying ahead. With these objectives in view, the book brings together a representative selection of the most knowledgeable authors on the subject. The contributions deal with a diverse range of issues tackled from interdisciplinary perspectives. Topics are divided into five main chapters: international and comparative aspects of mineral law; actors and policies in the minerals industry; investment prospects, financial and fiscal issues; sustainable development and regional outlooks. The book aspires to serve as a useful reference for scholars, practitioners, students and all those with an interest in current developments in the areas reviewed. Book The Mineral Industry of the British Empire and Foreign Countries Vol 2

This book was released on 2018-02-16 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mineral Industry of the British Empire and Foreign Countries, Vol. 2: War Period; Coal, Coke, and by-Products, 1913-1919 Igneous intrusions have materially altered the quality of the coal in some districts - especially in northern Natal, where dykes passing through the Coal Measures have destroyed the value of the coal for short distances from the planes of contact, roughly equivalent to the thickness of the dykes. Intrusive sheets in contact with a seam usually destroy its value, and, when separated from the coal by sandstone and shale, which form the main body of the Coal Measures, their effect is roughly proportional to the thickness of the sheet, and varies inversely with the distance of the sheet from the coal. The high calorific value of some of the Natal coal seams is attributed to this cause. It seems probable that, in some cases, hot mineral solutions have penetrated the laminations of the coal seams and have deposited their contents, thus increasing the relative percentage of the ash. In the coal, and, sometimes, driving 08 an appreciable quantity of volatile hydrocarbons. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Mineral Resources of the United States Vol 2

Download or read book Mineral Resources of the United States Vol 2 written by United States Geological Society and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-04-30 with total page 1032 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mineral Resources of the United States, Vol. 2: Calendar Year 1908; Nonmetallic Products The year 1908 Will be remembered as one of general depression in the coal-mining industry and comparable to some extent with the lean years 1894, 1895, and 1896, yet the total production in 1908 exceeded that of any year in our history with the single exception of 1907, the year of record-making activity and production. In 1907, or at least until the panic developed in October, the principal com plaint of operators was the scarcity of labor to work the mines and of railroad cars and motive power to transport the roduct. No such difficulties were experienced in 1908, for although the output in the year under review was per cent 'less than in 1907, there was a pronounced increase in the number of men employed, both in the anthracite and bituminous mines, and the transportation equip ment was at all times ample to take care of the diminished tonnage. Book Mineral Economics and Policy

Download or read book Mineral Economics and Policy written by John E. Tilton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-17 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook provides an introduction to the field of mineral economics and its use in understanding the behaviour of mineral commodity markets and in assessing both public and corporate policies in this important economic sector. The focus is on metal and non-metallic commodities rather than oil, coal, and other energy commodities. The work draws on John Tilton's teaching experience over the last 30 years at the Colorado School of Mines and the Catholic University of Chile, as well as short courses for RioTinto and other mining companies. This is combined with the professional consulting and academic research of Juan Ignacio Guzmán over the past decade, in order to demonstrate the industry application of the economic principles described in the earlier chapters. The book should be an ideal text for graduate and undergraduate students in the fields of mining engineering and natural resource economics and policy. It should also be of interest to professionals and investors in mining and commodity markets, and those undertaking continuing education in the mineral sector.

Download or read book Economic Geology written by Walter L. Pohl and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-03-03 with total page 725 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity’s ever-increasing hunger for mineral raw materials, caused by a growing global population and ever increasing standards of living, has resulted in economic geology becoming a subject of urgent importance. This book provides a broad panorama of mineral deposits, covering their origin and geological characteristics, the principles of the search for ores and minerals, and the investigation of newly found deposits. Practical and environmental issues that arise during the life cycle of a mine and after its closure are addressed, with an emphasis on sustainable and "green" mining. The central scientific theme of the book is to place the extraordinary variability of mineral deposits in the frame of fundamental geological processes. The book is written for earth science students and practicing geologists worldwide. Professionals in administration, resource development, mining, mine reclamation, metallurgy, and mineral economics will also find the text valuable. Economic Geology is a fully revised translation of the the fifth edition of the German language text Mineralische und Energie-Rohstoffe. Book excerpt: Excerpt from United States Census of Mineral Industries, 1954, Vol. 2: Area Statistics, Industry Statistics for Geographic Divisions, States, and Counties Mining Operations were classified by industry, on the' basis of the principal mineral produced or, if there was no produc tion, on the basis of'the principal mineral for which explora tion or development work was in process. The recovery of material from culm banks, ore dumps, and other waste min erals piles was classified with the appropriate mining industry according to the mineral product recovered. Mineral preparation plants are usually operated together with mines or quarries and frequently no separate records for them are maintained. All such preparation plants are included in the scope of the minerals census. In general, separately operated preparation plants, whether they process minerals for the account of the operator or on a custom or toll basis for others, are also included in the minerals census. Coal cleaning and sizing plants Operated at mines or as separate establish ments are so included. However, the crushing, grinding, or otherwise treating of certain nonmetallic minerals (except fuels) About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
