Download or read book The Friday Afternoon Club written by Griffin Dunne and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2024-06-11 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instant New York Times bestseller! “Warm and perceptive.” —New York Times “Griffin Dunne knows how to tell a story." —Washington Post "Dunne is a prospector for the incandescent detail.” —Los Angeles Times “What a remarkable and moving story filled with twists and turns, the most famous of faces, and a complex family revealed with loving candor. I was blown away by Griffin Dunne’s life and his ability to capture so much of it in these beautifully written pages.” —Anderson Cooper Griffin Dunne’s memoir of growing up among larger-than-life characters in Hollywood and Manhattan finds wicked humor and glimmers of light in even the most painful of circumstances At eight, Sean Connery saved him from drowning. At thirteen, desperate to hook up with Janis Joplin, he attended his aunt Joan Didion and uncle John Gregory Dunne’s legendary LA launch party for Tom Wolfe’s The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. At sixteen, he got kicked out of boarding school, ending his institutional education for good. In his early twenties, he shared an apartment in Manhattan’s Hotel Des Artistes with his best friend and soulmate Carrie Fisher while she was filming some sci-fi movie called Star Wars and he was a struggling actor working as a popcorn concessionaire at Radio City Music Hall. A few years later, he produced and starred in the now-iconic film After Hours, directed by Martin Scorsese. In the midst of it all, Griffin’s twenty-two-year-old sister, Dominique, a rising star in Hollywood, was brutally strangled to death by her ex-boyfriend, leading to one of the most infamous public trials of the 1980s. The outcome was a travesty of justice that marked the beginning of their father Dominick Dunne’s career as a crime reporter for Vanity Fair and a victims' rights activist. And yet, for all its boldface cast of characters and jaw-dropping scenes, The Friday Afternoon Club is no mere celebrity memoir. It is, down to its bones, a family story that embraces the poignant absurdities and best and worst efforts of its loveable, infuriating, funny, and moving characters—its author most of all.
Download or read book On the Trail written by Brad Curtis and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-10-28 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a pastor of Mountain Top Cowboy Church I have discovered that there is little material designed specifically for cowboy churches or cowboy ministries. Although I have been in the ministry for 14 years I had never considered writing a book however the Lord had other plans. In October of 2009 I broke my leg while competing at a 40 and over bull riding which required surgery. I do not believe that it was Gods plan for me to ride a bull at the age of 46 but this book is an example that the Lord will use every situation we are in for good if we will allow Him to use us. During my time of recovery I started writing poems and short stories about my rodeo days then it turned to cowboy poetry. In the beginning it was a way to pass the time and deal with my situation. As I continued to write I began to relate my poems to scripture and it was then that the Lord truly began to use them to reach others. After sharing a few with my church I discovered that they could be a useful tool in cowboy churches and ministries or those in the western culture. This book of poems and proverbs is just another example of the Lords Grace and Mercy in my life; it is because of His love that I am On The Trail

Download or read book My Mountain written by Cami Marie Taylor and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2016-12-27 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritually, mountaintops can represent grandeur, majesty, protection, and a safe place from all storms. But what describes the climb up the mountains? Difficulties, adversities, setbacks, injustices, betrayals, deceit, conspiracies just to name a few. There are hidden complexities for the mountain climber: hidden vice-covered ravines, slippery slopes, crags and crevices, venomous snakes, unstable weather, little to no vegetation to feed upon. Sometimes sprained ankles, broken bones, and being just too tired to go on! Compare that to what can happen when mustard-seed faith collides with adversity time and time again. Thats the story of the journey of Cami Marie Taylor whose blind faith eventually led her to the very footstool of God at the top of her own, personal mountain. You will be wasting your time reading this book if youve never had to face a way out of impossible situations with seemingly no answers. But then again, you just might be interested in how Cami was led and strengthened to climb her mountains of adversity! Inspirational reading intermixed with practical Christianity best describes Cami Marie Taylors journey during the 1970s--1980s while it also records the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit who accompanied her on her unchartered mountain-climbing expedition!
