Download or read book Was Frankenstein Really Uncle Sam Vol Xi written by Richard J. Rolwing and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-02-23 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each of the first four volumes of this series contain365 essays. Each subsequent volume contains about 36 essays. Volumes grow bigger as later essays grow longer. Rolwing examines nearly all the major writers on our Basic Charter, most of whom repudiate it. He focuses on their manifold criticisms and rejections, reveals their multiple distortions and misunderstandings, rebukes their self-contradictions and inconsistencies, and pities their general theo-phobia. He argues that while America was Founded almost completely by Protestant Christians (the only two deists were not even deists), what was Founded was formally only a philosophical product, not a faith based or Christian one, although the philosophy had been more Catholic than Protestant. Rolwing makes a great deal of American history, law, ethics, politics, philosophy, and theology easily accessible to the average reader. Each 5 minute essay can give you a high for the whole day.

Book excerpt: Most young people entering adult life have little or no knowledge about personal finance. By the time they acquire that knowledge, it's too late to take advantage of the power of their youth. They are in desperate need of a personal mentor to educate them about the financial and social issues of their adult life. The Mentor is the one book that will convey years of financial knowledge and personal experience onto young adults. It has many of the information we wish we had when we started our adult life. It contains precise, detailed information about the everyday financial issues that affect your life, like Credit Scores, Credit Cards, Auto Leases, Mortgages, Taxes and many more.Written by an economic layperson for the economic layperson, The Mentor takes years of life experience and knowledge and combines it with information from many financial books. It is written in easy to understand language to create a financial guide, that young and older adults need, to be smart with their money. In addition it touches on some lessons for life that have come out of years living and working as a physician and patient advocate. The Mentor is just what the doctor ordered for students and teachers, as well as for parents and teenagers. The information contained within it is very valuable and enlightening to young adults as well as many older adults. I certainly wish I had such information growing up.

Download or read book In Uncle Sam s Service written by Susan Zeiger and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-15 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During World War I, the first American war in which women were mobilized on a mass scale by the armed services, more than sixteen thousand women served overseas with the American Expeditionary Force. Although wealthy women volunteers—members of the so-called'heiress corps'—monopolized public attention, Susan Zeiger reveals that the majority of AEF women were wage-earners. Their motives for enlistment ranged from patriotism to economic self-interest, from a sense of adventure to a desire to challenge gender boundaries. Zeiger uses diaries, letters, questionnaires, oral histories, and memoirs to explore the women's experience of war. She draws upon insights from labor history, political history, popular culture, and the study of gender and war to analyze the ways in which women's wartime service heightened and made visible the contradictions in the prevailing gender relations. Zeiger argues that the interests of AEF women clashed with those of the wartime state at a crucial historical moment. Women sought to expand their personal opportunities for mobility and professional success and lay claim to equal citizenship. The government, determined to contain the disruption to the status quo, created a separate, subordinate status for women in the military,'domesticating'women's service and reinscribing it within conventional limits.
