He did not care about his soldiers, he did not care about the theatre; he only liked to go out walking to show off his new clothes. He had a coat for every hour of the day; and just as they say of a king, 'He is in the council-chamber,' they always said here, 'The Emperor is in the wardrobe.' In the great city in which he lived there was always something going on; every day many strangers came there. One day two impostors arrived who gave themselves out as weavers, and said that they knew how to manufacture the most beautiful cloth imaginable. Not only were the texture and pattern uncommonly beautiful, but clothes which were made of the stuff possessed this wonderful property that they were invisible to anyone who was not fit for his office, or who was unpardonably stupid. 'Those must indeed be splendid clothes,' thought the Emperor. 'If I had them on I could find out which men in my kingdom are unfit for the offices they hold; I could distinguish the wise from the stupid! Yes, this cloth must be woven for me at once.' And he gave both the impostors much money, so that they might begin their work. They placed two weaving-looms, and began to do as if they were working, but they had not the least thing on the looms. They also demanded the finest silk and the best gold, which they put in their pockets, and worked at the empty looms till late into the night. 'I should like very much to know how far they have got on with the cloth,' thought the Emperor. But he remembered when he thought about it that whoever was stupid or not fit for his office would not be able to see it. Now he certainly believed that he had nothing to fear for himself, but he wanted first to send somebody else in order to see how he stood with regard to his office. Everybody in the whole town knew what a wonderful power the cloth had, and they were all curious to see how bad or how stupid their neighbour was. 'I will send my old and honoured minister to the weavers,' thought the Emperor. 'He can judge best what the cloth is like, for he has intellect, and no one understands his office better than he.' Now the good old minister went into the hall where the two impostors sat working at the empty weaving-looms. 'Dear me!' thought the old minister, opening his eyes wide, 'I can see nothing!' But he did not say so. Both the impostors begged him to be so kind as to step closer, and asked him if it were not a beautiful texture and lovely colours. They pointed to the empty loom, and the poor old minister went forward rubbing his eyes; but he could see nothing, for there was nothing there. 'Dear, dear!' thought he, 'can I be stupid? I have never thought that, and nobody must know it! Can I be not fit for my office? No, I must certainly not say that I cannot see the cloth!' 'Have you nothing to say about it?' asked one of the men who was weaving.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heavens were a stainless blue, and the Moon shone out of them arrayed in silvery garments. One by one the sky’s matchless jewels, the stars, peeped out, studding that great ceiling with flashing diamond-points, until the whole dome was a glittering mass of blue and silver. Calm and majestic the Moon glided over her star-studded pathway; but, in spite of her glorious beauty and brilliancy, she was really sad and sick at heart. Ethelda, her best beloved, the youngest and dearest of her children, had just made a request the granting of which caused her that night bitterest sorrow. Ethelda had asked no less than this: to visit the Earth and spend her honeymoon there! Prince Dorion came with a great retinue of knights, all dressed in shining gold wrought in the Sun’s fiery furnace, and bringing wonderful jewels to his bride. The Moon Queen, not to be outdone in magnificence, showered silver in plenty upon them both, and bade one hundred of her loveliest maidens accompany the bridal pair upon their journey. And so they set off across the heavens on their way to Earth….. But what adventures await the young couple? How will the little folk, the fairies, like this? Will the Prince and the Princess’ brilliance overshadow Earth’s Fairy King and Queen, annoying them, or will they be welcomed with open arms? Well, the only way to find out is to download the book and read this wonderful tale of fairies, fairy Kings and Queens and fairy Princes and Princesses. 10% of the profit from the sale of this book will be donated to charities. ============ Abela Publishing – Publishing Yesterday’s books for Today’s Charities 10% of the book’s profit is donated to charities. ============ ABOUTH THE AUTHOR Edith Ogden Harrison (November 16, 1862 – May 22, 1955) was a well-known and prolific author of children's books and fairy tales in the early decades of the twentieth century. Book THE FAIRY TALES OF CHARLES PERRAULT Illustrated Fairy Tales for Children

