Book Gamma ray Diagnostics of D T Fusion Reactions

Download or read book Gamma ray Diagnostics of D T Fusion Reactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of D-T fusion-energy sources requires intimate and precise measurement of fusion-burn conditions in reactor-development experiments. Some of the limitations inherent in presently available diagnostics based on massive particle emissions can be overcome by measuring fusion-generated high-energy gamma rays. Although gamma-ray intensities are low, gamma rays offer diagnostic advantages of dispersion-free propagation and low intrinsic backgrounds. This paper describes two detector systems developed to study D-T fusion reactions by measuring the associated 16.7-MeV gamma-ray emissions. The first system is a Compton-recoil spectrometer and features good energy resolution of the 16.7-MeV photons. This system uses a sector-magnet spectrometer to isolate electrons forward-scattered by the high-energy gamma rays. The second system is a threshold Cerenkov detector and features a higher net sensitivity. A chamber filled with CO2 gas acts as a Cerenkov medium for electrons scattered by the 16.7-MeV photons. The gas pressure is adjusted so that electrons scattered by photons having energies less than 16.7 MeV do not have sufficient energy to generate Cerenkov light in the gas.

Book Neutronics of Advanced Nuclear Systems

Download or read book Neutronics of Advanced Nuclear Systems written by Yican Wu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-19 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic and comprehensive introduction to the neutronics of advanced nuclear systems, covering all key aspects, from the fundamental theories and methodologies to a wide range of advanced nuclear system designs and experiments. It is the first-ever book focusing on the neutronics of advanced nuclear systems in the world. Compared with traditional nuclear systems, advanced nuclear systems are characterized by more complex geometry and nuclear physics, and pose new challenges in terms of neutronics. Based on the achievements and experiences of the author and his team over the past few decades, the book focuses on the neutronics characteristics of advanced nuclear systems and introduces novel neutron transport methodologies for complex systems, high-fidelity calculation software for nuclear design and safety evaluation, and high-intensity neutron source and technologies for neutronics experiments. At the same time, it describes the development of various neutronics designs for advanced nuclear systems, including neutronics design for ITER, CLEAR and FDS series reactors. The book not only summarizes the progress and achievements of the author’s research work, but also highlights the latest advances and investigates the forefront of the field and the road ahead.

This book was released on 1994-10-25 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These proceedings treat the production of high energy gamma rays and particles (mesons and dileptons) in heavy ion reactions from energies of about 30 MeV·A to a few GeV·A, and its application to the study of the Nuclear Equation of State from both the experimental and theoretical points of view. Giant resonances, intensity interferometry, meson fotoproduction and applications of intermediate energy heavy ion beams are also discussed.

Book Fusion Gamma Diagnostics

Download or read book Fusion Gamma Diagnostics written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear reactions of interest in fusion research often possess a branch that yields prompt emission of gamma radiation in excess of 15 MeV. This branch can be exploited to provide a new fusion reaction diagnostic having applications similar to conventional neutron emission measurements. Conceptual aspects of fusion gamma diagnostics are discussed with emphasis on application to TFTR during deuterium neutral beam heating of D-T and D-3He plasmas. Recent measurements of the D(T, .gamma.)5He, D(3He, .gamma.)5Li, and D(D, .gamma.)4He branching ratios at low center-of-mass energy (30 to 100 keV) and of the response of a large volume Ne226 detector for gamma detection in high neutron backgrounds are presented. For a well-shielded Ne226 detector, the D(T, .gamma.)5 He gamma signal level during 20 MW to 120 keV deuterium neutral beam heating of a TFTR tritium plasma was estimated to be 3.5 x 105 CPS.

Book A Method for the Analysis of Complex Peaks Occurring in Gamma Ray Pulse Height Distributions

Download or read book A Method for the Analysis of Complex Peaks Occurring in Gamma Ray Pulse Height Distributions written by C. L. Carnahan and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is described which can be used to compute the areas of overlapping peaks occurring in gamma-ray pulse height distributions in which the data are obtained in the form of histograms. The method is applicable to study of nuclear decay schemes and to the analysis of mixtures of radionuclides. The method can also be used to determine the energy of a gamma ray giving rise to a peak which is obscured by one or two other peaks from gamma rays of known energies. The method is based on the assumption that the events contributing to peak area are distributed about a central location according to the normal probability distribution. Prior calibration of the pulse height analyzer with sources of known energy is necessary for the application of the method.

Book Handbook of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis

Download or read book Handbook of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis written by G. Molnar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-02-23 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prompt gamma activation analysis (PGAA) is a unique, non-destructive nuclear analytical method with multi-element capabilities. It is most effective if intense neutron beams (especially cold beams) of nuclear reactors are used to induce the prompt gamma radiation. Based largely on the authors' pioneering research in cold neutron PGAA, the handbook describes the methodology in self-contained manner and reviews recent applications. The library of prompt gamma ray data and spectra for all natural elements is a unique aid to the practitioner. The level is understandable by a broad audience, which facilitates teaching and training. The Handbook of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis is a comprehensive handbook written for those practising the method, wanting to implement it at a reactor facility, or just looking for a powerful non-destructive method of element analysis. The book is also useful for nuclear physics, chemistry and engineering scientists, scholars and graduate students interested in neutron-induced gamma ray spectroscopy and nuclear analytical methods.
