Book Study of Parachute Opening

Download or read book Study of Parachute Opening written by J. R. Foote and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An outgrowth of Study of the Parachute Opening, Phase I was the realization that more information was neeeded about the actual mouth area as compared to the model mouth area used in that study. The experimental determination of this in terms of a k-factor, the correlation of this with the opening shock forces, and the processing of this data was the purpose of this study. For various reasons the study was incomplete. This report indicates what was to be done, what was done, the difficulties that arose, and make some suggestions about overcoming these difficulties. The point of view taken is that a successful conclusion of the study would have been of some importance and the record of this incomplete study might help to eliminate difficulties in a future study of this type.

Book A Method for the Calculation of Parachute Opening Forces for High Altitude Balloon Payloads

Download or read book A Method for the Calculation of Parachute Opening Forces for High Altitude Balloon Payloads written by Peter L. Miller and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the questions most frequently asked by scientists/experimenters who design balloon payloads concerns the magnitude of the opening forces of the parachute recovery system. Existing theory and an analytical method recently developed for horizontal deployment are adapted to balloon systems requirements. Engineering methods are used to develop expressions which allow the assessment of the parachute opening forces.

Book Fundamentals of Aerospace Medicine

Download or read book Fundamentals of Aerospace Medicine written by Jeffrey Davis and published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. This book was released on 2021-04-14 with total page 1262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encompassing all occupants of aircraft and spacecraft—passengers and crew, military and civilian—Fundamentals of Aerospace Medicine, 5th Edition, addresses all medical and public health issues involved in this unique medical specialty. Comprehensive coverage includes everything from human physiology under flight conditions to the impact of the aviation industry on public health, from an increasingly mobile global populace to numerous clinical specialty considerations, including a variety of common diseases and risks emanating from the aerospace environment. This text is an invaluable reference for all students and practitioners who engage in aeromedical clinical practice, engineering, education, research, mission planning, population health, and operational support.

Book Performance of and Design Criteria for Deployable Aerodynamic Decelerators

Download or read book Performance of and Design Criteria for Deployable Aerodynamic Decelerators written by George Chernowitz and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present state-of-the-art, technology, and theory applicable to deployable aerodynamic decelerators, especially textile parachute canopies, are presented. Major types of decelerators are described, and their aerodynamic and operational characteristics, as well as applications, are discussed. Detailed coverage is given to decelerator materials, design and construction, hardware, test methods and vehicles, and test instrumentation. Decelerator design procedures and performance prediction techniques are demonstrated by sample calculations.

Book Note on Analysis of the Opening Shock of Parachutes at Various Altitudes

Download or read book Note on Analysis of the Opening Shock of Parachutes at Various Altitudes written by Theodore Von Kármán and published by . This book was released on with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High decelerations up to 33g were measured on parachutes launched at 40,000 ft. altitude. This appears surprising since the theoretical prediction was made that the deceleration shock of a parachute launched at a true airplane speed proportional to the terminal velocity of a falling man should be independent of the altitude. It is shown that this theory is in error because it does not take into account the so call [sic] "apparent mass" of the parachute, i.e., the inertia of the air moving with the parachute. This additional mass is, of course, proportional to the density of the air at the given attitude and many times larger than the mass of the parachute itself, even considerably larger than the mass of the man. In this note the attempt is made to give the correct methods of analysis. Certain proposals are made for further experimentation.
