Book The Life of a 1966 Corvette

Download or read book The Life of a 1966 Corvette written by Paul M. Fritz and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-05-09 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul M. Fritz's love affair with Corvettes began in 1963, when the local owner of a 1963 Saddle Tan fuel-injected coupe would park his Corvette next to the bank in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, on Friday nights for all. A few years later, though, he bought a 1966 Sunfire Yellow, 427 cubic inch, 425 horsepower Corvette Coupe, which he's owned for forty-seven years. For much of that time, however, the car was in storage, as he enlisted in the Navy in October 1969 and spent a lot of time overseas. It came out of storage in November 1998, and a full-body, off-the-frame restoration began at The Vette Shop in Warminster, Pennsylvania. The restoration followed the process of the National Corvette Restorers Society, and the Corvette went on to win the society's Top Flight Award, The Zora Arkus-Duntov Mark of Excellence Award. Relive your youth, renew your commitment to living in the moment, and celebrate the special bond between a man and his beloved car with The Life of a 1966 Corvette.

Book excerpt: Jan Berry, leader of the music duo Jan & Dean from the late 1950s to mid-1960s, was an intense character who experienced more in his first 25 years than many do in a lifetime. As an architect of the West Coast sound, he was one of rock 'n' roll's original rebels--brilliant, charismatic, reckless, and flawed. As a songwriter, music arranger, and record producer for Nevin-Kirshner Associates and Screen Gems-Columbia Music, Berry was one of the pioneering self-produced artists of his era in Hollywood. He lived a dual life, reaching the top of the charts with Jan & Dean while transitioning from college student to medical student, until an automobile accident in 1966 changed his trajectory forever. Suffering from brain damage and partial paralysis, Jan spent the rest of his life trying to come back from Dead Man's Curve. His story is told here in-depth for the first time, based on extensive primary source documentation and supplemented by the stories and memories of Jan's family members, friends, music industry colleagues, and contemporaries. From the birth of rock to the bitter end, Berry's life story is thrilling, humorous, unsettling, and disturbing, yet ultimately uplifting.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An entire volume dedicated to detailing and preserving the iconic muscle car dealerships of the 1960s and early 1970s, many whose doors are now closed. Text is supported with more than 350 historic photos and illustrations. Muscle car historian Duncan Brown revisits this glorious automotive era when Nickey 427 Camaros and supercharged Dodge Demons by Grand Spaulding Dodge terrorized the streets. Drag sponsored cars from Reynolds Buick, Yeakel Chrysler-Plymouth, and Mel Burns Ford informed buyers that if you came to their dealership, you too could have a screaming fast muscle car just like the ones you saw at the dragstrip. It was these dealerships that created the lasting muscle car legacy through their innovative advertising and over-the-top performance. The majority of these dealerships floundered, unable to re-attract the customers they had prior to the muscle car. Thankfully, a volume has been dedicated to preserving the history of those less fortunate and revisiting the past success of these Lost Muscle Car Dealerships.

Book Quarter Mile Corvettes 1953 1975

Download or read book Quarter Mile Corvettes 1953 1975 written by Steve Holmes and published by CarTech Inc. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Re-live Corvette’s early years at the drag strip! Famously known as “America’s sports car,” the Chevrolet Corvette came to market in 1953. That same year, the newly established National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) hosted its first event. The Corvette was never intended for quarter-mile drag racing, and it appeared to be completely at odds with the sport. Early equipment included an underpowered Blue Flame 6-cylinder motor and automatic transmission. But somehow, the two have become forever entwined. The Corvette brought an element of class and style to drag racing. On the showroom and on the street, it has always been unique. It is truly American. Likewise, the uniqueness that sets it apart from everything else also meant that it had no natural competition on the drag strip. However, that fact didn’t dampen enthusiasm. Indeed, the NHRA and other governing bodies introduced Sports Car divisions in the late 1950s, catering to both stock and modified vehicles. Naturally, these classes were packed with Corvettes. Racing historian Steve Holmes breaks new ground by unearthing the complete early history of the Corvette in drag racing. Quarter-Mile Corvettes focuses on the period from 1955 to 1975, which spans the first 20 years of Corvette V-8 production. Fittingly, this was also the era considered by many to be the greatest in drag racing’s history, and Corvettes encapsulated the vibrancy of the period in a way that will never be repeated. Certainly, Chevrolet never intended for the Corvette to become a quarter-mile terror, but today, its nameplate has become one of the longest running in all of drag racing.
