Book Christianity the Logic of Creation

Download or read book Christianity the Logic of Creation written by Henry James and published by Warren Press. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREFACE. THE Author of this very practical treatise on Scotch Loch - Fishing desires clearly that it may be of use to all who had it. He does not pretend to have written anything new, but to have attempted to put what he has to say in as readable a form as possible. Everything in the way of the history and habits of fish has been studiously avoided, and technicalities have been used as sparingly as possible. The writing of this book has afforded him pleasure in his leisure moments, and that pleasure would be much increased if he knew that the perusal of it would create any bond of sympathy between himself and the angling community in general. This section is interleaved with blank shects for the readers notes. The Author need hardly say that any suggestions addressed to the case of the publishers, will meet with consideration in a future edition. We do not pretend to write or enlarge upon a new subject. Much has been said and written-and well said and written too on the art of fishing but loch-fishing has been rather looked upon as a second-rate performance, and to dispel this idea is one of the objects for which this present treatise has been written. Far be it from us to say anything against fishing, lawfully practised in any form but many pent up in our large towns will bear us out when me say that, on the whole, a days loch-fishing is the most convenient. One great matter is, that the loch-fisher is depend- ent on nothing but enough wind to curl the water, -and on a large loch it is very seldom that a dead calm prevails all day, -and can make his arrangements for a day, weeks beforehand whereas the stream- fisher is dependent for a good take on the state of the water and however pleasant and easy it may be for one living near the banks of a good trout stream or river, it is quite another matter to arrange for a days river-fishing, if one is looking forward to a holiday at a date some weeks ahead. Providence may favour the expectant angler with a good day, and the water in order but experience has taught most of us that the good days are in the minority, and that, as is the case with our rapid running streams, -such as many of our northern streams are, -the water is either too large or too small, unless, as previously remarked, you live near at hand, and can catch it at its best. A common belief in regard to loch-fishing is, that the tyro and the experienced angler have nearly the same chance in fishing, -the one from the stern and the other from the bow of the same boat. Of all the absurd beliefs as to loch-fishing, this is one of the most absurd. Try it. Give the tyro either end of the boat he likes give him a cast of ally flies he may fancy, or even a cast similar to those which a crack may be using and if he catches one for every three the other has, he may consider himself very lucky. Of course there are lochs where the fish are not abundant, and a beginner may come across as many as an older fisher but we speak of lochs where there are fish to be caught, and where each has a fair chance. Again, it is said that the boatman has as much to do with catching trout in a loch as the angler. Well, we dont deny that. In an untried loch it is necessary to have the guidance of a good boatman but the same argument holds good as to stream-fishing...

Book A Logical Case For God And Creation

Download or read book A Logical Case For God And Creation written by Jerry Smith and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Logical Case for God and Creation first takes the reader through a logical look at whether it is reasonable to believe that the Bible is true and that God exists. Then looking at the universe-including the existence of billions of galaxies and trillions of stars, the planets that make up the universe and our solar system-the author argues it is not possible for the universe to have come about by accident or as a result of an accidental "big bang." Then considering our marvelous bodies, the massive number of other species on this earth, the beauty of the flora and fauna, and the tremendous resources available to us, he demonstrates that it is not probable or possible for all that exists to have evolved over millions of years, or come about without a design or a designer. The author points out, "To say that we evolved is an insult to our God given, human ability to reason, and to our intellectual capacity to logically evaluate the truth." Finally, considering the harmonious nature of the universe, the author further demonstrates that it is not logical to believe that the trillions upon trillions of objects being propelled through space at such incredible speeds could have accidentally fallen into such a harmonious and orchestrated relationship to each other. Absent these objects having been purposely put into a predetermined, perpetual path in our incredible universe by an intelligent designer, logic would suggest that the universe would be in complete chaos without a design.

Book excerpt: This new edition of A Window to the Divine presents a summary of developments on a number of basic questions pertaining to creation theology and what a synthesis might look like at this time. It is based on the premise that contemporary believers can sense a remarkably rich communication of the divine mystery through the insights of science, and that the sciences may open even richer and more challenging possibilities to the understanding of our tradition. "Our tradition is rooted in the belief that however the universe may look empirically, it is precisely this universe described to us at the empirical level by the sciences that our faith holds to be the fruit of God's creative knowledge and love. It is my hope that these reflections may help us discover in what sense this universe may truly be seen as a window to the mystery of the divine." --from the preface to A Window to the Divine

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theologian Harry Lee Poe and chemist Jimmy H. Davis argue that God's interaction with our world is a possibility affirmed equally by the Bible and the contemporary scientific record. Rather than confirming that the cosmos is closed to the actions of the divine, advancing scientific knowledge seems to indicate that the nature of the universe is actually open to the unique type of divine activity portrayed in the Bible.

