Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Drop from the Marvelous Ocean of History, written by Lelung Tuklu Rinpoche XI, the current reincarnation of Lelung Jedrung, chronicles the history of this important lineage. Using varied Tibetan resources and biographies, Rinpoche begins with the source of the reincarnations, Olkha Jedrung, known as Lelung Pema Zhepai Dorje, who was the first human manifestation of the Buddhist deity Vajrapani, the powerful Lord of Secrets. He is the compiler and protector of the profound Tantras, which are the ultimate vehicle of the Buddha’s teachings. From the origin of the lineage, Rinpoche moves through time until the mid 1900s, tracing the lives of each Lelung reincarnation, beginning with Lhodrak Namkha Gyaltsen, who was born in 1326, and moving through to his predecessor Thubten Lungtok Choekyi Wangchuk, who passed away in 1962. This wonderful compilation will be a valuable resource about this essential part of Tibetan history.

She returned to Korea, only to find herself a stranger in her homeland. This memoir is the story of her personal struggle amidst the crucial events enveloping Asia at midcentury. Part I chronicles her childhood in Japan and the beginning of the war in the Pacific. Part II describes her return to Korea, the turmoil of Korea's liberation from Japan, and the Korean War. From a schoolgirl's perspective, Che describes events both global and intimate. She depicts the alienation and chaos of war and migration, as well as the domestic trials of a family seeking not merely to survive but to hold on to their heritage. Her story is at once a unique perspective on history and a moving chronicle of her own childhood, providing a detailed picture of diverse cultures irrevocably changed by two devastating wars.

Book Bare Essentials

  • Author : Sylvia Tascher
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation
  • Release : 2012-03-02
  • ISBN : 1469159619
  • Pages : 245 pages

Download or read book Bare Essentials written by Sylvia Tascher and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-03-02 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This epic drama opens in Boulder, Colorado, at the home of Oxford-educated Robert Dalton, an internationally known chemistry professor. His houseguest is Jozef Bardowski, head of the analytical laboratory of Warsaw's Nuclear Energy Institute. Knowing that Dalton, accompanied by his Polish-born wife Helena, will shortly embark upon a year's sabbatical at the University of Vienna, Bardowski expresses his fears that someone is introducing mind-altering drugs into Poland's natural gas to subdue the Polish people. In order to present the matter to the United Nations, he asks Dalton to analyze gas samples to be smuggled from Warsaw into the Austrian capital. Dalton agrees, unaware that by doing so he will subject both himself and Helena to acts of terror, including an attempt on his own life. It was a challenging undertaking to attempt to combine in one narrative the heady subject of Poland's most recent drive to free herself from oppression and the levity engendered by Robert Dalton, et al. I really did my best to show that the Polish cause is far from humorous but that humanity in general is. With the story's conclusion, I tried to see to it that each of the principles got what he or she deserved. I trust you will not be disappointed. It was my Polish friend Jozef who some years ago said to me: "No, life is not fair. Many times we lose when we should have won. But always remember this: Once you've lost the ability to laugh at whatever life deals you, then, then you've lost everything." I believe this philosophy typifies the warm, good-hearted, fun-loving, courageous people who reside in that wonderful country known to them as the Land of the White Eagle. Sylvia Tascher

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now, available for the first time together in a single volume: a digital-only, value-priced omnibus edition of the Helen Trilogy: Fever Dream, Cold Vengeance, and Two Graves-featuring Special Agent Pendergast--by #1 New York Times bestselling authors Preston & Child. FEVER DREAM:Yesterday, Special Agent Pendergast still mourned the loss of his beloved wife, Helen, who died in a tragic accident in Africa twelve years ago. Today, he discovers she was murdered. Tomorrow, he will learn her most guarded secrets, leaving him to wonder: Who was the woman I married? Why was she murdered? And, above all . . . Who murdered her?Revenge is not sweet: It is essential. COLD VENGEANCE:Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution. But revenge is not simple. As he stalks his wife's betrayers--a chase that takes him from the wild moors of Scotland to the bustling streets of New York City and the darkest bayous of Louisiana--he is also forced to dig further into Helen's past. And he is stunned to learn that Helen may have been a collaborator in her own murder. Peeling back the layers of deception, Pendergast realizes that the conspiracy is deeper, goes back generations, and is more monstrous than he could have ever imagined--and everything he's believed, everything he's trusted, everything he's understood . . . may be a horrific lie.Nothing is what it seems. TWO GRAVES:For twelve years, he believed she'd died in an accident. Then, he was told she'd been murdered. Now, FBI Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast discovers that his beloved wife, Helen, is alive. And Pendergast must embark on a furious cross-country chase to rescue her. But all this turns out to be mere prologue to a far larger plot: one that unleashes a chillingly--almost supernaturally--adept serial killer on New York City. His pursuit of the murderer will take Pendergast deep into the trackless forests of South America, to a hidden place where the evil that has blighted both his and Helen's lives lies in wait . . . a place where he will learn all too well the truth of the ancient proverb:Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.

Book From the Edge of Empire

Download or read book From the Edge of Empire written by Ian Hume and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2018-04-11 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This tells of why and how a young Rhodesian army Captain decided in 1963 not to fight the oncoming war over majority rule. His future unknown, he leaves the country for studies in Cape Town; marries; wins a Beit Fellowship to Oxford; and is recruited to a career at the World Bank. In time he becomes an expert on Eastern Europe. Invited home in 1975 to help prepare Rhodesia's transition to Zimbabwe, he spends three years living through the very war he chose to avoid. Rejoining the Bank, he works on Hungary and, in a unique period after communism fell in 1989, he lives in Poland as Resident Representative. A man of two transitions, he explains how they are separate but ironically linked. His book, a testament to the value of education and the power of family, is written as a memoir to his grandchildren. Now himself a proud American, he offers them a world view-what he calls a moral equilibrium- to harmonize their vexed heritage with today's divided America. Happy with his life, he regrets the outcomes in the country he left. He describes a different path to majority rule his countrymen could have taken, instead of herd-think support of Ian Smith's UDI and war. Had they done so, both the war as well as the brutality, corruption and devastation of Mugabe's Zimbabwe could well have been avoided. As a life's message to his grandchildren, he exhorts them not to make similar mistakes: beware the herd; think for yourself.
