Book Clinical Mechanics of the Hand

Download or read book Clinical Mechanics of the Hand written by Paul W. Brand and published by Mosby Elsevier Health Science. This book was released on 1993 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a practical text on the subject of hand surgery that covers all of the practical mechanical principles in a nonthreatening way. The book covers all of the basic elements of the forces that result in movement of the hand, and all the forces that hinder its movement. The authors quantify those elements in manner in which surgeons and therapists can judge their own measure of success or failure as they try to repair and restore movement to damaged hands.

Book Orthopaedic Mechanics

  • Author : Dhanjoo N. Ghista
  • Publisher : Academic Press
  • Release : 2014-05-10
  • ISBN : 1483257592
  • Pages : 321 pages

Download or read book Orthopaedic Mechanics written by Dhanjoo N. Ghista and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthopaedic Mechanics: Procedures and Devices, Volume II covers the biomechanical considerations for designing orthopedic procedures and devices. This six-chapter volume emphasizes the mechanics of skeletal responses and rehabilitation devices. The first chapter reviews the design development of a device for non-invasive evaluation of bone strength by determination of the in vivo modulus of elasticity of the tibia. The next chapters provide finite-element stress analyses of the proximal tibia and the stresses and deformations resulting from forcing a prosthesis into the medullary canal through a viscoelastic annular cylindrical tube model. These topics are followed by descriptions of a three-dimensional analysis for a more representative computation of muscle and joint forces. A chapter focuses on the features and applications of the Torqheel device for correcting a lower extremity rotational deformity causing foot misalignment. This dynamic device activates the corrective forces by a collapse of the rubber ribs when ground contact is made, thus creating a rotational displacement of the heel about in its center. The last chapter illustrates the implementation of some considerations of the biomechanical design in the case of some popular orthopedic implants. This book will prove useful to orthopedic surgeons and orthopedic mechanics researchers.

Book Tissue Mechanics

Download or read book Tissue Mechanics written by Stephen C. Cowin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-22 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The structures of living tissues are continually changing due to growth and response to the tissue environment, including the mechanical environment. Tissue Mechanics is an in-depth look at the mechanics of tissues. Tissue Mechanics describes the nature of the composite components of a tissue, the cellular processes that produce these constituents, the assembly of the constituents into a hierarchical structure, and the behavior of the tissue’s composite structure in the adaptation to its mechanical environment. Organized as a textbook for the student needing to acquire the core competencies, Tissue Mechanics will meet the demands of advanced undergraduate or graduate coursework in Biomedical Engineering, as well as, Chemical, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering. Key features: Detailed Illustrations Example problems, including problems at the end of sections A separate solutions manual available for course instructors A website (http://tissue-mechanics.com/) that has been established to provide supplemental material for the book, including downloadable additional chapters on specific tissues, downloadable PowerPoint presentations of all the book's chapters, and additional exercises and examples for the existing chapters. About the Authors: Stephen C. Cowin is a City University of New York Distinguished Professor, Departments of Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering, City College of the City University of New York and also an Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedics, at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, New York. In 1985 he received the Society of Tulane Engineers and Lee H. Johnson Award for Teaching Excellence and a recipient of the European Society of Biomechanics Research Award in 1994. In 1999 he received the H. R. Lissner medal of the ASME for contributions to biomedical engineering. In 2004 he was elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and he also received the Maurice A.
