Book excerpt: An experiment in a weird book causes four young Americans, Nathan, Perry, Melissa, and Michelle to appear in an incredibly strange and desolate world. Trees as large as mountains, scattered across the land like oases, support all life, safe from the monsters that patrol the night fog on the ground. Races of people living in medieval societies populate the giant trees. Known as the Lorns in this particular tree, they welcome the four kids into their worlduntil Hellferata, the evil spirit descendent of Medusa, intrudes upon their beloved tree. & ;Full of vivid imagery and unbridled creativity, D. G. Sandru's debut is as a mystical journey of enchantment, courage and the power of friendship. As the kids search for a way home, Hellferata searches for the prophesized mortal superhero she must battle to the death. Suspecting Michelle for this golden-haired superhero, Hellferata sends her son, Dracu Mort, into the Lorn Tree to kill her. Fearful of the evil spirit the Lorns move to expel the four Americans from their tree. Thinking quickly, the kids devise a plan to avoid the monsters roaming the land and travel to the next tree, where it is rumored there may be a path back home. Will their ingenuity, cunning, and courage help them make it to the Cascade Tree and find a way home, or will Hellferata and Dracu Mort mete out their wrath before they can escape?& ;A dramatic and heroic escape into a world full of excitement and danger, Sandru brings to life a beautiful landscape dramatically different than our own yet living from the same heartbeat. Imparting the inspiring message that fear is but a passing foil and love is the true answer, Arboregal: The Lorn Tree is a spiritual quest of hope and friendship that exposes the inherent power we all share. & ;

Book The Steward Living in Covenant

Download or read book The Steward Living in Covenant written by Ronald E. Vallet and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Steward Living in Covenant discusses the theme of stewardship from a fruitful new perspective. Ronald Vallet explores Old Testament stories from creation to Isaiah, linking the life of the steward to the theme of covenant -- a first for books in this area. Written as an Old Testament parallel to Vallet's acclaimed Stepping Stones of the Steward, this book reclaims the Old Testament foundations of a fully biblical theology of stewardship. Vallet looks especially at the promise and command aspects of God's covenant with his people as a vital dimension of what it means to be a genuine steward.

Book The Tiki Room

Download or read book The Tiki Room written by Cathy Nolan Vincevic and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Tiki Room," plunges the reader into a vision both elegiac, and horrifying, chronicling the struggles of my family. The landscapes are stoic, small town New Hampshire, during the 1950's, where I lived with my beloved grandparents, contrasted against the cruelty of life with my mother in Phoenix, Arizona, during the1960's and my husband's story in Bosnia and in the diaspora. The coalescence of these environments, and some of the tragic consequences, have been passages filled with destruction, loss, and renewal. I have often found myself listening to people tell their stories. People who had never talked about their past would suddenly stop what they were doing and tell me extraordinary things, painful things, that brought soundlessness to my mind. Hearing these narratives I felt a voice inside of me that wanted to respond with my own story. I never allowed myself, until now, because it felt selfish to mention that I had suffered too. The silence created barriers of anger and sadness within me that were hard to breach. That I broke through that barricade by writing has been one of the great surprises of my life. I started out as a visual artist, the painting on the cover is my work, and in other media such as fireworks, and performance art. My work has been seen throughout New England and internationally through artist exchanges in Macedonia and Croatia. Currently, I am the Director of the Allenstown Public Library in Allenstown, New Hampshire. This book began during my undergraduate work at Vermont College and finished during my graduate studies at Goddard College. The award winning poet/writer Nehassaiu DeGannes wrote this about my work: "Your memoir is achingly beautiful, exquisitely written, and handled with such deftness and depth, it most certainly demonstrates patient self-reflection, mastery of craft and form as well as a literary tenderness. At times the level of remembered detail, the sensory, the natural world---and your ability to find a language capable of containing your internal landscape, in sentences which flow as naturally as breath, is quite stunning. I am in admiration of your work. I am in admiration of your life." Thank you my brothers and sisters for being there.