Download or read book THE FAIRY TALES OF CHARLES PERRAULT Illustrated Fairy Tales for Children written by Anon E. Mouse and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2018-09-08 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Perrault ranks alongside Hans Christian Andersen and the Grimms as a master storyteller. Perhaps he is less well known because he had done in the late 1600,s what the Grimm Bros. did in the mid-1800’s, which overshadowed his earlier achievements. In fact the Grimm Bros. translated a lot of Perrault’s stories into German and rebranded them in their own volumes. Like Dickens and Andersen in their time, during his own age Perrault (1628 – 1703) was one of the best-liked personages and has remained ever since a prime favourite. Everyone likes a man who enjoys life. Perrault was such a man and he was more. He was the cause of enjoyment to countless of his fellow countrymen, and his stories still promise enjoyment to countless more to come. We are fortunate in knowing a great deal about his varied life, deriving our knowledge mainly from D'Alembert's history of the French Academy and from his own memoirs. It was his enjoyment of life which led him to translate folklore and fairy tales, initially from France, but as empires expanded, he embarked upon translating and publishing stories from around the world. "La Belle au Bois Dormant" ("Sleeping Beauty") was the first: and a number in quick succession rapidly followed - "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge" (Red Riding-Hood), "Le Maistre Chat, ou le Chat Botté" (Puss in Boots), "Les Fées" (The Fairy), "Cendrillon, ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre" (Cinderella), "Riquet à la Houppe" (Riquet of the Tuft), and "Le Petit Poucet" (Tom Thumb) all of which appear in this volume. The stories soon crossed the Channel; and were translated by Mr Samber (presumably one Robert Samber) and printed for J. Pote. of New Inn. The first edition won a wide popularity, evidenced by the fact that there was a seventh edition published in 1795 for J. Rivington, a bookseller from New York. Additional stories in this illustrated volume are: “Blue Beard”, “The Ridiculous Wishes” and “Donkey-Skin”. We invite you to download and enjoy these stories, which are as close to the originals as you are ever likely to get. The 10 full page colour illustrations and 36 Pen and Ink illustrations by Irishman Harry Clarke (1889 – 1931) bring an added dimension to these lively stories. Rest assured, once you read these to the younger members of your family, they will keep on coming back to you for more. ============== KEYWORDS/TAGS: Folklore, fairy tales, myths, Legends, French, France, Charles Perrault, illustrated, Children’s stories, storyteller, fables, moral tales, myths, happiness, laughter, Little, Red Riding-Hood, The Fairy, Blue Beard, Sleeping Beauty, Woods, Master Cat, Puss In Boots, Cinderella, Glass Slipper, Riquet, Tuft, Little Thumb, Ridiculous Wishes, Donkey, Skin, Prince, Princess, King, Queen, mother, key, closet, misfortune, aged Countryman, Sauce, Marquis, joy, Crystal slipper, shoe, Jupiter, thunderbolts, black pudding, wriggle, ornament, beauty, gown, colour of the moon, Curiosity, keyhole, La Belle au Bois Dormant, Le Petit Chaperon Rouge, Le Maistre Chat, ou le Chat Botté, Les Fées, Cendrillon, ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre, Riquet à la Houppe, Le Petit Poucet

Book THE WORLD WIDE BOOK OF NURSERY TALES 8 illustrated Fairy Tales plus a host of Nursery Rhymes

Download or read book THE WORLD WIDE BOOK OF NURSERY TALES 8 illustrated Fairy Tales plus a host of Nursery Rhymes written by Various and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2018-10-10 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The original publishers offer in this volume well known and long loved and extremely well illustrated stories to their young readers. These tales have had delighted the children of many generations and will be equally welcome in the nurseries of the present day, which, with the popularity and antiquity of the contents of the volume, justify them in styling it The World-Wide Nursery Book. But why a "World-Wide book of Nursery Tales?" Take the story of Cinderella for example…..Many people believe this was written by the Grimm Brothers, but you would be incorrect. Charles Perrault (1628 - 1703) had identified, translated and published the tale of Cinderella at least 50 years before the Grimm Brothers translated the tale from French into German. There is still debate as to whether the story originated in ancient Egypt or China. In ancient Egypt a fragment of a papyrus records a part of the story which is titled The Lost Sandal. There are also fragments of recordings in ancient China. It is believed it then migrated West as trade between the East and West increased. There is also debate as to whether it originated in China and made its way to Egypt along trade routes before crossing the Middle East and arriving in Europe to become the tale we know today. So who wrote the original? The answer is simple. No-one knows, and its true author and country of origin are never likely to be known, but it is certainly a story with world-wide origins as are most of the stories in this book. Hence, we believe the name is fitting. The stories in this book are: Red Riding-Hood. Puss-In-Boots. Mother Hubbard. Cock Robin's Death. Jack And Bean-Stalk. Tom Thumb. Cinderella. The Three Bears. Punch And Judy Removed The Pets. PLUS Nursery Songs. Nursery Rhymes. Nursery Ditties. Nursery Tales. Nursery Jingles. The 112 colour illustrations in the classic style bring added life to the tales and rhymes enabling younger children to visualise the story being told. PUBLISHER’S NOTE: The original publication of this book included the nursery rhyme “Punch and Judy”. Due to the propagation of domestic violence and themes of gratuitous violence which result in death, portrayed in this tale, the publisher has not deemed this poem suitable for children, nor even adults, and have elected to remove it from this book. 10% of the profit from the sale of this eBook will be donated to charities. ============ KEYWORDS/TAGS: Folklore, fairy tales, myths, legends, folk tales, story, children’s stories, bedtime, fables, culture, cultural, Red Riding-Hood, Puss In Boots, Old Mother Hubbard, Cock Robin's Death, Jack And Bean Stalk, Tom Thumb, Cinderella, The Three Bears, Pets, Nursery Songs, Rhymes, Ditties, Jingles, sheep, Marquis Of Carrabas, Castle, princess, prince, mill, inheritance, frighten, reapers, marry, cupboard, dog, dance, cat, pipe, tavern, statue, Linnet, dove, fish, fly, owl, bell, bull, rook, lark, cow, beans, climb, gold, harp, ogre, giant, fee fie fo fum, hen, Golden Eggs, King, Arthur, Eagle, Ball, Coach, Fine Dress, Royal Ball, Glass Slipper, Porridge, Sleep, Bed, Rabbits, Cow, Donkey, Cock, Hen, Chickens, Horse, Goat, Pig, Dog, Little Miss Muffet, Curds, Whey, Pat-A-Cake, Humpty-Dumpty, Robin Redbreast, Little Boy Blue, Little Pig Went To Market, Little Jack Horner, Baa, Baa, Black Sheep, Pretty Maid, Mary, Quite Contrary, Little Bo-Peep, Hot Cross Buns, Hey Diddle Diddle, Cat And The Fiddle, Dish, Spoon, Queen Of Hearts, Goosey, Goosey Gander, Little Polly Flinders, Ding Dong Bell, Pussy, Well, Simple Simon, Pies, Fair, Guy Fawkes, Remember, Fifth Of November, 5th, Little Tom Tucker, Where Are You Going, My Pretty Maid, Ride A Cock-Horse, Sing A Song Of Sixpence, Tom, Tom, The Piper's Son, Old King Cole, Hush-A-By Baby

