Book The Esoteric Basis of Christianity or Theosophy and Christian Doctrine

Download or read book The Esoteric Basis of Christianity or Theosophy and Christian Doctrine written by William Kingsland and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Esoteric Basis of Christianity, or Theosophy and Christian Doctrine: A Paper Read Before the Blavatsky Lodge of the Theosophical Society The particular point however to which I wish to direct your attention, and which is a fundamental one before we can establish any relation between Theosophy and Christian Doctrine, is this: that in the nature of things, in the nature of history, of human progress and development, in the nature of man's capacity for growth, for the expansion of his limited and relative mind and consciousness, in the nature of the universe itself, there is and must be an inner and an outer, an esoteric and an exoteric; an outward form, and an inner meaning; an outward expression, temporary, finite, mutable, an inner principle, eternal, unvarying. If there be any reality whatever, underlying what we term phenomena, the objective changeable world of sense and form, that reality must constitute an inner mystery, which is a mystery simply on account of our inability to sense and cognise it, owing to our limited faculties. And if there be any reality in that growth, development, or evolution, which is the most prominent factor in our experience, that reality consists in our coming into more and more intimate conscious relation to this inner principle which underlies phenomena; consists in an apprehension of the noumena; in the casting-off of the temporary illusion of form, of that bondage of the senses which causes attachment to form, attachment to the impermanent and temporary, whereby the permanent and eternal is lost sight of; consists, in short, of the development of that faculty which cognises unity in diversity; or in a word consists of - spirituality. In theosophical language this faculty resides in the fifth principle, or Manas, in the immortal spiritual Ego. (See diagram, page 23.) But setting aside specific theosophical doctrines, let us see what relation this principle of an inner spiritual reality and an outer expression in form, and of a corresponding evolution or expansion of human consciousness from particulars to universals, bears to the subject before us. Book Becoming Aware of the Logos

Download or read book Becoming Aware of the Logos written by Georg Kühlewind and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 1985 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "To become aware of the Logos is to become aware of the Logos in oneself.... The world speaks. Before all else, it utters speaking itself. Or does speaking utter the world." So begin the first two chapters of this inspired, existential meditation on the contemporary meaning of the message of St. John: "In the beginning was the Word." Through this Word--Logos--all things became. In it was life, the light of human beings. It shown I the darkness, and the darkness received it not. It was in the world, and the world did not know it. It entered individual being, and, to those who received it, it gave the ability to become the children of God. Its radiance was seen, full of grace and truth. The fruit of many years of study and meditation, Becoming Aware of the Logos places the reader in the world of living thinking and cognitive love. It teaches the way of grace and truth in a radical, original manner. For the Logos, although it is the ground of any true logic, is beyond ordinary dialectic. The author does not approach his subject conventionally, but penetrates and communicates it by unfolding central themes such as: the Logos in the beginning; the light in the darkness; the speaker; life; spirit; grace; and truth. "A single human being has no reality; the existence of 'man' begins with the word that floats between I and you. The Logos connects human beings through the Word; all else is temptation or a temporary connection." -- Georg Kühlewind

Book Growing a Soul on the Planet Earth

Download or read book Growing a Soul on the Planet Earth written by Ron Levitan and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-05-25 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us think there are only two possible answers to the question: Do you have a soul? Either we have a soul, which will live beyond death, or there is no such thing as a soul, and when we die, nothing of us remains. But what if neither of those answers is correct? What if, instead, we are not born with a soul, but we have the possibility of growing one? Our potential for growing a soul was recognized by early gnostic Christians who practiced esoteric Christianity, which dates back to and originated in ancient pre-sand Egypt. It is a sacred science of being, a long hidden, esoteric teaching that G. I. Gurdjieff brought to the West early in the last century and is called the Fourth Way.How do we grow a soul? Gurdjieff tells us, The whole secret is that one cannot work for a future life without working for this one. We must learn how to be present to ourselves in each moment, to integrate body, senses, mind. The techniques and practices Gurdjieff brought in the Fourth Way can show us how. Is there life after death? Thats the primordial human question. Yes, you have a soul. How do you know? Isnt it just societal belief? If you have no soulokay, heres how to live after dying. (William Patrick Patterson, author of Georgi Ivanovitch Gurdjieff: The Man, The Teaching, His Mission) For those who have felt the wish or recognized the need to grow in themselves something higher, the Levitans introduce Gurdjieffs authentic way of self-transformation to do so. They also explore other ways stemming from the same source, throughout centuries and millennia up to the present time, showing how Gurdjieff presented methods that completed what had been mostly lost, forgotten, or left out. (Mary Ellen Korman, author of A Womans Work with Gurdjieff, Ramana Maharshi, Krishnamurti, Anandamayi Ma & Pak Subuh) Essential reading conveying with unique clarity and directness a distillation of the deep spiritual ideas contained in Gurdjieffs Fourth Way teaching. Faced with the question of soul, Ron and Claire Levitan lead us to the deep esoteric meaning of that word and the responsibility it carries in giving significance to our lives, the Earth and beyond. Gurdjieffs language of neologisms, often inaccessible, is presented in a straightforward manner, explaining the direct path to higher consciousness and conscience. If youve ever wondered what soul is or what is meant by growing a soulthis is the book youve been waiting for. (Teresa Adams, instructor, Haida yoga, the Online Fourth Way School)

