Book excerpt: This edited book contains a hitherto unpublished seminar held by the author in Milan, Italy in 1985. The seminar is preceded by a foreword by Kate White, of the Bowlby Centre, and by an introduction by the editor, Marco Bacciagaluppi. The introduction contains excerpts from unpublished correspondence between the author and the editor, carried out over a span of eight years, between 1982 and 1990. After the seminar there are the follow-ups of the three cases presented by Leopolda Pelizzaro, Ferruccio Osimo and Emilia Fumagalli, and a report by Germana Agnetti and Angelo Barbato, who gave hospitality to the author and his wife. This is followed by a contribution by Ferruccio Osimo on experiential dynamic psychotherapy, an application of attachment theory, with a long case study. At the end there are some concluding remarks by the editor.

Book Handbook of Family Therapy Training and Supervision

Download or read book Handbook of Family Therapy Training and Supervision written by Howard A. Liddle and published by Guilford Press. This book was released on 1988-06-17 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last three decades, family therapy has revolutionized the mental health field, changing the way human problems are conceived and therapy is conducted. In concert with the dynamic growth of family therapy, the field of family therapy training and supervision has also expanded enormously yielding many new ideas and skills. Yet, until now, few books have been devoted to it, and no single volume has attempted to relate the full breadth of this growing field in terms of its conceptual and theoretical expansion as well as its practical application. HANDBOOK OF FAMILY THERAPY TRAINING AND SUPERVISION fills this need by presenting a truly comprehensive view of this dynamic area. To accomplish this broad yet in-depth scope, editors Liddle, Breunlin, and Schwartz have assembled 30 highly acclaimed authorities to author chapters in their respective areas of expertise. For further clarification, the editors have included segues that introduce and analyze each of the book's four major sections providing the reader with an overview of the section, highlights of themes that run through it, and discussion of the issues raised in a way that ties the chapters together. The book opens with a presentation of the unique and innovative approaches to training and supervision that have evolved in each separate school of family therapy. Offering a panoramic view of the entire field of family therapy, these seven chapters allow for fascinating comparisons among the different schools regarding the process by which ideas about therapy evolve into training techniques and philosophies. Section II follows with an explication of the pragmatics of family therapy supervision. Helping family therapy trainers avoid and anticipate the common mistakes involved with supervision, the skills described in this section create an atmosphere conducive to learning and maintaining a working trainer-trainee relationship, and finally, for training of supervisors. Practical guidelines for using live and video supervision are included. Section III features family therapy trainers in such diverse fields as psychiatry, psychology, family medicine, social work, nursing, free-standing and academic family therapy programs, who describe the problems and advantages they encounter teaching these new ideas within their idiosyncratic contexts. The book closes with a section that includes reflections on the field by such innovative and respected leaders as Cloe Madanes and Jay Haley. Among topics covered are perspectives and recommendations for researchers evaluating family therapy, practical advice for incorporating a cultural perspective into training programs, feedback on the experience of live supervision from trainees' perspectives. An appendix follows that provides over 400 references organized by subject for easy reference. Given the level and scope of this extraordinary text, FAMILY THERAPY TRAINING AND SUPERVISION is an invaluable resource for anyone interested in teaching, learning, or simply appreciating family therapy.

Book The Crowning of a Poet s Quest

Download or read book The Crowning of a Poet s Quest written by Paola Loreto and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2009 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This first extended study of Derek Walcott’s Tiepolo’s Hound (2000) defines the book as the culmination of the poetry and poetic of the Caribbean writer and Nobel Prize winner. In this long poem, Walcott achieves three goals pursued throughout his career: to develop an original Caribbean aesthetic; to meld the modes of poetry and prose; and to formulate the Bildung of the island-artist in terms of an ‘autobiographical’ narrative. The analysis provides an aesthetic and cultural evaluation of the poem, in terms both of the Western poetic tradition to which it refers through its rich intertextuality and of its significance as a postcolonial milestone. The commentary locates Walcott in an aesthetic tradition running from Emerson through the American Pragmatists to modernist poets; describes his experimental use of certain central narrative strategies in his semi-autobiographical long poems, which is compared to those of another, openly admired, bilingual writer, Vladimir Nabokov; explores Walcott’s revision of the epic mode and of the genre of autobiography; delineates his unfolding of a post-Romantic internalization of the poet’s Arthurian quest; and discusses his complex treatment of the multi-layered metaphor of light as major evidence of the maturity of his style and poetic, with their conscious cross-fertilization between the literary cultures of Europe and the Caribbean. An appendix to this study contains the transcriptions of various ‘Walcott events’ that took place in Italy in the summers of 2000 and 2001, including a creative writing seminar, a press conference, and readings. This extensive material opens a window onto Walcott’s gifts as a teacher, to his stringent yet passionate commitment to the art of poetry, and to the ways in which he and his students grapple with the challenges of literary translation.

Book Network Industries and Social Welfare

Download or read book Network Industries and Social Welfare written by Massimo Florio and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2013-06-20 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A dramatic change of ownership, regulation, and organisation of essential public services, such as electricity, gas, and telecommunications, has taken place in Europe in less than 20 years. This was not the outcome of spontaneous adaptation, but an entirely top-down policy experiment, mainly conceived in London during Mrs Thatcher's years, then pursued in Brussels - the 'capital' of the European Union - and imposed on more or less reluctant players by laws, directives, regulations, and administrative and judicial decisions. The European reform paradigm revolves around three pillars: privatisation, unbundling, and regulated liberalisation of network industries. These industries, despite the reforms, are still special, as they include core natural monopoly components (the electricity grid, the gas pipelines, the telephony networks, etc.), are often based on complex system integration of different segments (for example of electricity generation, transmission, distribution and retail supply), and offer services that have critical social and economic importance, from heating to internet. This book offers a careful scrutiny of energy and telephony reforms and prices paid by households in 15 countries across Western Europe. It attempts to answer such questions as: Are the consumers in Europe happier than they were before the reforms? Do they pay less? Do they get a better quality for the services? Network Industries and Social Welfare provides an overview of the main facts, the conceptual issues, and of the empirical evidence on pricing, perceptions of quality of service, and the issues of utility poverty and social affordability. It suggests that the benefits of the reforms for the consumers have often been limited and that governments should reconsider their overconfidence in regulated market mechanisms in network industries.

Book Equal Opportunities and Vocational Training

Download or read book Equal Opportunities and Vocational Training written by Karin Riis-Jørgensen and published by Berlin : European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training. This book was released on 1984 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study examined the training needs of women working in moderate-sized enterprises owned by their husbands. Information collected from interviews with spouses of business owners in Belgium, Denmark, the Federal Republic of Germany, France, and Italy confirmed the original hypothesis that in the kind of enterprise studied it is the man who owns the business and the wife who assumes various duties without having the necessary training. In Belgium, Denmark, West Germany, and France special educational opportunities, consisting mainly of courses in administrative functions, were available for the co-working spouse. Although actual statistical data were not available, the consensus among the co-working spouses interviewed was that they do not avail themselves of existing educational opportunities to a satisfactory extent. Reasons cited for failure to participate in available educational programming included lack of time, distance to school or college, time and form of courses, price, course content, and attitudes toward education. The general picture concerning the role of the children in these enterprises was that they do not wish to follow in their parents' footsteps. (Appended to this report is a discussion of the treatment within the European community of the educational situation of co-working wives of business owners in rural communities.) (MN)
