Download or read book The Pie Cookbook written by Diana S. Jones and published by . This book was released on 2020-12-05 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pie making can seem daunting, making the crust perfectly, getting just the right amount of filling without going overboard, baking it just long enough that the crust is crispy and flaky but not overdone. It can seem complicated & intimidating, but it does not have to be. Making pie is fairly simple and easy to do, not complicated and expensive like other recipe books may make it seem. Here are a few of the basics of making a pie, breaking everything down into simple steps so it doesn't seem daunting. Pie making only requires a few simple appliances that most households will have, and if not, it's easy to improvise rather than having to spend money on the appliances most recipes call for. A mixing bowl, spoon or whisk to mix with, a tablespoon, a measuring cup, a pie shaped baking sheet, and a teaspoon are all you need to make an easy and delicious home-made pie crust. Measuring spoons are not necessary, if you don't have them, simply use the table and teaspoons from your cutlery, they measure just the same. A lot of recipes will call for a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the recipe, but I find it's not a necessary tool. If you have one and want to use it, great! If you don't, there's no need to panic, it is not an absolute must have for any recipe. With just these few basic appliances, you are on your way to making a simple and delicious pie. This book covers: Buttermilk Pancake Recipes Pumpkin Pie Recipes Peanut Butter Pie Recipes Pies and Tarts Graham Cracker Crust Pie Recipes Chocolate Mousse Recipes Ice Cream Pie Recipes And much more. There are a few quick techniques that will help when making pies. This will make your pie making adventure easier and will end in a better result. We'll start with some tips on making the perfect and easy pie crust. The first tip is your ingredients and appliances should be very cold. The best way to ruin a flaky crust is overworked your butter or have it warm. It's a really good idea to stick your butter and your flour in the freezer for a few minutes to make sure they're chilled enough, even sticking the appliance you'll be using to cut the butter in the freezer is a good idea. The colder the butter, the flakier your crust will be.If you have some on hand, add a little bit of apple cider vinegar while making your crust. If you add it while you're adding ice water, it helps keep your crust from getting tough during the pie making process. If you don't have any available to you, that's fine as well, it's not a necessary addition. Let your dough take a break for about an hour after you've mixed it. It helps makes it easier to roll out when you get to that step. It is always good to give it some time to breathe, but it's not absolutely necessary if you need to get the crust made faster. To know more about pie making, read this book!

Download or read book United States of Pie written by Adrienne Kane and published by Ecco. This book was released on 2012-05-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An utterly charming collection of regional heirloom American pies, from long-lost recipes to classic favorites, sweetly illustrated and chock-full of time-tested baking tips and secrets for perfect pies Before cooking shows and celebrity chefs there were church dinners, community bake sales, and county fairs—events for which regular women made and served their prized family recipes, especially for that homiest and most American of desserts, pie. In the United States of Pie, Adrienne Kane invites readers on a journey back in time as she scours the country for—and shares—those recipes: the pies that have come to define culinary traditions from the West Coast to the East Coast, from the Midwest to the South. Sourced from old newspaper clippings, out-of-print cookbooks, housekeeping guides, and the spiral-bound, mimeographed booklets of church groups and community associations, the recipes in the United States of Pie showcase the innovative spirit of American home cooks in the era before processed foods and flavorless, imported produce took over grocery shelves. Here, tested and updated for contemporary palates and with an emphasis on local, seasonal fruit and dairy products, are both re-imagined classics and newly invented creations that celebrate sharing lovingly homemade desserts with friends and family. And whether you're serving up slices of Meyer Lemon Cream Pie, Concord Grape Pie, or Burnt Sugar Meringue Pie, your lucky guests will definitely ask for seconds. With helpful sidebars on baking tips and techniques ranging from the best thickeners for fruit pies to why home bakers should embrace corn syrup, a chapter dedicated to how to make the perfect pie crust, and charming, insightful essays on pie-making traditions around the country, the United States of Pie is more than just a cookbook; it's a must-have baking resource for novice and expert pie makers alike.

Book Easy As Pie

Download or read book Easy As Pie written by Benjamin Darling and published by Vintage Lifestyle. This book was released on 2010-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recipe booklets and pamphlets were very popular in the first half of the 20th century and were given away as a premium to help cooks learn to use products (largely foodstuffs and appliances) to best advantage. Given that the recipes carried the brand, justified the purchase, and, if successful, encouraged repeat use of the product, great effort was made to make the best and tastiest recipes possible. Thus recipe pamphlets contain some wonderful recipes. Pies seem somehow to be a quintessentially American dish, hence the expression "as American as apple pie" and the musical question, "Can she make a cherry pie, Charming Billy?" Pies recall a bygone age when they cooled on the kitchen windowsill and were always in danger of being stolen by hungry boys. Easy As Pie includes all manner of pie recipes, fruit, nut chocolate and cream fillings, as well as a few pastry and piecrust recipes and tips. Wherever possible we have striven to be faithful to the original recipe, in some cases when it seemed that the recipe was either wrong to begin with or that tastes had changed to such an extent that most would be disappointed with the result, we have made minor corrections.

Book The Hoosier Mama Book of Pie

Download or read book The Hoosier Mama Book of Pie written by Paula Haney and published by Agate Publishing. This book was released on 2013-08-13 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Making a delicious pie has never been easier with this extensive cookbook from the popular Chicago bakery. When Paula Haney first opened the Hoosier Mama Pie Company on March 14, 2009 (Pi day, appropriately enough), she worried whether her new business could survive by specializing in just one thing. But with a line around the block, Paula realized she had a more immediate problem: had she made enough pie? The shop closed early that day, but it has been churning out plenty of the Chicago’s most delectable pies ever since. Specializing in hand-made, artisanal pies that only use locally sourced and in-season ingredients, Hoosier Mama Pie Company has become a local favorite and a national destination gaining praise from Bon Appetit, the Food Network, and Food & Wine as one of the top pie shops in the country. Now, The Hoosier Mama Book of Pie delivers all the sumptuous secrets of buttery crusts, fruity fillings, creams and custards, chess pies, over-the-top pies, and even the stout and hearty savory pie. The practically oriented, easy-going, and accessible style of this book will help bakers both new and old make the perfect pie for every occasion. On top of all of this, The Hoosier Mama Book of Pie also includes tips on technique, fascinating historical anecdotes, and an emphasis on special seasonal recipes, as well as quiches, hand pies, and scones. This beautifully photographed and designed book has the classic retro feel of the mid-20th century golden age of pie, and all the warmth and personality of the Hoosier Mama Pie Co.’s cozy Chicago storefront. The focus on using local produce and employing the farm-to-table philosophy gives the book a contemporary twist, helping home bakers make the freshest, most delicious pies imaginable. Now readers can take a little piece of the Hoosier Mama Pie Company anywhere they go. Praise for the Hoosier Mama Book of Pie “Paula Haney . . . just put out a massive cookbook with her recipes . . . and it’s something very special. The almost-400-page tome details Hoosier Mama’s opening and development, as well as Haney’s recipes for everything from crust to biscuits to custard fillings. The photos make everything look delicious and, to the above-average baker, everything seems relatively easy to execute.” —Marah Eakin, The AV Club “Everything you could possibly want to know about proper pie making is covered . . . No facet of the process is too humble for discussion; the merits of salt in the crust is given as much thought as the best way to combine butter and flour. If you’ve ever wanted to learn the right way to crimp a pie, or how to make lattice work actually work, this is the book for you.” —Serious Eats, naming Hoosier Mama a top dessert cookbook of 2013