Download or read book The True Church of Christ written by J. W. Brodie-Innes and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This papers were originally intended for those specially familiar with Oriental philosophies and modes of thought, an attempt has therefore been made to translate the language of Western Christian teaching as to the origin and functions of the Church into Eastern phraseology. In republishing the papers with a view, it is hoped, to a wider circulation, it became necessary to explain somewhat of this phraseology. Therefore a paper by the same author on the Seven Prtnctples of Man as understood by the Eastern schools (a conception which has been largely used as an analogy in these papers) has been added as an appendix, and a glossary of the Sanskrit and other Theosophical terms used in the work has been appended, which it is hoped will make the papers quite clear to the average Western mind. First, then, I write not for those who have been truly trained in the faith and doctrines of the Church, for to them all the knowledge I can impart has come in a far more perfect as well as easier way than any we could suggest. I would emphasize the word truly, for I mean the esoteric members of the Church, whose faith is not a blind faith, but a deep and genuine spiritual knowledge. We write not for the indifferent, having no desire to propose, least of all to gain those who have no backbone.

Book excerpt: Coleston Brown—scholar and expert on the esoteric Christian traditions—reaches far beyond any other book of its genre to bring us a truly experiential form of Christianity. Drawing on the myths, legends, lore, and symbols inherent in the Christian tradition, Brown reveals the potential in all of us to use, as he does, Magical Christianity as a practice for healing and regenerating the spirit. Brown combines the insights he gained as a student under Gareth Knight, a renowned authority on Kabbalistic magic, with his own study of ancient texts and practice of the esoteric Christian tradition, developing this new work, the official text and formal course of training in what is now known as the Western Magical Tradition. Readers will be captivated by the symbols Brown covers in this book, including the sphere, the holy fire, the wheel of life, and the planes of being. He even details the magical power of sacred architecture rich in the Christian tradition as a basis for magical practice. This revised edition also includes an experiential meditation at the end of each chapter and a CD of guided meditations to bring readers more deeply into the transformative power of Christian symbolism.

Download or read book Hidden Wisdom written by Gedaliahu A. Guy Stroumsa and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2005 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the problem of esoteric traditions in early Christianity, their origin and their transformation in Patristic hermeneutics, in the West as well as in the East. It argues that these traditions eventually formed the basis of nascent Christian mysticism in Late Antiquity. These esoteric traditions do not reflect the influence of Greek Mystery religions, as has often been claimed, but rather seem to stem from the Jewish background of Christianity. They were adopted by various Gnostic teachings, a fact which helps explaining their eventual disappearance from Patristic literature. The eleven chapters study each a different aspect of the problem, including the questions of Gnostic and Manichaean esotericism. This book will be of interest to all students of religious history in Late Antiquity. Revised and extended paperback edition. Originally published in 1996. Please click here for details.

Book The Inner Church is the Hope of the World

Download or read book The Inner Church is the Hope of the World written by Nicholas Laccetti and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-08-09 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history, Western esoteric movements have provided meaning and power for what the Rosicrucians of the early modern period called the quest for "Universal Reformation"--the utopian restructuring of religion, science, the arts, and human society. Yet Western esotericism has been roundly ignored as a source of reflection in mainstream Christian theology, including the radical theologies of liberation that might otherwise see in esotericism a kindred spirit to their commitment to radical social change. In The Inner Church is the Hope of the World, guided by his work in contemporary movements for social change, Nicholas Laccetti puts Western esotericism in dialogue with liberation theology, treating esotericism as a legitimate source of spiritual and theological insight. If, as Gustavo Gutierrez writes, "God is revealed in history," then we will also encounter God within the particular history of human religious expression that is Western esotericism. And from these theological reflections, the Inner Church of the esotericists, occultists, and mystics is revealed to be the true ekklesia of all who have conformed themselves to God's vision of freedom and liberation, and who struggle to enact that vision in human society. The Inner Church is truly the hope of the world.

Book excerpt: Then shall the candidate be bound upon the wooden cross . . . After the third day he shall be brought back from the dead and carried up to heaven to be on the right hand of Him from whom he came. Surprisingly, these lines are from an Egyptian initiation ritual thousands of years before the Christian drama. Linking the two is just one fascinating element in this profound introduction to esoteric Christianity, as timely today as when it was first published in 1920. Famed clairvoyant Charles Webster Leadbeater was a bishop of the Liberal Catholic Church, which preserves the sacraments while interpreting the scriptures with maximum freedom. He quotes St. Augustine himself saying that what we now call Christianity emerged at the very beginning of humanity as the one true religion. To access its transformative force, Leadbeater returns to original teachings and decodes its story symbolically as a guide for direct knowledge (Gr: gnosis) of the Divine. “As Christ had the Godhead behind Him, so have we the same power, although not yet unfolded as fully,” he says. “Nevertheless, it is only a question of development, and that development is certain.” With the authority of a scientist and a mystic, he addresses such topics as the birth of Christ in the heart; God’s utter love; divine grace; angelic help; the true meaning of salvation; and reincarnation and the evolution of the soul.