Herein you will find 12 stories of Raggedy Ann, written and illustrated by Johnny Gruelle. A companion to the Raggedy Andy Stories, it starts with Marcella visiting her Grandma, who had a quaint old house in the country. When she was there she liked to play up in the attic, for there were so many old forgotten things to find up there. One day, when she had grown tired of playing with the old spinning wheel, she curled up on an old horse-hair sofa to rest. Across the room in a dark corner she spotted an old barrel tucked under the eaves. Wondering what was in it, she set off to explore. Pulling rags and sewing off-cuts from the barrel, like a picture of a very pretty little girl with long curls tied tightly back from her forehead and wearing a long dress and queer pantaloons. And then out of the heap she pulled an old rag doll with only one shoe-button eye and a painted nose and a smiling mouth. Her dress was of soft material, blue with pretty little flowers and dots all over it. And so begins the adventures of Raggedy Ann…… These 12 Raggedy Ann stories are further brought to life with the 67 exquisite illustrations in colour also by Johnny Gruelle. Book The FAIRIES and the CHRISTMAS CHILD

Download or read book The FAIRIES and the CHRISTMAS CHILD written by Lilian Gask and published by Abela Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2020-12-07 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The "Christmas Child" in this book isn't Jesus, but rather a boy born on Christmas Day, named "Chris". After his father forgets both Christmas and Chris’ birthday (not surprising as the father is an impoverished, overworked surgeon) He runs away from home and finds himself in a park, where he meets the fairy-queen. She tells him that all children born on the 25th of December have the gift of talking to the fairy-folk. What follows is an account of Chris’ adventures and meetings with the fairy folk and the stories they tell him. Some of the tales Chris hears, are stories of shape-shifting princesses, doomed supernatural lovers and peasants rewarded for kindness or punished for laziness and cruelty. A fairy persuades a knight who loves her to tear a page from a Bible inscribed with his dead mother's handwriting, When he presents her with the page she laughs, or rather cackles, at him and disappears. But what happens to the knight and the fairy? It is common knowledge that fairies always reward anyone who shows a stranger hospitality. Chris is always treated well by the fairies he encounters, though it's implied that this is only because he has special status as a "Christmas Child". He narrowly avoids being kidnapped by fairy women and forced to spend the rest of his life in an underground city. He is released because he coincidentally mentions the day of his birth. All the stories are accurate to original myths and folklore. In all, this is an endearing, if somewhat forgotten, work of fiction, wonderfully illustrated in colour and black-and-white by the late, great Willy Pogany (August 1882 – July 1955) 10% of the profit from the sale of this book are donated to charity. ===================== KEYWORDS/TAGS: Fairies and the Christmas Child, adventure, folklore, fairy tales, myths, legends, childrens stories, fables, Lilian Gask, Willy Pogany, Fairy Ring, Princess, Sea-Green Hair, Rose-Marie, Poupican, Bird, Window, White Stone, Happiness, Seven, Fair Queens, Pirou, Dwarf, Palace, Silver Horn, Little White Feather, Wild, Huntsman, White Princess, Favourite, Fates, Rock the cradle, fancy, wee brown men, dancing Elves, Fairy Princess, toss, hide, curtain, Madame Marguerite, Lord, Argouges, snow-white bird, Elberich, jeer, Otnit, old man, dance, maiden, Lower, window, rope of pearls, tickle, monster, Pepita, Christmas day, birth, Chris, fairy queen, forest,
