Book excerpt: Back cover: The universe is not the fruit of a series of random, chaotic, and blind events. Rather, nature is the manifestation of a work full of intelligent science and wisdom always faithful to and constant with itself. In the search for the original, authentic universe, only the great science of alchemy--founded on the principle that everything works as a whole, in close unity, and is all subdued to the same forces of equilibrium or disequilibrium in origin--has the power to expose the multiple faces of life and death. In Equilibrium, author Josu Roussel diligently explores the basis of the principle of universal equilibrium. This progressive study refines our perceptions in identifying the nature of balance and imbalance in the universe. Rather than being based on an intuitive inspiration, the science of alchemy exclusively provides an interpretation of the dual forces of good and evil--with truth emblazoned on one side and illusion on another. This science of the absolute establishes a close association between the physical world and the invisible world. Nothing is random since every single phenomenon we see and feel means something. Is there truth in spiritual revelation? And how can we make sense of all this? This innovative approach to both science and spirituality through alchemy will ultimately serve as the cornerstone of a series of works related to various themes associated with universal sciences. Building the philosophers stone becomes the ultimate lever of alchemy, and its breakthroughs will be demystified like never before!

Book Making Monsters

  • Author : David Livingstone Smith
  • Publisher : Harvard University Press
  • Release : 2021-10-12

  • Pages : 353 pages

Download or read book Making Monsters written by David Livingstone Smith and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2021-10-12 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading scholar explores what it means to dehumanize othersÑand how and why we do it. ÒI wouldnÕt have accepted that they were human beings. You would see an infant whoÕs just learning to smile, and it smiles at you, but you still kill it.Ó So a Hutu man explained to an incredulous researcher, when asked to recall how he felt slaughtering Tutsis in Rwanda in 1994. Such statements are shocking, yet we recognize them; we hear their echoes in accounts of genocides, massacres, and pogroms throughout history. How do some people come to believe that their enemies are monsters, and therefore easy to kill? In Making Monsters David Livingstone Smith offers a poignant meditation on the philosophical and psychological roots of dehumanization. Drawing on harrowing accounts of lynchings, Smith establishes what dehumanization is and what it isnÕt. When we dehumanize our enemy, we hold two incongruous beliefs at the same time: we believe our enemy is at once subhuman and fully human. To call someone a monster, then, is not merely a resort to metaphorÑdehumanization really does happen in our minds. Turning to an abundance of historical examples, Smith explores the relationship between dehumanization and racism, the psychology of hierarchy, what it means to regard others as human beings, and why dehumanizing others transforms them into something so terrifying that they must be destroyed. Meticulous but highly readable, Making Monsters suggests that the process of dehumanization is deeply seated in our psychology. It is precisely because we are all human that we are vulnerable to the manipulations of those trading in the politics of demonization and violence.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following the spatial turn in the humanities and social sciences, Spatial Literary Studies: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Space, Geography, and the Imagination offers a wide range of essays that reframe or transform contemporary criticism by focusing attention, in various ways, on the dynamic relations among space, place, and literature. These essays reflect upon the representation of space and place, whether in the real world, in imaginary universes, or in those hybrid zones where fiction meets reality. Working within or alongside related approaches, such as geocriticism, literary geography, and the spatial humanities, these essays examine the relationship between literary spatiality and different genres or media, such as film or television. The contributors to Spatial Literary Studies draw upon diverse critical and theoretical traditions in disclosing, analyzing, and exploring the significance of space, place, and mapping in literature and in the world, thus making new textual geographies and literary cartographies possible.

  • Pages : 559 pages

Book excerpt: If one is looking for answers to the meaning of life and how to make a happier, richer existence—e.g., relationships, finances, health—then Neville’s teaching from personal experience, testimonies from students, and his amazing visions paralleling and explaining the mysteries of the Old and New Testament will answer those questions. Learn his techniques, unleash your power to create, believe in your imaginal acts, and no power in this world can stop the desired results from appearing in your world. It’s the only creative power, one that everyone is operating moment to moment. Learning how to direct it deliberately is essential to producing loving, positive changes in one’s life. These 1963 lectures also begin a nine-year odyssey of discovering the deepest meanings of six visions of the End that had unfolded in Neville (1959–1963). The visions are the signs that this long journey as limited man, the terrible opacity and contraction, is over, that the purpose of human life has been completed—man has endured and overcome six thousand years of amnesia plus the fires of experience and has emerged victorious. He’s been transformed by his inner being (I AM, God) back into the divinity he truly is . . . and always was.
