Book The Mechanism of Adsorption of Au CN 4 Onto Activated Carbon

Download or read book The Mechanism of Adsorption of Au CN 4 Onto Activated Carbon written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Au(CN)4(-) species adsorbs onto activated carbon as a chemically unchanged ion pair of the type M(n+)[Au(CN)4(-)]n, in a manner similar to that postulated for Au(CN)2(-). The affinity of carbon for Au(CN)4(-) is greater than that for Au(CN)2(-). A Mossbauer spectroscopic investigation has confirmed that Au(CN)4(-) is the species adsorbed from both acidic and neutral solutions. The Mossbauer spectrum of carbon that is loaded with Au(CN)4(-) and subsequently boiled in hydrochloric acid is interpreted in terms of the presence of Au(CN)2Cl2(-), Au(CN)2(-) and AuCN as products of the decomposition of Au(CN)4(-).

Book The Mechanisms of Adsorption of Ag CN 2 and Ag on to Activated Carbon

Download or read book The Mechanisms of Adsorption of Ag CN 2 and Ag on to Activated Carbon written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silver is adsorbed onto activated carbon from potassium cyanide solution initially in the form of the K+Ag(CN)2- ion pair. Infrared spectra suggest that the cyanide stretching frequency for Ag(CN)2- is shifted to lower wavenumbers upon adsorption, to approximately that of Ag(CN)4 3-. This may be a result of an aggregation of the species on the carbon surface. Boiling in hydrochloric acid results in the formation of AgCN and AgCl. The presence of AgCN is also indicated on Ag(CN)2- -loaded carbons that have dried at temperatures of 120 degrees C or higher. Subsequent treatment with hot sodium hydroxide solution results in the reduction of all of the silver on the carbon to the metallic state, with some desorption of Ag(CN)2-. When silver is loaded onto activated carbon from a silver nitrate solution, adsorption takes place via a dual mechanism, with reduction to metallic silver and precipitation of AgCl both taking place on the carbon surface.

Book The Recovery Of Gold From Secondary Sources

Download or read book The Recovery Of Gold From Secondary Sources written by Syed Sabir and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016-06-29 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New discoveries of the properties of gold at a nanoscale, and its effective use in modern technologies, have been driving a virtual 'gold rush'. Depleting natural resources has meant that the recovery of gold continues to grow in importance and relevance. The Recovery of Gold from Secondary Sources analyses the most advanced technology in gold recovery and recycling from spent sources of mobile phones, unwanted electronic equipment and waste materials. State-of-the-art techniques of hydrometallurgical and bio-metallurgical processing, leaching, cementing, adsorbing and separation through bio-sorbents are all described in detail, providing a guide for students and researchers. Discussion of environmentally friendly methods of recovery are presented, in order to provide modern-day alternatives to previous techniques. For those interested in the study of gold recovery this book gives a comprehensive overview of current recovery, making it the ultimate source of information for students, researchers, chemists, metallurgists, environmental scientists and electronic waste recovery experts.

Book The Mechanism of Adsorption of Aurocyanide Onto Activated Carbon

Download or read book The Mechanism of Adsorption of Aurocyanide Onto Activated Carbon written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mechanism of adsorption of aurocyanide onto activated carbon and its subsequent elution are examined in this study, with special reference to the effects of acid and alkali treatment on the system. The results, including a careful analysis of the distribution of all ions in the adsorption and elution processes, are discussed, and evidence for the adsorption and elution mechanisms involved is presented. It is proposed that, under normal plant conditions, aurocyanide is extracted onto activated carbon in the form of an ion pair, M(n+)[Au(CN)2(-)]n, and eluted by hydroxide or cyanide. The hydroxide or cyanide ions react with the carbon surface, rendering it relatively hydrophilic with a decreased affinity for neutral species. Additional adsorption mechanisms are shown to operate under other conditions of ionic strength, pH, and temperature, and it is suggested that this may account in part for the lack of agreement among workers.