Book God s Gift of the Universe

Download or read book God s Gift of the Universe written by Paul O'Callaghan and published by CUA Press. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many ways of understanding the reality of the world we live in and experience. Science, philosophy, art all offer us ample descriptions, explanations and intuitions. But Christian believers go beyond all that, for they attempt to understand the origins of the universe in terms of the creation of the world by God. Revelation tells us what God had in mind when he made the world ex nihilo, without presuppositions of any kind. God’s Gift of the Universe attempts to present the principal elements and stages of creation theology. The doctrine is to be found fundamentally, of course, in Scripture, both Old and New Testament, which describes the world in the light of God’s word. Yet since God actually gave existence to the world, down to the last detail, our reflection on God’s word not only explains the reality of creation, how it works, its nature, as science does. It also explains how creation came into being in the mind and heart of the Triune God, and, ultimately, why God created the world. In God’s Gift of the Universe, a considerable effort has been spent throughout the book on the Christological and Trinitarian aspects of creation, particularly in the theology of Church Fathers. Creation is presented besides in a deeply eschatological key, for God created the world for purpose of making his glory eternally manifest. The book also considers the way God ‘intervenes’ in the life of the created world, through conservation in being and providence. The meaning of time, matter and spirit are considered. The need for ecological awareness is central. One aspect of the mystery of creation that receives special attention is the presence of evil in the world. This is of particular importance once we accept that God made the world, whole and entire, thus assuming responsibility for the world as it is. The origin of evil through the sin of spiritual creatures provides the ultimate though not the only explanation of the mystery of evil. Particular consideration is given to the reality of ‘original sin’.

Book The Model of Everything

  • Author : Ralph Brown
  • Publisher : Covenant Books, Inc.
  • Release : 2021-01-06
  • ISBN : 1646705807

Download or read book The Model of Everything written by Ralph Brown and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-01-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When humanity questions the purpose of existence, they often turn to science or religion for answers. Unfortunately, both science and religion contain inconsistencies. These inconsistencies touch the human spirit in the most profound ways, resulting in an uneasiness about life. "Do I really have a purpose?" Seeking to address the spiritual unease, the history of humanity documents the development and pursuit of religion with a concept of a divine creator with a plan for humanity. However, in more recent history with an increasing emphasis on scientific knowledge, the concept of a divine creator is increasingly discounted as inconsistent with the material world revealed by scientific discovery. Via the scientific method, humanity is turning its focus to the material world, creating new gods of science and the purveyors of scientific knowledge. But rather than provide definitive answers, as science continues to advance, the theories of creation point increasingly to inconclusive and inconsistent results. These shortcomings of science are often veiled in the expression "Someday, we will know," but many in the scientific community are beginning to question that hope. With science and religion each plagued with inconsistency, perhaps appropriately integrating them will lead us to the real answers we seek! The Model of Everything-A Divine Universe relies on both scientific and biblical knowledge to fully integrate science and religion in a consistent, complementary, and interdependent fashion. This confluence and synergy of knowledge reveal a comprehensive model that accounts for the totality of human existence-the physical and spiritual. The reader, via personal and straightforward experiments, participates in developing the model. Biblical knowledge is the pointer for a unique application of scientific knowledge. Then, the incredible and sometimes bizarre world of science reveals how God teaches us about our existence and spirituality. The integration of scientific and biblical knowledge results in several new mental constructs, providing an account for the totality of creation-the material and immaterial-and a genuine hope and understanding of personal existence. The model presents some eye-popping implications and applications as well as predictions on future scientific progress and outcomes. Each reader is invited and encouraged to become a scientist; a scientist prepared to chart a life-changing personal discovery.

Book The Logic of God Incarnate

Download or read book The Logic of God Incarnate written by Thomas V. Morris and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2001-04-06 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a philosophical examination of the logical problems associated with the claim that Jesus of Nazareth was one and the same person as God the Son, the Second Person of the divine Trinity. How can a being or person who is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, etc., have become human given that humans are limited in knowledge and beset with weaknesses? Unless this belief in the incarnation is to be dismissed as pious sentimentality, a philosophical case must be made for at least the possible rationality of the idea. Tom Morris makes such an attempt in this book. Indeed, although it claims only to be arguing that the idea of God Incarnate is not impossible, The Logic of God Incarnate confronts the preponderance of modem philosophical argumentation against the incarnation and manages to put the traditional doctrine in a quite plausible light.