A diligent student of remarkable talent, Lorn lacks only the single most coveted attribute required of a Magus of Cyador: unquestionable loyalty. Book Middle earth Minstrel

Download or read book Middle earth Minstrel written by Bradford Lee Eden and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2010-04-13 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twentieth century witnessed a dramatic rise in fantasy writing and few works became as popular or have endured as long as the novels of J.R.R. Tolkien. Surprisingly, little critical attention has been paid to the presence of music in his novels. This collection of essays explores the multitude of musical-literary allusions and themes intertwined throughout Tolkien's body of work. Of particular interest is Tolkien's scholarly work with medieval music and its presentation and performance practice, as well as the musical influences of his Victorian and Edwardian background. Discographies of Tolkien-influenced music of the 20th and 21st centuries are included.

Book Escape from Communism

Download or read book Escape from Communism written by Dumitru Sandru and published by Chivileri Publishing. This book was released on 2013-11-10 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life under communism is cruel and inhumane. Commit the smallest political infraction, and the secret police will arrest you. The only ray of hope is the West, but getting out from communism is difficult. Communist countries have a “Berlin Wall” around them. It is a crime to escape by crossing the border illegally, and anyone caught is beaten and imprisoned, sometimes even shot. I was eighteen, and I was living in hell. However, I would rather have died than keep living as a communist slave. This is my story of what happened and how I reached freedom.

Book The Chronicles of Arax Book Three

Download or read book The Chronicles of Arax Book Three written by Ben Sanford and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2023-02-16 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "You are not alone, son of Lore, Yah reassured me, lifting my spirit. 'Twas then he revealed my brothers, brothers not of blood, but of spirit, who would stand by my side to contest Tyro's dominion. You, Terin, are one of my true brothers, sent by Yah in our time of greatest need. Your birth was foretold long ago, long before King Vantor II of the Middle Kingdom revealed the prophecy of the one to find the lost Sword of the Moon. Your birth was foretold long before the rise and fall of ancient Tarelia. Your birth was revealed to Kal himself before he fell in battle, a divine vision from Yah to his most faithful servant. You are his only descendent, his line dying or living through you and you alone. It is through you that his divine gift endures, the power to strip gargoyles of their courage and sense. Against you, they cannot stand. It is Kal's blood that enables you to call upon such power, Kal's blood that ordains you a child of prophecy. It is Kal's blood that calls out to the Swords of Light, drawing you to them, their own power symbiotic to your own. In my hand, your sword can cut through any object and would guide my hand to preserve my life. In your hand, it is so much more, enhancing your power to drive off gargoyles tenfold. The swords were forged for the descendants of Kal. They were forged for you." --Prince Lorn at the siege of Mosar While the Torries and Jenaii celebrate their victory at Corell, the battle in Yatin grows dire, forcing difficult choices on Princess Corry. As acting regent of the northern realm, she is faced with a war-torn land bracing for winter, while her brother fights a desperate battle far away. Heeding her council, she lends him the only aid she can, much to her misgivings. At Corell, Cronus must again bid his beloved Leanna farewell, undertaking a delicate mission on behalf the realm, while Elos helps Alen set his own course in the fight against his former masters. To the east, Morac's legions limp into winter quarters at Notsu, licking their wounds, while their lord plots his revenge. In the Ape Empire, General Matuzak hosts the Earthers, inviting them to aid him in establishing a republic. At Fera, Tyro obsesses over the carvings in Terin's charm, consumed with the possibilities it portends, while Tosha prepares her return to her mother's isle with child and without her consort, preparing for an uncertain reception. Before journeying to Yatin, Terin's father confides in him the great and terrible truth that plagues his past and threatens their future, a truth that shakes Terin to his very core, casting doubt over everything he knows. He must carry this terrible burden into battle, helping his future king in saving an age-old enemy of their people against the greater threat threatening to consume them all. As the war expands throughout Arax, the fate of the Torry Realms hangs in the balance, their only hope for survival dependent on the battle of Yatin.
